1. యాకోబు తన తండ్రి పరదేశ వాసిగ ఉండిన కనాను దేశములో నివసించెను.

1. So Jacob dwelt in the land of the sojournings of his father, in the land of Canaan.

2. యాకోబు వంశావళి యిది. యోసేపు పదునేడేండ్లవాడై తన సహోదరులతో కూడ మందను మేపుచుండెను. అతడు చిన్నవాడై తన తండ్రి భార్యలైన బిల్హా కుమారుల యొద్దను జిల్పా కుమారుల యొద్దను ఉండెను. అప్పుడు యోసేపు వారి చెడుతనమును గూర్చిన సమాచారము వారి తండ్రియొద్దకు తెచ్చుచుండు వాడు.

2. These, are the generations of Jacob Joseph, when seventeen years old, was shepherding with his brethren among the flocks, and, he, being a youth, was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah wives of his father, so then Joseph brought in the talk about them something bad, unto their father.

3. మరియు యోసేపు ఇశ్రాయేలు వృద్ధాప్యమందు పుట్టిన కుమారుడు గనుక తన కుమారులందరికంటె ఎక్కువగా అతని ప్రేమించి అతని కొరకు విచిత్రమైన నిలువు టంగీ కుట్టించెను.

3. Now, Israel, loved Joseph more than any of his sons, because he was to him, the son of his old age, and he had made him, a long tunic.

4. So his brethren saw that their father loved him, more than any of his brethren, and they hated him, and could not bid him prosper,

5. యోసేపు ఒక కల కని తన సహోదరులతో అది తెలియచెప్పగా వారు అతనిమీద మరి పగపట్టిరి.

5. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and told it to his brethren, and they went on yet more to hate him.

6. And he said unto them, Hear ye I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

7. అదేమనగా మనము చేనిలో పనలు కట్టుచుంటిమి; నా పన లేచి నిలుచుండగా మీ పనలు నా పనను చుట్టుకొని నా పనకు సాష్టాంగపడెనని చెప్పెను.

7. Lo! then, we, were binding sheaves in the midst of the field, when lo my sheaf rose up, yea and took its stand, and lo! round about came your sheaves, and bowed themselves down to my sheaf.

8. అందుకతని సహోదరులు నీవు నిశ్చయముగా మమ్ము నేలెదవా? మా మీద నీవు అధికారి వగుదువా అని అతనితో చెప్పి, అతని కలలనుబట్టియు అతని మాటలనుబట్టియు అతనిమీద మరింత పగపట్టిరి.

8. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou, reign, over us, shalt thou, have dominion over us? So they went on yet more to hate him, because of his dreams and because of his words.

9. అతడింకొక కల కని తన సహోదరులకు తెలియచేసి ఇదిగో నేను మరియొక కలకంటిని; అందులో సూర్య చంద్రులును పదకొండు నక్షత్రములును నాకు సాష్టాంగ పడెనని చెప్పెను.

9. Then dreamed he, yet another, dream, and related it to his brethren, and said: Lo! I have dreamed a dream, yet again, Lo! then, the sun and the moon, and eleven stars, were bowing themselves down to me.

10. అతడు తన తండ్రితోను తన సహోదరుల తోను అది తెలియచెప్పినప్పుడు అతని తండ్రి అతనితో నీవు కనిన యీ కల యేమిటి? నేను నీ తల్లియు నీ సహోదరులును నిశ్చయముగా వచ్చి నీకు సాష్టాంగ పడుదుమా అని అతని గద్దించెను.

10. So he related it unto his father, and unto his brethren, and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream which thou hast dreamed? Shall we, indeed come in, I, and thy mother and thy brethren, to bow our-selves down to thee to the earth?

11. అతని సహోదరులు అతనియందు అసూయపడిరి. అయితే అతని తండ్రి ఆ మాట జ్ఞాపకముంచుకొనెను.

11. Then were his brethren jealous of him, but his father, marked the word.

12. అతని సహోదరులు షెకెములో తమ తండ్రి మందను మేపుటకు వెళ్లిరి.

12. Now his brethren went their way, to feed their father's flock in Shechem.

13. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలు యోసేపును చూచి - నీ సహోదరులు షెకెములో మంద మేపుచున్నారు. నిన్ను వారియొద్దకు పంపెదను రమ్మన్నప్పుడు అతడు - మంచిదని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

13. So Israel said unto Joseph Are not, thy brethren, feeding the flock in Shechem? Come on! and let me send thee unto them. And he said to him Behold me!

