1. దావీదు సౌలుతో మాటలాడుట చాలించినప్పుడు యోనాతాను హృదయము దావీదు హృదయముతో కలిసిపోయెను; యోనాతాను దావీదును తనకు ప్రాణ స్నేహితునిగా భావించుకొని అతని ప్రేమించెను.

1. And it came to pass, when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2. ఆ దినమున అతని తండ్రి ఇంటికి తిరిగి అతని వెళ్లనియ్యక సౌలు అతనిని చేర్చుకొనెను.

2. And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

3. దావీదు తనకు ప్రాణ స్నేహితుడని భావించుకొని అతనిని ప్రేమించుచు యోనాతాను అతనితో నిబంధనచేసికొనెను.

3. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

4. మరియు యోనాతాను తన దుప్పటిని తన కత్తిని తన విల్లును నడికట్టును తీసి దావీదున కిచ్చెను.

4. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that [was] upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his belt.

5. దావీదు సౌలు తనను పంపిన చోట్లకెల్లను పోయి, సుబుద్ధిగలిగి పని చేసికొని వచ్చెను గనుక సౌలు యోధులమీద అతనిని నియమించెను. జనులందరి దృష్టికిని సౌలు సేవకుల దృష్టికిని దావీదు అను కూలుడై యుండెను.

5. And David went out wherever Saul sent him, [and] behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

6. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయుని హతముచేసి తిరిగి వచ్చినప్పుడు, స్త్రీలు ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల ఊళ్లన్నిటిలోనుండి తంబురల తోను సంభ్రమముతోను వాద్యములతోను పాడుచు నాట్యమాడుచు రాజైన సౌలును ఎదుర్కొనుటకై వచ్చిరి

6. And it came to pass as they came, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music.

7. ఆ స్త్రీలు గాన ప్రతిగానములు చేయుచు వాయించుచుసౌలు వేలకొలదియు, దావీదు పదివేలకొలదియు (శత్రువులను) హతము చేసిరనిరి.

7. And the women spoke to [one another] as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

8. ఆ మాటలు సౌలునకు ఇంపుగా నుండనందున అతడు బహు కోపము తెచ్చుకొనివారు దావీదునకు పదివేలకొలది అనియు, నాకు వేలకొలది అనియు స్తుతులు పాడిరే; రాజ్యము తప్ప మరి ఏమి అతడు తీసికొనగలడు అను కొనెను

8. And Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands: and [what] can he have more but the kingdom?

9. కాబట్టి నాటనుండి సౌలు దావీదుమీద విషపు చూపు నిలిపెను.

9. And Saul kept a jealous eye on David from that day and onward.

10. మరునాడు దేవునియొద్దనుండి దురాత్మ సౌలుమీదికి బలముగా వచ్చినందున అతడు ఇంటిలో ప్రవచించు చుండగా దావీదు మునుపటిలాగున వీణచేత పట్టుకొని వాయించెను.

10. And it came to pass on the next day, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and [there was] a javelin in Saul's hand.

11. ఒకప్పుడు సౌలు చేతిలో నొక యీటె యుండగాదావీదును పొడిచి గోడకు బిగించుదుననుకొని సౌలు ఆ యీటెను విసిరెను. అయితే అది తగలకుండ దావీదు రెండు మారులు తప్పించు కొనెను.

11. And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall. And David escaped from his presence twice.

12. యెహోవా తనను విడిచి దావీదునకు తోడై యుండుట చూచి సౌలు దావీదునకు భయపడెను.

12. And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and had departed from Saul.

13. కాబట్టి సౌలు అతని తనయొద్ద నుండనియ్యక సహస్రాధిపతిగా చేసెను; అతడు జనులకు ముందువచ్చుచు పోవుచు నుండెను.

13. Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.

14. మరియు దావీదు సమస్త విషయములలో సుబుద్ధిగలిగి ప్రవర్తింపగాయెహోవా అతనికి తోడుగా నుండెను.

14. And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD [was] with him.

15. దావీదు మిగుల సుబుద్ధిగలవాడై ప్రవర్తించుట సౌలు చూచి మరి యధికముగా అతనికి భయపడెను.

15. Therefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

16. ఇశ్రాయేలు వారితోను యూదావారి తోను దావీదు జనులకు ముందువచ్చుచు, పోవుచునుండుటచేత వారు అతనిని ప్రేమింపగా

16. But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

17. సౌలునా చెయ్యి వానిమీద పడకూడదు, ఫిలిష్తీయుల చెయ్యి వానిమీద పడును గాక అనుకొనిదావీదూ, నా పెద్ద కుమార్తెయైన మేరబును నీకిత్తును; నీవు నా పట్ల యుద్ధ శాలివై యుండి యెహోవా యుద్ధములను జరిగింపవలె ననెను.

