1. పౌలు దెర్బేకును లుస్త్రకును వచ్చెను. అక్కడ తిమోతి అను ఒక శిష్యుడుండెను. అతడు విశ్వసించిన యొక యూదురాలి కుమారుడు, అతని తండ్రి గ్రీసు దేశస్థుడు.

1. Paul came first to Derbe, then Lystra. He found a disciple there by the name of Timothy, son of a devout Jewish mother and Greek father.

2. Friends in Lystra and Iconium all said what a fine young man he was.

3. Paul wanted to recruit him for their mission, but first took him aside and circumcised him so he wouldn't offend the Jews who lived in those parts. They all knew that his father was Greek.

4. As they traveled from town to town, they presented the simple guidelines the Jerusalem apostles and leaders had come up with.

5. గనుక సంఘములు విశ్వాసమందు స్థిరపడి, అనుదినము లెక్కకు విస్తరించుచుండెను.

5. That turned out to be most helpful. Day after day the congregations became stronger in faith and larger in size.

6. ఆసియలో వాక్యము చెప్పకూడదని పరిశుద్ధాత్మ వారి నాటంకపరచినందున, వారు ఫ్రుగియ గలతీయ ప్రదేశముల ద్వారా వెళ్లిరి. ముసియ దగ్గరకు వచ్చి బితూనియకు వెళ్లుటకు ప్రయత్నము చేసిరి గాని

6. They went to Phrygia, and then on through the region of Galatia. Their plan was to turn west into Asia province, but the Holy Spirit blocked that route.

7. So they went to Mysia and tried to go north to Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus wouldn't let them go there either.

8. Proceeding on through Mysia, they went down to the seaport Troas.

9. అప్పుడు మాసిదోనియ దేశస్థుడొకడు నిలిచినీవు మాసిదోనియకు వచ్చి మాకు సహాయము చేయుమని తనను వేడుకొనుచున్నట్టు రాత్రివేళ పౌలునకు దర్శనము కలిగెను.

9. That night Paul had a dream: A Macedonian stood on the far shore and called across the sea, 'Come over to Macedonia and help us!'

10. అతనికి ఆ దర్శనము కలిగినప్పుడు వారికి సువార్త ప్రకటించుటకు దేవుడు మమ్మును పిలిచియున్నాడని మేము నిశ్చయించుకొని వెంటనే మాసిదోనియకు బయలుదేరుటకు యత్నము చేసితివి

10. The dream gave Paul his map. We went to work at once getting things ready to cross over to Macedonia. All the pieces had come together. We knew now for sure that God had called us to preach the good news to the Europeans.

11. కాబట్టి మేము త్రోయను విడిచి ఓడ ఎక్కి తిన్నగా సమొత్రాకేకును, మరునాడు నెయపొలికిని, అక్కడ నుండి ఫిలిప్పీకిని వచ్చితివిు.

11. Putting out from the harbor at Troas, we made a straight run for Samothrace. The next day we tied up at New City

12. మాసిదోనియ దేశములో ఆ ప్రాంతమునకు అది ముఖ్యపట్టణమును రోమీయుల ప్రవాసస్థానమునై యున్నది. మేము కొన్నిదినములు ఆ పట్టణములో ఉంటిమి.

12. and walked from there to Philippi, the main city in that part of Macedonia and, even more importantly, a Roman colony. We lingered there several days.

13. విశ్రాంతి దినమున గవిని దాటి నదీతీరమున ప్రార్థన జరుగుననుకొని అక్కడికి వచ్చి కూర్చుండి, కూడివచ్చిన స్త్రీలతో మాటలాడు చుంటిమి.

13. On the Sabbath, we left the city and went down along the river where we had heard there was to be a prayer meeting. We took our place with the women who had gathered there and talked with them.

14. అప్పుడు లూదియయను దైవభక్తిగల యొక స్త్రీ వినుచుండెను. ఆమె ఊదారంగు పొడిని అమ్ము తుయతైర పట్టణస్థురాలు. ప్రభువు ఆమె హృదయము తెరచెను గనుక పౌలు చెప్పిన మాటలయందు లక్ష్యముంచెను.

14. One woman, Lydia, was from Thyatira and a dealer in expensive textiles, known to be a God-fearing woman. As she listened with intensity to what was being said, the Master gave her a trusting heart--and she believed!

15. ఆమెయు ఆమె యింటివారును బాప్తిస్మము పొందినప్పుడు, ఆమె - నేను ప్రభువునందు విశ్వాసము గలదాననని మీరు యెంచితే, నా యింటికి వచ్చియుండు డని వేడుకొని మమ్మును బలవంతము చేసెను.