14. అప్పుడతడు నీవు వెళ్ళి నీ సహోదరుల క్షేమమును మంద క్షేమమును తెలిసికొని నాకు వర్తమానము తెమ్మని అతినితో చెప్పి హెబ్రోను లోయలోనుండి అతని పంపెను. అతడు షెకెమునకు వచ్చెను.

14. So he said to him Go, I pray thee, look after the welfare of thy brethren, and the welfare of the flock, and bring me back word. And he sent him from the vale of Hebron, and he came in towards Shechem.

15. అతడు పొలములో ఇటు అటు తిరుగుచుండగా ఒక మనుష్యుడు అతనిని చూచి - నీవేమి వెదకుచున్నావని అతని నడిగెను.

15. And a man found him, and to! he was wandering about in the field, so the man asked him saying What seekest thou?

16. అందుకతడు నేను నా సహోదరులను వెదుకుచున్నాను, వారు ఎక్కడ మందను మేపుచున్నారో అది దయచేసి నాకు తెలుపుమని అడిగెను.

16. And he said, My brethren, am, I, seeking, do tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding their flock.

17. అందుకు ఆ మనుష్యుడు - ఇక్కడనుండి వారు సాగి వెళ్లిరి. వారు దోతానుకు వెళ్లుదము రండని చెప్పుకొనుట వింటినని చెప్పెను. అప్పుడు యోసేపు తన సహోదరుల కోసము వెళ్లి దోతానులో వారిని కనుగొనెను.

17. And the man said, They have broken up from hence, for I heard them saying Let us go our way towards Dothan. So Joseph went after his brethren, and found them, in Dothan.

18. అతడు దగ్గరకు రాకమునుపు వారు దూరము నుండి అతని చూచి అతని చంపుటకు దురాలోచన చేసిరి.

18. And they saw him afar off, and, ere yet he drew near unto them, they conspired against him, to put him to death.

19. వారు - ఇదిగో ఈ కలలు కనువాడు వచ్చుచున్నాడు;

19. And they said each man unto his brother, Lo! that master of dreams yonder, coming in!

20. వీని చంపి యిక్కడనున్న ఒక గుంటలో పారవేసి, దుష్టమృగము వీని తినివేసెనని చెప్పుదము, అప్పుడు వీని కలలేమగునో చూతము రండని ఒకనితో ఒకడు మాటలాడుకొనిరి.

20. Now, therefore, come! let us slay him and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say A cruel beast, hath devoured him, And let us see what will become of his dreams.

21. రూబేను ఆ మాట వినిమనము వానిని చంపరాదని చెప్పి వారి చేతులలో పడకుండ అతని విడిపించెను.

21. And Reuben heard it, and rescued him out of their hand, and said Let us not smite him, so as to take his life!

22. ఎట్లనగా రూబేను అతని తండ్రికి అతని నప్పగించుటకై వారి చేతులలో పడకుండ అతని విడిపింప దలచిరక్తము చిందింపకుడి; అతనికి హాని ఏమియు చేయక అడవిలోనున్న యీ గుంటలో అతని పడద్రోయుడని వారితో చెప్పెను.

22. And Reuben said unto them Do not shed blood! Cast him into this pit, which is in the wilderness, but put not forth, a hand, against him! that he might rescue him out of their hand, to restore him unto his father.

23. యోసేపు తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు వచ్చినప్పుడు వారు యోసేపు అంగీని అతడు తొడుగుకొని యుండిన ఆ విచిత్రమైన నిలువుటంగీని తీసివేసి,

23. So it came to pass, when Joseph had come in unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph of his tunic, the long tunic which was upon him,

24. అతని పట్టుకొని ఆ గుంటలో పడద్రోసిరి. ఆ గుంట వట్టిది అందులో నీళ్లులేవు.

24. and took him, and cast him into the pit, but the pit, was empty, there was in it no water.

25. వారు భోజనముచేయ కూర్చుండి, కన్నులెత్తి చూడగా ఐగుప్తునకు తీసికొని పోవుటకు గుగ్గిలము మస్తకియు బోళమును మోయుచున్న ఒంటెలతో ఇష్మాయేలీయులైన మార్గస్థులు గిలాదునుండి వచ్చుచుండిరి.

