1. దావీదు నోబులో యాజకుడైన అహీమెలెకు నొద్దకు వచ్చెను; అయితే అహీమెలెకు దావీదు రాకకు భయపడినీవు ఒంటరిగా వచ్చితివేమని అతని నడుగగా

1. Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech, the priest, and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David and said unto him, Why [art] thou alone, and no one with thee?

2. దావీదురాజు నాకు ఒక పని నిర్ణయించినేను నీ కాజ్ఞాపించి పంపినపని యేదో అదెవనితోనైనను చెప్పవద్దనెను; నేను నా పనివారిని ఒకానొక చోటికి వెళ్ల నిర్ణయించితిని;

2. And David said unto Ahimelech, the priest, The king has commanded me a business and has said unto me, Let no one know anything of this business about which I send thee and what I have commanded thee, and I have appointed [my] servants to a certain place.

3. నీయొద్ద ఏమి యున్నది? అయిదు రొట్టెలుగాని మరేమియుగాని యుండిన యెడల అది నా కిమ్మని యాజకుడైన అహీమెలెకుతో అనగా

3. Now, therefore, what is under thy hand? Give [me] five [loaves of] bread in my hand or what there is present.

4. యాజకుడుసాధారణమైన రొట్టె నాయొద్ద లేదు; పనివారు స్త్రీలకు ఎడముగా నున్నవారైతే ప్రతిష్ఠితమైన రొట్టెలు కలవని దావీదుతో అనెను.

4. And the priest answered David and said, [There is] no common bread under my hand; there is only sacred bread, which I will give thee if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

5. అందుకు దావీదునిజముగా నేను బయలుదేరి వచ్చినప్పటినుండి ఈ మూడు దినములు స్త్రీలు మాకు దూరముగానే యున్నారు; పని వారిబట్టలు పవిత్రములే; ఒకవేళ మేముచేయుకార్యము అపవిత్రమైనయెడల నేమి? రాజాజ్ఞనుబట్టి అది పవిత్రముగా ఎంచతగును అని యాజకునితో అనెను.

5. And David answered the priest and said unto him, Of a truth women [have been] kept from us since yesterday and the day before yesterday since I came out, and the vessels of the young men were holy although the way is profane; how much more that today it shall be sanctified with the vessels.

6. అంతట యెహోవా సన్నిధినుండి తీసివేయబడిన సన్నిధి రొట్టెలు తప్ప అక్కడ వేరు రొట్టెలు లేకపోగా, వెచ్చనిరొట్టెలు వేయు దినమందు తీసివేయబడిన ప్రతిష్ఠితమైన రొట్టెలను యాజకుడు అతని కిచ్చెను.

6. So the priest gave him the sacred bread, for there was no bread there but the showbread that had been taken from before the LORD to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

7. ఆ దినమున సౌలుయొక్క సేవకులలో ఒకడు అక్కడ యెహోవా సన్నిధిని ఉండెను; అతని పేరు దోయేగు, అతడు ఎదోమీయుడు. అతడు సౌలు పసుల కాపరులకు పెద్ద

7. Now a certain man of the servants of Saul [was] there that day, fulfilling [a vow] before the LORD, and his name [was] Doeg, an Edomite, the principal of the pastors of Saul.

8. రాజు పని వేగిరముగా జరుగవలెనని యెరిగి నా ఖడ్గమునైనను ఆయుధములనైనను నేను తేలేదు. ఇక్కడ నీయొద్ద ఖడ్గమైనను ఈటెయైనను ఉన్నదా అని దావీదు అహీమెలెకు నడుగగా

8. And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thy hand a spear or a sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me because the king's business required haste.

9. యాజ కుడుఏలా లోయలో నీవు చంపిన గొల్యాతు అను ఫిలిష్తీయుని ఖడ్గమున్నది, అదిగో బట్టతో చుట్టబడి ఏఫోదువెనుక ఉన్నది, అది తప్ప ఇక్కడ మరి ఏ ఖడ్గ మునులేదు, దాని తీసికొనుటకు నీకిష్టమైన యెడల తీసికొను మనగా దావీదుదానికి సమమైనదొకటియు లేదు, నా కిమ్మనెను.

9. And the priest replied, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou didst overcome in the valley of Elah, behold, it [is here] wrapped in a veil behind the ephod; if thou wilt take that, take [it], for [there is] none other except that here. And David said, [There is] none like that; give it to me.

10. అంతట దావీదు సౌలునకు భయపడినందున ఆ దినముననే లేచి పారిపోయి గాతురాజైన ఆకీషునొద్దకువచ్చెను.

10. And David arose and fled that day from the presence of Saul and went to Achish, the king of Gath.

11. ఆకీషు సేవకులుఈ దావీదు ఆ దేశపు రాజు కాడా? వారు నాట్యమాడుచు గానప్రతిగానములు చేయుచు సౌలు వేలకొలది హతముచేసెననియు, దావీదు పదివేలకొలది హతముచేసెననియు పాడిన పాటలు ఇతనిగూర్చినవే గదా అని అతనినిబట్టి రాజుతో మాటలాడగా

11. And the servants of Achish said unto him, [Is] this not David, the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands?

12. దావీదు ఈ మాటలు తన మనస్సులోనుంచుకొని గాతు రాజైన ఆకీషునకు బహు భయపడెను.

12. And David laid up these words in his heart and was sore afraid of Achish, the king of Gath.

13. కాబట్టి దావీదు వారి యెదుట తన చర్య మార్చుకొని వెఱ్ఱివానివలె నటించుచు, ద్వారపు తలుపుల మీద గీతలు గీయుచు, ఉమ్మి తన గడ్డముమీదికి కారనిచ్చుచు నుండెను. వారతని పట్టుకొనిపోగా అతడు పిచ్చిచేష్టలు చేయుచు వచ్చెను.

13. And he changed his behaviour before them and feigned himself a fool in their hands and scrabbled on the doors of the gate and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

14. కావున ఆకీషురాజుమీరు చూచితిరికదా? వానికి పిచ్చిపట్టినది, నాయొద్దకు వీని నెందుకు తీసికొని వచ్చితిరి?

14. Then Achish said unto his servants, Behold, ye see the man is mad; why [then] have ye brought him to me?

15. పిచ్చిచేష్టలు చేయు వారితో నాకేమి పని? నా సన్నిధిని పిచ్చిచేష్టలు చేయుటకు వీని తీసికొని వచ్చితిరేమి? వీడు నా నగరిలోనికి రాతగునా? అని తన సేవకులతో అనెను.

15. Have I need of mad men that ye have brought this [fellow] to play the mad man in my presence? Shall this [fellow] come into my house?:
