1. ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ సైన్యములను యుద్ధమునకు సమ కూర్చి యూదా దేశములోని శోకోలో కూడి ఏఫెస్దమీ్మము దగ్గర శోకోకును అజేకాకును మధ్యను దిగి యుండగా

1. Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle. They were gathered at Socoh, which belongs to Judah. They set up their tents between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.

2. సౌలును ఇశ్రాయేలీయులును కూడివచ్చి ఏలాలోయలో దిగి ఫిలిష్తీయుల కెదురుగ యుద్ధపంక్తులు తీర్చిరి.

2. Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and set up their tents in the valley of Elah. They came up dressed for battle to fight against the Philistines.

3. ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఆతట్టు పర్వతము మీదను ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు ఈతట్టు పర్వతముమీదను నిలిచియుండగా ఉభయుల మధ్యను ఒక లోయయుండెను.

3. The Philistines stood on the mountain on one side while Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, with the valley between them.

4. గాతువాడైన గొల్యాతు అను శూరుడొకడు ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండులో నుండి బయలుదేరు చుండెను. అతడు ఆరుమూళ్లజేనెడు ఎత్తుమనిషి.

4. Then a strong fighter came out from the armies of the Philistines. His name was Goliath, from Gath. He was almost twice as tall as most men.

5. అతని తలమీద రాగి శిరస్త్రాణముండెను, అతడు యుద్ధకవచము ధరించియుండెను, ఆ కవచము అయిదు వేల తులముల రాగి యెత్తుగలది.

5. He had a head covering of brass, and wore brass battle-clothes that weighed as much as 5,000 silver pieces.

6. He wore brass leg-coverings, and had a brass spear on his shoulders.

7. The long part of his spear was like a cross-piece used on a cloth-maker. The iron head of his spear weighed as much as 600 pieces of silver. A man walked before him to carry his shield.

8. Goliath stood and called out to the army of Israel, saying, 'Why have you come out dressed for battle? Am I not the Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.

10. Again the Philistine said, 'I stand against the army of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.'

11. సౌలును ఇశ్రా యేలీయులందరును ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని మాటలు వినినప్పుడు బహు భీతులైరి.

11. When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were troubled and very afraid.

12. దావీదు యూదా బేత్లెహేమువాడగు ఎఫ్రాతీయు డైన యెష్షయి అనువాని కుమారుడు. యెష్షయికి ఎనమండు గురు కుమాళ్లుండిరి. అతడు సౌలు కాలమందు జనులలో ముసలివాడై యుండెను.

12. Now David was the son of Jesse, an Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah. Jesse had eight sons, and was old in the days of Saul. He had lived many years.

13. Jesse's three older sons had followed Saul to the battle. Their names were Eliab the first-born, next Abinadab, and third Shammah.

14. దావీదు కనిష్ఠుడు; పెద్దవారైన ముగ్గురు సౌలువెంటను పోయి యుండిరిగాని

14. David was the youngest. The three oldest sons followed Saul.

15. దావీదు బేత్లెహేములోతన తండ్రి గొఱ్ఱెలను మేపుచు సౌలునొద్దకు తిరిగి పోవుచు వచ్చుచు నుండెను.

15. But David went to and from Saul, to take care of his father's flock at Bethlehem.

16. ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు ఉదయమునను సాయంత్రమునను బయలు దేరుచు నలువది దినములు తన్ను తాను అగుపరచుకొనుచు వచ్చెను.

16. The Philistine came out and showed himself morning and evening for forty days.

17. యెష్షయి తన కుమారుడైన దావీదును పిలిచినీ సహోదరులకొరకు వేయించిన యీ గోధుమలలో ఒక తూమెడును ఈ పది రొట్టెలను తీసికొని దండులో నున్న నీ సహోదరులదగ్గరకు త్వరగా పొమ్ము.

17. Then Jesse said to his son David, 'Take for your brothers a basket of this baked grain and these ten loaves. Hurry and carry them to your brothers among the army.

18. మరియు ఈ పది జున్నుగడ్డలు తీసికొని పోయి వారి సహస్రాధిపతికిమ్ము; నీ సహోదరులు క్షేమముగా నున్నారో లేదో సంగతి తెలిసికొని వారియొద్దనుండి ఆనవాలొకటి తీసికొని రమ్మనిచెప్పి పంపివేసెను.

