1. మోషే కొండదిగకుండ తడవుచేయుట ప్రజలు చూచినప్పుడు ఆ ప్రజలు అహరోనునొద్దకు కూడి వచ్చి లెమ్ము, మా ముందర నడుచుటకు ఒక దేవతను మాకొరకు చేయుము. ఐగుప్తులోనుండి మమ్మును రప్పించిన ఆ మోషే అనువాడు ఏమాయెనో మాకు తెలియదని అతనితో చెప్పిరి.

1. When the people saw that Moses had not come down from the mountain but was staying there a long time, they gathered around Aaron and said to him, 'We do not know what has happened to this man Moses, who led us out of Egypt; so make us a god to lead us.'

2. అందుకు అహరోను మీ భార్యలకు మీ కుమారులకు మీ కుమార్తెలకు చెవుల నున్న బంగారు పోగులను తీసి నాయొద్దకు తెండని వారితో చెప్పగా

2. Aaron said to them, 'Take off the gold earrings which your wives, your sons, and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.'

3. ప్రజలందరు తమ చెవులనున్న బంగారు పోగులను తీసి అహరోను నొద్దకు తెచ్చిరి.

3. So all the people took off their gold earrings and brought them to Aaron.

4. He took the earrings, melted them, poured the gold into a mold, and made a gold bull-calf. The people said, 'Israel, this is our god, who led us out of Egypt!'

5. Then Aaron built an altar in front of the gold bull-calf and announced, 'Tomorrow there will be a festival to honor the LORD.'

6. Early the next morning they brought some animals to burn as sacrifices and others to eat as fellowship offerings. The people sat down to a feast, which turned into an orgy of drinking and sex.

7. కాగా యెహోవా మోషేతో ఇట్లనెను నీవు దిగి వెళ్లుము; ఐగుప్తుదేశమునుండి నీవు రప్పించిన నీ ప్రజలు చెడిపోయిరి.

7. The LORD said to Moses, 'Hurry and go back down, because your people, whom you led out of Egypt, have sinned and rejected me.

8. నేను వారికి నియమించిన త్రోవనుండి త్వరగా తొలగిపోయి తమకొరకు పోతపోసిన దూడను చేసికొని దానికి సాగిలపడి బలినర్పించి ఓయి ఇశ్రాయేలూ, ఐగుప్తుదేశమునుండి నిన్ను రప్పించిన నీ దేవుడు ఇదే అని చెప్పుకొనిరనెను.

8. They have already left the way that I commanded them to follow; they have made a bull-calf out of melted gold and have worshiped it and offered sacrifices to it. They are saying that this is their god, who led them out of Egypt.

9. I know how stubborn these people are.

10. Now, don't try to stop me. I am angry with them, and I am going to destroy them. Then I will make you and your descendants into a great nation.'

11. మోషే తన దేవుడైన యెహోవాను బ్రతిమాలుకొని యెహోవా, నీవు మహాశక్తివలన బాహుబలము వలన ఐగుప్తు దేశములోనుండి రప్పించిన నీ ప్రజలమీద నీ కోపము మండనేల?

11. But Moses pleaded with the LORD his God and said, ' LORD, why should you be so angry with your people, whom you rescued from Egypt with great might and power?

12. ఆయన కొండలలో వారిని చంపునట్లును భూమిమీదనుండి వారిని నశింపచేయునట్లును కీడుకొరకే వారిని తీసికొని పోయెనని ఐగుప్తీయులు ఏల చెప్పుకొనవలెను? నీ కోపాగ్నినుండి మళ్లుకొని నీవు

12. Why should the Egyptians be able to say that you led your people out of Egypt, planning to kill them in the mountains and destroy them completely? Stop being angry; change your mind and do not bring this disaster on your people.

13. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Remember the solemn promise you made to them to give them as many descendants as there are stars in the sky and to give their descendants all that land you promised would be their possession forever.'

14. అంతట యెహోవా తన ప్రజలకు చేసెదనని చెప్పిన కీడునుగూర్చి సంతాపపడెను.

14. So the LORD changed his mind and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

15. మోషే శాసనములుగల రెండు పలకలను చేత పట్టుకొని కొండ దిగి వచ్చెను. ఆ పలకలు ఇరు ప్రక్కలను వ్రాయబడినవి; అవి ఈ ప్రక్కను ఆ ప్రక్కను వ్రాయ బడియుండెను.

15. Moses went back down the mountain, carrying the two stone tablets with the commandments written on both sides.

16. ఆ పలకలు దేవుడు చేసినవి; ఆ పలకల మీద చెక్కబడిన వ్రాత దేవుని చేవ్రాత.

16. God himself had made the tablets and had engraved the commandments on them.

17. ఆ ప్రజలు పెద్దకేకలు వేయుచుండగా యెహోషువ ఆ ధ్వని వినిపాళెములో యుద్ధధ్వని అని మోషేతో అనగా

17. Joshua heard the people shouting and said to Moses, 'I hear the sound of battle in the camp.'

18. అతడు అది జయధ్వనికాదు, అపజయ ధ్వనికాదు, సంగీత ధ్వని నాకు వినబడుచున్నదనెను.

18. Moses said, 'That doesn't sound like a shout of victory or a cry of defeat; it's the sound of singing.'

19. అతడు పాళెమునకు సమీపింపగా, ఆ దూడను, వారు నాట్యమాడుటను చూచెను. అందుకు మోషే కోపము మండెను; అతడు కొండదిగువను తన చేతులలోనుండి ఆ పలకలను పడవేసి వాటిని పగులగొట్టెను.