17. And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee for a wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.

18. అందుకు దావీదురాజునకు అల్లుడనగుటకు నేనెంతటివాడను? నా స్థితియైనను ఇశ్రాయేలులో నా తండ్రి కుటుంబమైనను ఏపాటివని సౌలుతో అనెను.

18. And David said to Saul, Who [am] I? and what [is] my life, [or] my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?

19. అయితే సౌలు కుమార్తెయైన మేరబును దావీదునకు ఇయ్య వలసి యుండగా సౌలు ఆమెను మెహోలతీయుడైన అద్రీయేలుకిచ్చి పెండ్లి చేసెను.

19. But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife.

20. అయితే తన కుమార్తెయైన మీకాలు దావీదు మీద ప్రేమ గలిగియుండగా సౌలు విని సంతోషించి,

20. And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

21. ఆమె అతనికి ఉరిగానుండునట్లును ఫిలిష్తీయుల చెయ్యి అతనిమీద నుండునట్లును నేను ఆమెను అతనికి ఇత్తుననుకొనిఇప్పుడు నీవు మరి యొకదానిచేత నాకు అల్లుడవగుదువని దావీదుతో చెప్పి

21. And Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in [the one of] the two.

22. తన సేవకులను పిలిపించిమీరు దావీదుతో రహస్యముగా మాటలాడిరాజు నీయందు ఇష్టము గలిగియున్నాడు, అతని సేవకులందరును నీయెడల స్నేహముగా నున్నారు, కాబట్టి నీవు రాజునకు అల్లుడవు కావలెనని చెప్పవలెనని ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

22. And Saul commanded his servants, [saying], Speak with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.

23. సౌలు సేవకులు ఆ మాటలనుబట్టి దావీదుతో సంభాషింపగా దావీదునేను దరిద్రుడనైయెన్నిక లేని వాడనై యుండగా రాజునకు అల్లుడనగుట స్వల్ప విషయమని మీకు తోచునా? అని వారితో అనగా

23. And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you [a] light [thing] to be a king's son in law, seeing that I [am] a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

24. సౌలు సేవకులు దావీదు పలికిన మాటలు అతనికి తెలియ జేసిరి.

24. And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spoke David.

25. అందుకు సౌలు ఫిలిష్తీయులచేత దావీదును పడ గొట్టవలెనన్న తాత్పర్యము గలవాడైరాజు ఓలిని కోరక రాజు శత్రువులమీద పగతీర్చుకొనవలెనని ఫిలిష్తీయుల నూరు ముందోళ్లు కోరుచున్నాడని దావీదుతో చెప్పుడనెను.

25. And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

26. సౌలు సేవకులు ఆ మాటలు దావీదునకు తెలియ జేయగా తాను రాజునకు అల్లుడు కావలెనన్న కోరిక గలవాడై

26. And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days had not expired.

27. గడువుదాటక మునుపే లేచి తనవారితో పోయి ఫిలిష్తీయులలో రెండువందల మందిని హతముచేసి వారి ముందోళ్లు తీసికొనివచ్చి రాజునకు అల్లుడగుటకై కావలసిన లెక్క పూర్తిచేసి అప్పగింపగా సౌలు తన కుమార్తెయైన మీకాలును అతనికిచ్చి పెండ్లిచేసెను.

27. Therefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter for a wife.

28. యెహోవా దావీదునకు తోడుగా నుండుటయు, తన కుమార్తెయైన మీకాలు అతని ప్రేమించుటయు సౌలు చూచి

28. And Saul saw and knew that the LORD [was] with David, and [that] Michal Saul's daughter loved him.

29. దావీదునకు మరి యెక్కువగా భయపడి, యెల్లప్పుడును దావీదు మీద విరోధముగా ఉండెను.

29. And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.

30. ఫలిష్తీయుల సర్దారులు యుద్ధమునకు బయలు దేరుచు వచ్చిరి. వారు బయలుదేరినప్పుడెల్లను దావీదు బహు వివే కము గలిగి ప్రవర్తించుచు రాగా సౌలు సేవకులందరికంటె అతని పేరు బహు ప్రసిద్ధికెక్కెను.

30. Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, [that] David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much esteemed.