18. And take these ten pieces of cheese to the leader of the thousand man group who is with them. See how your brothers are doing, and bring me news of them.

19. సౌలును వారును ఇశ్రా యేలీయులందరును ఏలా లోయలో ఫిలిష్తీయులతో యుద్ధము చేయుచుండగా

19. Saul and your brothers and all the men of Israel are in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.'

20. దావీదు ఉదయమున లేచి ఒక కాపరికి గొఱ్ఱెలను అప్పగించి ఆ వస్తువులను తీసికొని యెష్షయి తన కిచ్చిన ఆజ్ఞ చొప్పున ప్రయాణమైపోయెను; అయితే అతడు కందకమునకు వచ్చునప్పటికి వారును వీరును పంక్తులుగా తీరి, జయము జయమని అరుచుచు యుద్ధమునకు సాగుచుండిరి.

20. So David got up early in the morning and left the flock in the care of a shepherd. He took the food and went, as Jesse had told him. And he came to the tents as the army was going out dressed for battle, calling out the war cry.

21. సైన్యము సైన్యమునకు ఎదురై ఇశ్రాయేలీయులును ఫిలిష్తీయులును యుద్ధసన్న ద్ధులై బయలుదేరు చుండిరి.

21. Israel and the Philistines came near each other dressed for battle, army against army.

22. దావీదు తాను తెచ్చిన వస్తువులను సామగ్రిని కనిపెట్టువాని వశము చేసి, పరు గెత్తిపోయి సైన్యములో చొచ్చి కుశలప్రశ్నలు తన సహోదరుల నడిగెను.

22. David left the things with the man to take care of them. He ran to the army, and went to meet with his brothers.

23. అతడు వారితో మాటలాడు చుండగా గాతు ఫిలిష్తీయుడైన గొల్యాతు అను శూరుడు ఫిలిష్తీయుల సైన్యములోనుండి వచ్చి పై చెప్పిన మాటల చొప్పున పలుకగా దావీదు వినెను.

23. As he talked with them, Goliath the Philistine from Gath came out of the army of the Philistines, and spoke the same words as before. And David heard him.

24. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరు ఆ మనుష్యుని చూచి మిక్కిలి భయపడి వాని యెదుటనుండి పారిపోగా

24. When all the men of Israel saw the man, they ran away from him and were very much afraid.

25. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడువచ్చుచున్న ఆ మనిషిని చూచితిరే; నిజముగా ఇశ్రా యేలీయులను తిరస్కరించుటకై వాడు బయలుదేరు చున్నాడు, వానిని చంపినవానికి రాజు బహుగ ఐశ్వర్యము కలుగజేసి తన కుమార్తెనిచ్చి పెండ్లిచేసి వాని తండ్రి ఇంటి వారిని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో స్వతంత్రులుగా చేయుననగా

25. The men of Israel said, 'Have you seen the man who has come out? He has come out to stand against Israel. The king will make the man who kills him rich. And he will give him his daughter, and make his father's family free from paying taxes in Israel.'

26. దావీదుజీవముగల దేవుని సైన్యములను తిరస్క రించుటకు ఈ సున్నతి లేని ఫిలిష్తీయుడు ఎంతటి వాడు? వాని చంపి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులనుండి యీ నింద తొలగించిన వానికి బహుమతి యేమని తనయొద్ద నిలిచినవారి నడుగగా

26. Then David said to the men standing by him, 'What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away Israel's shame? For who is this Philistine who has not gone through the religious act of the Jews? Who is he, that he should make fun of the armies of the living God?'

27. జనులువాని చంపినవానికి ఇట్లిట్లు చేయ బడునని అతని కుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

27. And the people answered him in the same way, 'This is what will be done for the man who kills him.'

28. His oldest brother Eliab heard what he said to the men. He became very angry with David and said, 'Why have you come here? With whom have you left those few sheep in the desert? I know of your pride and the sin of your heart. You have come to see the battle.'