15. After she was baptized, along with everyone in her household, she said in a surge of hospitality, 'If you're confident that I'm in this with you and believe in the Master truly, come home with me and be my guests.' We hesitated, but she wouldn't take no for an answer.

16. మేము ప్రార్థనాస్థలమునకు వెళ్లుచుండగా (పుతోను అను) దయ్యముపట్టినదై, సోదె చెప్పుటచేత తన యజమానులకు బహు లాభము సంపాదించుచున్న యొక చిన్నది మాకు ఎదురుగావచ్చెను.

16. One day, on our way to the place of prayer, a slave girl ran into us. She was a psychic and, with her fortunetelling, made a lot of money for the people who owned her.

17. ఆమె పౌలును మమ్మును వెంబడించి ఈ మనుష్యులు సర్వోన్నతుడైన దేవుని దాసులు; వీరు మీకు రక్షణ మార్గము ప్రచురించువారై యున్నారని కేకలువేసి చెప్పెను.

17. She started following Paul around, calling everyone's attention to us by yelling out, 'These men are working for the Most High God. They're laying out the road of salvation for you!'

18. ఆమె ఈలాగు అనేక దినములు చేయుచుండెను గనుక పౌలు వ్యాకులపడి దానివైపు తిరిగినీవు ఈమెను వదలిపొమ్మని యేసుక్రీస్తు నామమున ఆజ్ఞాపించుచున్నానని ఆ దయ్యముతో చెప్పెను; వెంటనే అది ఆమెను వదలిపోయెను.

18. She did this for a number of days until Paul, finally fed up with her, turned and commanded the spirit that possessed her, 'Out! In the name of Jesus Christ, get out of her!' And it was gone, just like that.

19. ఆమె యజమానులు తమ లాభసాధనము పోయెనని చూచి, పౌలును సీలను పట్టుకొని గ్రామపు చావడిలోనికి అధికారులయొద్దకు ఈడ్చుకొని పోయిరి.

19. When her owners saw that their lucrative little business was suddenly bankrupt, they went after Paul and Silas, roughed them up and dragged them into the market square. Then the police arrested them

20. అంతట న్యాయాధిపతులయొద్దకు వారిని తీసికొనివచ్చి ఈ మనుష్యులు యూదులై యుండి

20. and pulled them into a court with the accusation, 'These men are disturbing the peace--dangerous Jewish agitators

21. రోమీయులమైన మనము అంగీకరించుటకైనను చేయుటకైనను కూడని ఆచారములు ప్రచురించుచు, మన పట్టణము గలిబిలి చేయుచున్నారని చెప్పిరి.

21. subverting our Roman law and order.'

22. అప్పుడు జనసమూహము వారిమీదికి దొమ్మిగా వచ్చెను. న్యాయాధిపతులును వారి వస్త్రములు లాగివేసి వారిని బెత్తములతో కొట్టవలెనని ఆజ్ఞాపించిరి.

22. By this time the crowd had turned into a restless mob out for blood. The judges went along with the mob, had Paul and Silas's clothes ripped off and ordered a public beating.

23. వారు చాల దెబ్బలు కొట్టి వారిని చెరసాలలోవేసి భద్రముగా కనిపెట్టవలెనని చెరసాల నాయకుని కాజ్ఞాపించిరి.

23. After beating them black and blue, they threw them into jail, telling the jailkeeper to put them under heavy guard so there would be no chance of escape.

24. అతడు అట్టి ఆజ్ఞనుపొంది, వారిని లోపలి చెరసాలలోనికి త్రోసి, వారి కాళ్లకు బొండవేసి బిగించెను.

24. He did just that--threw them into the maximum security cell in the jail and clamped leg irons on them.

25. అయితే మధ్యరాత్రివేళ పౌలును సీలయు దేవునికి ప్రార్థించుచు కీర్తనలు పాడుచునుండిరి; ఖయిదీలు వినుచుండిరి.

25. Along about midnight, Paul and Silas were at prayer and singing a robust hymn to God. The other prisoners couldn't believe their ears.

26. అప్పుడు అకస్మాత్తుగా మహా భూకంపము కలిగెను, చెరసాల పునాదులు అదరెను, వెంటనే తలుపులన్నియు తెరచుకొనెను, అందరి బంధకములు ఊడెను.

26. Then, without warning, a huge earthquake! The jailhouse tottered, every door flew open, all the prisoners were loose.