25. And when they had sat down to eat bread, they lifted up their eyes and looked, and lo! a caravan of Ishmaelites, coming in from Gilead, and, their camels, were bearing tragacanth gum, and balsam and cistus-gum, they were going their way, to take them down to Egypt.

26. అప్పుడు యూదా మనము మన సహోదరుని చంపి వాని మరణమును దాచి పెట్టినందువలన ఏమి ప్రయోజనము?

26. So Judah said unto his brethren, What profit that we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?

27. ఈ ఇష్మాయేలీయులకు వానిని అమ్మి వేయుదము రండి; వాడు మన సహోదరుడు మన రక్త సంబంధిగదా? వానికి హాని యేమియు చేయరాదని తన సహోదరులతో చెప్పెను. అందుకతని సహోదరులు సమ్మతించిరి.

27. Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites; but let not, out own hand, be upon him, for our own brother, our own flesh, is he And his brethren hearkened.

28. మిద్యానీయులైన వర్తకులు ఆ మీదుగా వెళ్లుచుండగా, వారు ఆ గుంటలోనుండి యోసేపును పైకి తీసి ఆ ఇష్మాయేలీయులకు ఇరువది తులముల వెండికి అతనిని అమ్మివేసిరి. వారు యోసేపును ఐగుప్తునకు తీసికొనిపోయిరి.

28. And there passed by certain Midianites travelling merchants, so they drew forth and uplifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites, for twenty pieces of silver, and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

29. రూబేను ఆ గుంటకు తిరిగివచ్చినప్పుడు యోసేపు గుంటలో లేకపోగా అతడు తన బట్టలు చింపుకొని

29. And Reuben returned unto the pit, and lo Joseph was not in the pit, so he rent his clothes;

30. తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు తిరిగివెళ్లి - చిన్నవాడు లేడే; అయ్యో నేనెక్కడికి పోదుననగా

30. and returned unto his brethren, and said, The, lad, is not! And, I, oh where can I, go?

31. వారు యోసేపు అంగీని తీసికొని, ఒక మేకపిల్లను చంపి, దాని రక్తములో ఆ అంగీముంచి

31. And they took Joseph's tunic, and slaughtered a buck of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood;

32. ఆ విచిత్రమైన నిలువుటంగీని పంపగా వారు తండ్రియొద్దకు దానిని తెచ్చి - ఇది మాకు దొరికెను, ఇది నీ కుమారుని అంగీ అవునో కాదో గురుతుపట్టుమని చెప్పిరి

32. and sent the long tunic and brought it in unto their father, and said This, have we found! Examine, we pray thee, whether it is the tunic of thy son, or not!

33. అతడు దానిని గురుతుపట్టి ఈ అంగీ నా కుమారునిదే; దుష్ట మృగము వానిని తినివేసెను; యోసేపు నిశ్చయముగా చీల్చబడెననెను.

33. So he examined it, and said The tunic of my son! A cruel beast hath devoured him, torn in pieces torn in pieces, is Joseph!

34. యాకోబు తన బట్టలు చింపుకొని తన నడుమున గోనెపట్ట కట్టుకొని అనేక దినములు తన కుమారుని నిమిత్తము అంగలార్చుచుండగా

34. And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned over his son many days.

35. అతని కుమారులందరును అతని కుమార్తెలందరును అతనిని ఓదార్చుటకు యత్నము చేసిరి; అయితే అతడు ఓదార్పు పొందనొల్లకనేను అంగలార్చుచు మృతుల లోకమునకు నా కుమారుని యొద్దకు వెళ్లెదనని చెప్పి అతని తండ్రి అతని కోసము ఏడ్చెను.

35. And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to console him but he refused to be consoled, and said Surely I will go down unto my son mourning to hades! And his father wept for him.

36. మిద్యానీయులు ఐగుప్తునకు అతని తీసికొనిపోయి, ఫరోయొక్క ఉద్యోగస్థుడును రాజ సంరక్షక సేనాధిపతియునైన పోతీఫరునకు అతనిని అమ్మివేసిరి.

36. Now, the Midianites, sold him into Egypt, to Potiphar courtier of Pharaoh, chief of the royal executioners.
