1. సౌలు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుముట మాని తిరిగిరాగా దావీదు ఏన్గెదీ అరణ్యమందున్నాడని అతనికి వర్తమానము వచ్చెను.

1. When Saul returned from following the Philistines, he was told, 'See, David is in the desert of Engedi.'

2. అప్పుడు సౌలు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరిలోనుండి మూడు వేలమందిని ఏర్పరచుకొని వచ్చి, కొండమేకలకు వాసములగు శిలాపర్వతములమీద దావీదును అతని జనులను వెదకుటకై బయలుదేరెను.

2. Then Saul took 3,000 chosen men from all Israel, and went to find David and his men in front of the Rocks of the Wild Goats.

3. మార్గముననున్న గొఱ్ఱె దొడ్లకు అతడు రాగా అక్కడ గుహ యొకటి కనబడెను. అందులో సౌలు శంకానివర్తికి పోగా దావీదును అతని జనులును ఆ గుహ లోపలిభాగములలో ఉండిరి గనుక

3. He came to the places where the sheep were kept on the way. There was a cave there, and Saul went in to get rid of his body waste. Now David and his men were sitting farther back in the cave.

4. దావీదు జనులు అదిగోనీ దృష్టికి ఏది మంచిదో అది నీవు అతనికి చేయునట్లు నీ శత్రువుని నీ చేతికి అప్పగింతు నని యెహోవా నీతో చెప్పిన దినము వచ్చెనని అతనితో అనగా; దావీదు లేచి వచ్చి సౌలునకు తెలియకుండ అతని పైవస్త్రపు చెంగును కోసెను.

4. David's men said to David, 'See, this is the day the Lord told you, 'See, I am about to give the one who hates you into your hand. You will do to him what you think is best.' ' Then David got up and cut off a piece of Saul's clothing in secret.

5. సౌలు పైవస్త్రమును తాను కోసెనని దావీదు మనస్సు నొచ్చి

5. After this, David felt guilty in his heart because he had cut off a piece of Saul's clothing.

6. ఇతడు యెహోవాచేత అభిషేకము నొందినవాడు గనుక యెహోవాచేత అభిషిక్తుడైన నా ప్రభువునకు నేను ఈ కార్యము చేయను, యెహోవానుబట్టి అతని నేను చంపను అని తన జనులతో చెప్పెను.

6. So he said to his men, 'May the Lord not let me put out my hand against my leader, for he is the Lord's chosen one.'

7. ఈ మాటలు చెప్పి దావీదు తన జనులను అడ్డగించి సౌలు మీదికి పోనియ్యక వారిని ఆపెను. తరువాత సౌలు లేచి గుహలోనుండి బయలువెళ్లి మార్గమున పోయెను.

7. David stopped his men with these words. He did not let them go against Saul. So Saul stood up and left the cave, and went on his way.

8. అప్పుడు దావీదు లేచి గుహలోనుండి బయలువెళ్లినా యేలినవాడా రాజా, అని సౌలు వెనుకనుండి కేక వేయగా సౌలు వెనుక చూచెను. దావీదు నేల సాష్టాంగ పడి నమస్కారము చేసి

8. After this David got up and went out of the cave and called to Saul, saying, 'My lord the king!' When Saul looked behind him, David put his face to the ground, showing much respect.

9. సౌలుతో ఇట్లనెనుదావీదు నీకు కీడుచేయనుద్దే శించుచున్నాడని జనులు చెప్పిన మాటలు నీవెందుకు విను చున్నావు?

9. David said to Saul, 'Why do you listen to the words of men who say, 'David wants to hurt you'?

10. ఆలోచించుము; ఈ దినమున యెహోవా నిన్ను ఏలాగు గుహలో నాచేతికి అప్పగించెనో అది నీ కండ్లార చూచితివే; కొందరు నిన్ను చంపుమని నాతో చెప్పినను నేను నీయందు కనికరించిఇతడు యెహోవాచేత అభిషేకము నొందినవాడు గనుక నా యేలినవాని చంపనని నేను చెప్పితిని.

10. See, your eyes have seen how the Lord gave you to me today in the cave. Some told me to kill you, but I had pity on you. I said, 'I will not put out my hand against my leader, for he is the Lord's chosen one.'