19. When Moses came close enough to the camp to see the bull-calf and to see the people dancing, he became furious. There at the foot of the mountain, he threw down the tablets he was carrying and broke them.

20. He took the bull-calf which they had made, melted it, ground it into fine powder, and mixed it with water. Then he made the people of Israel drink it.

21. He said to Aaron, 'What did these people do to you, that you have made them commit such a terrible sin?'

22. అహరోను నా యేలినవాడా, నీ కోపము మండనియ్యకుము. ఈ ప్రజలు దుర్మార్గులను మాట నీ వెరుగుదువు.

22. Aaron answered, 'Don't be angry with me; you know how determined these people are to do evil.

23. వారు మాకు ముందు నడుచుటకు ఒక దేవతను చేయుము; ఐగుప్తులోనుండి మమ్మును రప్పించినవాడగు ఈ మోషే యేమాయెనో మాకు తెలియదనిరి.

23. They said to me, 'We don't know what has happened to this man Moses, who brought us out of Egypt; so make us a god to lead us.'

24. అందుకు నేను ఎవరియొద్ద బంగారము ఉన్నదో వారు దానిని ఊడదీసి తెండని చెప్పితిని. నేను దాని అగ్నిలో వేయగా ఈ దూడ యాయెననెను.

24. I asked them to bring me their gold ornaments, and those who had any took them off and gave them to me. I threw the ornaments into the fire and out came this bull-calf!'

25. ప్రజలు విచ్చల విడిగా తిరుగుట మోషే చూచెను. వారి విరోధులలో వారికి ఎగతాళి కలుగునట్లు అహరోను విచ్చలవిడిగా తిరుగుటకు వారిని విడిచి పెట్టి యుండెను.

25. Moses saw that Aaron had let the people get out of control and make fools of themselves in front of their enemies.

26. అందుకు మోషే పాళెముయొక్క ద్వారమున నిలిచి యెహోవా పక్షమున నున్న వారందరు నాయొద్దకు రండి అనగా లేవీయులందరును అతని యొద్దకు కూడి వచ్చిరి.

26. So he stood at the gate of the camp and shouted, 'Everyone who is on the LORD's side come over here!' So all the Levites gathered around him,

27. అతడు వారిని చూచి మీలో ప్రతివాడును తన కత్తిని తన నడుమున కట్టుకొని పాళెములో ద్వారము నుండి ద్వారమునకు వెళ్లుచు, ప్రతివాడు తన సహోదరుని ప్రతివాడు తన చెలికానిని ప్రతివాడు తన పొరుగువానిని చంపవలెనని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులదేవుడైన యెహోవా సెలవిచ్చుచున్నా డనెను.

27. and he said to them, 'The LORD God of Israel commands every one of you to put on your sword and go through the camp from this gate to the other and kill your brothers, your friends, and your neighbors.'

28. లేవీయులు మోషే మాటచొప్పున చేయగా, ఆ దినమున ప్రజలలో ఇంచుమించు మూడువేలమంది కూలిరి.

28. The Levites obeyed, and killed about three thousand men that day.

29. ఏలయనగా మోషే వారిని చూచి నేడు యెహోవా మిమ్మును ఆశీర్వదించునట్లు మీలో ప్రతివాడు తన కుమారునిమీద పడియేగాని తన సహోదరునిమీద పడియేగాని యెహోవాకు మిమ్మును మీరే ప్రతిష్ఠ చేసికొనుడనెను.

29. Moses said to the Levites, 'Today you have consecrated yourselves as priests in the service of the LORD by killing your sons and brothers, so the LORD has given you his blessing.'

30. మరునాడు మోషే ప్రజలతో మీరు గొప్ప పాపము చేసితిరి గనుక యెహోవాయొద్దకు కొండ యెక్కి వెళ్లెదను; ఒకవేళ మీ పాపమునకు ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము చేయగలనేమో అనెను.

30. The next day Moses said to the people, 'You have committed a terrible sin. But now I will again go up the mountain to the LORD; perhaps I can obtain forgiveness for your sin.'

31. అప్పుడు మోషే యెహోవా యొద్దకు తిరిగి వెళ్లి అయ్యో యీ ప్రజలు గొప్ప పాపము చేసిరి; వారు బంగారు దేవతను తమకొరకు చేసికొనిరి.

31. Moses then returned to the LORD and said, 'These people have committed a terrible sin. They have made a god out of gold and worshiped it.

32. అయ్యో నీవు వారి పాపమును ఒకవేళ పరిహరించితివా, లేనియెడల నీవు వ్రాసిన నీ గ్రంథములో నుండి నా పేరు తుడిచివేయుమని బ్రతిమాలుకొనుచున్నాననెను.

32. Please forgive their sin; but if you won't, then remove my name from the book in which you have written the names of your people.'

33. అందుకు యెహోవా యెవడు నా యెదుట పాపము చేసెనో వాని నా గ్రంథములోనుండి తుడిచి వేయుదును.

33. The LORD answered, 'It is those who have sinned against me whose names I will remove from my book.

34. కాబట్టి నీవు వెళ్లి నేను నీతో చెప్పిన చోటికి ప్రజలను నడిపించుము. ఇదిగో నా దూత నీకు ముందుగా వెళ్లును. నేను వచ్చు దినమున వారి పాపమును వారి మీదికి రప్పించెదనని మోషేతో చెప్పెను.

34. Now go, lead the people to the place I told you about. Remember that my angel will guide you, but the time is coming when I will punish these people for their sin.'

35. అహరోను కల్పించిన దూడను ప్రజలు చేయించినందున యెహోవా వారిని బాధపెట్టెను.

35. So the LORD sent a disease on the people, because they had caused Aaron to make the gold bull-calf.