27. అంతలో చెరసాల నాయకుడు మేలుకొని, చెరసాల తలుపులన్నియు తెరచియుండుట చూచి, ఖయిదీలు పారిపోయిరనుకొని, కత్తిదూసి, తన్ను తాను చంపుకొనబోయెను.

27. Startled from sleep, the jailer saw all the doors swinging loose on their hinges. Assuming that all the prisoners had escaped, he pulled out his sword and was about to do himself in, figuring he was as good as dead anyway,

28. అప్పుడు పౌలు నీవు ఏ హానియు చేసికొనవద్దు, మేమందరము ఇక్కడనే యున్నామని బిగ్గరగా చెప్పెను.

28. when Paul stopped him: 'Don't do that! We're all still here! Nobody's run away!'

29. అతడు దీపము తెమ్మని చెప్పి లోపలికి వచ్చి, వణకుచు పౌలుకును సీలకును సాగిలపడి

29. The jailer got a torch and ran inside. Badly shaken, he collapsed in front of Paul and Silas.

30. He led them out of the jail and asked, 'Sirs, what do I have to do to be saved, to really live?'

31. అందుకు వారు ప్రభువైన యేసు నందు విశ్వాసముంచుము, అప్పుడు నీవును నీ యింటివారును రక్షణ పొందుదురని చెప్పి

31. They said, 'Put your entire trust in the Master Jesus. Then you'll live as you were meant to live--and everyone in your house included!'

32. అతనికిని అతని ఇంటనున్న వారికందరికిని దేవుని వాక్యము బోధించిరి.

32. They went on to spell out in detail the story of the Master--the entire family got in on this part.

33. రాత్రి ఆ గడియలోనే అతడు వారిని తీసికొనివచ్చి, వారి గాయములు కడిగెను; వెంటనే అతడును అతని ఇంటివారందరును బాప్తిస్మము పొందిరి.

33. They never did get to bed that night. The jailer made them feel at home, dressed their wounds, and then--he couldn't wait till morning!--was baptized, he and everyone in his family.

34. మరియు అతడు వారిని ఇంటికి తోడుకొని వచ్చి భోజనముపెట్టి, దేవునియందు విశ్వాసముంచినవాడై తన ఇంటివారందరితోకూడ ఆనందించెను.

34. There in his home, he had food set out for a festive meal. It was a night to remember: He and his entire family had put their trust in God; everyone in the house was in on the celebration.

35. ఉదయమైనప్పుడు న్యాయాధిపతులు ఆ మనుష్యులను విడుదలచేయుమని చెప్పుటకు బంటులను పంపిరి.

35. At daybreak, the court judges sent officers with the instructions, 'Release these men.'

36. చెరసాల నాయకుడీ మాటలు పౌలునకు తెలిపిమిమ్మును విడుదలచేయుమని న్యాయాధిపతులు వర్తమానము పంపి యున్నారు గనుక మీరిప్పుడు బయలుదేరి సుఖముగా పొండని చెప్పెను.

36. The jailer gave Paul the message, 'The judges sent word that you're free to go on your way. Congratulations! Go in peace!'

37. అయితే పౌలు వారు న్యాయము విచారింపకయే రోమీయులమైన మమ్మును బహిరంగముగా కొట్టించి చెరసాలలోవేయించి, యిప్పుడు మమ్మును రహస్యముగా వెళ్లగొట్టుదురా? మేము ఒప్పము; వారే వచ్చి మమ్మును వెలుపలికి తీసికొని పోవలెనని చెప్పెను.

37. But Paul wouldn't budge. He told the officers, 'They beat us up in public and threw us in jail, Roman citizens in good standing! And now they want to get us out of the way on the sly without anyone knowing? Nothing doing! If they want us out of here, let them come themselves and lead us out in broad daylight.'

38. ఆ బంటులు ఈ మాటలు న్యాయాధిపతులకు తెలపగా, వీరు రోమీయులని వారు విని భయపడి వచ్చి,

38. When the officers reported this, the judges panicked. They had no idea that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens.

39. వారిని బతిమాలుకొని వెలుపలికి తీసికొనిపోయి పట్టణము విడిచిపొండని వారిని వేడుకొనిరి.

39. They hurried over and apologized, personally escorted them from the jail, and then asked them if they wouldn't please leave the city.

40. వారు చెరసాలలో నుండి వెలుపలికి వచ్చి లూదియ యింటికి వెళ్లిరి; అక్కడి సహోదరులను చూచి, ఆదరించి బయలుదేరి పోయిరి.

40. Walking out of the jail, Paul and Silas went straight to Lydia's house, saw their friends again, encouraged them in the faith, and only then went on their way.