11. నా తండ్రీ చూడుము, ఇదిగో, చూడుము. నిన్ను చంపక నీ వస్త్రపుచెంగు మాత్రమే కోసితిని గనుక నావలన నీకు కీడు ఎంతమాత్రుును రాదనియు, నాలో తప్పిదము ఎంతమాత్రమును లేదనియు, నీవు తెలిసికొనవచ్చును. నీ విషయమై నేను ఏపాపమును చేయనివాడనై యుండగా నీవు నా ప్రాణము తీయవలెనని నన్ను తరుముచున్నావు.

11. Now, my father, see the piece of your clothing in my hand. I cut off the piece of your clothing but did not kill you. So know and understand that I have no desire to do wrong to you. I have not sinned against you, yet you come wanting to kill me.

12. నీకును నాకును మధ్య యెహోవా న్యాయము తీర్చును. యెహోవా నా విషయమై పగతీర్చునుగాని నేను నిన్ను చంపను.

12. May the Lord judge between you and me. May He punish you for your action against me. But my hand will not be against you.

13. పూర్వికులు సామ్యము చెప్పినట్టు దుష్టుల చేతనే దౌష్ట్యము పుట్టునుగాని నేను నిన్ను చంపను.

13. As the men of long ago said in their wisdom, 'Out of the sinful comes sin,' but my hand will not be against you.

14. ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల రాజు ఎవని పట్టుకొన బయలుదేరి వచ్చి యున్నాడు? ఏపాటివానిని తరుముచున్నాడు? చచ్చిన కుక్కనుగదా? మిన్నల్లిని గదా?

14. After whom has the king come out? After whom are you running? After a dead dog? After a little bug?

15. యెహోవా నీకును నాకును మధ్య న్యాయాధిపతియై తీర్పు తీర్చునుగాక; ఆయనే సంగతి విచారించి నా పక్షమున వ్యాజ్యెమాడి నీ వశము కాకుండ నన్ను నిర్దోషినిగా తీర్చునుగాక.

15. May the Lord be the One to judge between you and me. May He see and help me, and save me from you.'

16. దావీదు ఈ మాటలు సౌలుతో మాటలాడి చాలింపగా సౌలుదావీదా నాయనా, ఈ పలుకు నీదేనా అని బిగ్గరగా ఏడ్చి

16. When David had finished speaking to Saul, Saul said, 'Is this your voice, my son David?' Then Saul gave a loud cry.

17. దావీదుతో ఇట్లనెను - యెహోవా నన్ను నీచేతి కప్పగింపగా నన్ను చంపక విడిచినందుకు

17. He said to David, 'You are more right and good than I. For you have brought good to me, while I have done wrong to you.

18. ఈ దినమున నీవు నా అపకారమునకు ఉపకారముచేసిన వాడవై, నా యెడల నీకున్న ఉపకారబుద్ధిని వెల్లడిచేసితివి గనుక నీవు నాకంటె నీతిపరుడవు.

18. You have said today that you have done good to me. The Lord gave me to you and you did not kill me.

19. ఒకనికి తన శత్రువు దొరికినయెడల మేలుచేసి పంపివేయునా? ఈ దినమున నీవు నాకు చేసినదానినిబట్టి యెహోవా ప్రతిగా నీకు మేలు చేయునుగాక.

19. If a man finds the one who hates him, will he let him go away safe? May the Lord bring good to you for what you have done for me this day.

20. నిశ్చయముగా నీవు రాజ వగుదువనియు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల రాజ్యము నీకు స్థిరపరచ బడుననియు నాకు తెలియును.

20. Now I know that you will be king for sure. The nation of Israel will be made strong under your power.

21. కాబట్టి నా తరువాత నా సంతతివారిని నీవు నిర్మూలము చేయకుండునట్లును, నా తండ్రి ఇంటిలోనుండి నా పేరు నీవు కొట్టివేయ కుండునట్లును యెహోవా నామమున నాకు ప్రమాణము చేయుము. అంతట దావీదు సౌలునకు ప్రమాణము చేసెను

21. So promise to me by the Lord that you will not destroy my children after me. Promise that you will not destroy my name from my father's family.'

22. అప్పుడు సౌలు ఇంటికి తిరిగి వచ్చెను; అయితే దావీదును అతని జనులును తమ కొండస్థలములకు వెళ్లి పోయిరి.

22. David gave Saul his promise, and Saul went home. But David and his men went up to the safe place.