29. అందుకు దావీదునేనేమి చేసితిని? మాట మాత్రము పలికితినని చెప్పి

29. But David said, 'What have I done now? Was it not just a question?'

30. అతనియొద్దనుండి తొలగి, తిరిగి మరియొకని ఆ ప్రకారమే యడుగగా జనులు వానికి అదేప్రకారము ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

30. Then David turned away from him to another and asked the same question. And the people gave him the same answer.

31. దావీదు చెప్పిన మాటలు నలుగురికిని తెలియగా జనులు ఆ సంగతి సౌలుతో తెలియ జెప్పిరి గనుక అతడు దావీదును పిలువ నంపెను.

31. When David's words were heard, they were told to Saul, and Saul sent for him.

32. ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయునిబట్టి యెవరిమనస్సును క్రుంగ నిమిత్తము లేదు. మీ దాసుడనైన నేను వానితో పోట్లాడుదునని దావీదు సౌలుతో అనగా

32. David said to Saul, 'Let no man's heart become weak because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.'

33. సౌలుఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుని ఎదుర్కొని వానితో పోట్లాడుటకు నీకు బలము చాలదు; నీవు బాలుడవు, వాడు బాల్యమునుండి యుద్ధాభ్యాసము చేసినవాడని దావీదుతో అనెను.

33. Saul said to David, 'You are not able to go and fight against this Philistine. You are only a young man, while he has been a man of war since he was young.'

34. అందుకు దావీదు సౌలుతో ఇట్లనెనుమీ దాసుడనైన నేను నా తండ్రియొక్క గొఱ్ఱెలను కాయుచుండ సింహమును ఎలుగుబంటియును వచ్చి మందలోనుండి ఒక గొఱ్ఱె పిల్లను ఎత్తికొని పోవుచుండగ.

34. But David said to Saul, 'Your servant was taking care of his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb from the flock,

35. నేను దానిని తరిమి చంపి దాని నోటనుండి ఆ గొఱ్ఱెను విడిపించితిని; అది నా మీదికి రాగా దాని గడ్డము పట్టుకొని దానిని కొట్టి చంపితిని.

35. I went after him and fought him and saved it from his mouth. When he came against me, I took hold of him by the hair of his head and hit him and killed him.

36. మీ దాసుడనైన నేను ఆ సింహమును ఎలుగు బంటిని చంపితినే, జీవముగల దేవుని సైన్యములను తిరస్క రించిన యీ సున్నతిలేని ఫిలిష్తీయుడు వాటిలో ఒకదానివలె అగుననియు,

36. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear. And this Philistine who has not gone through our religious act will be like one of them. For he has made fun of the armies of the living God.'

37. సింహముయొక్క బలమునుండియు, ఎలుగుబంటి యొక్క బలమునుండియు నన్ను రక్షించిన యెహోవా ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుని చేతిలోనుండికూడను నన్ను విడిపించుననియు చెప్పెను. అందుకు సౌలుపొమ్ము; యెహోవా నీకు తోడుగానుండునుగాక అని దావీదుతో అనెను.

37. And David said, 'The Lord Who saved me from the foot of the lion and from the foot of the bear, will save me from the hand of this Philistine.' Saul said to David, 'Go, and may the Lord be with you.'

38. పిమ్మట సౌలు తన యుద్ధవస్త్రములను దావీదునకు ధరింపజేసి, రాగి శిరస్త్రాణమొకటి అతనికి కట్టి, యుద్ధకవ చము తొడిగించెను.

38. Then Saul dressed David with his clothes. He put a brass head covering on his head, and dressed him with heavy battle-clothes.

39. ఈ సామగ్రి దావీదునకు వాడుకలేదు గనుక తాను తొడిగిన వాటిపైన కత్తి కట్టుకొని వెళ్ల కలిగినది లేనిది చూచుకొనిన తరువాత దావీదుఇవి నాకు వాడుకలేదు, వీటితో నేను వెళ్లలేనని సౌలుతో చెప్పి వాటిని తీసివేసి

39. David put on his sword over his heavy battle-clothes and tried to walk, for he was not used to them. Then David said to Saul, 'I cannot go with these, for I am not used to them.' And David took them off.

40. తన కఱ్ఱ చేత పట్టుకొని యేటి లోయలో నుండి అయిదు నున్నని రాళ్లను ఏరుకొని తనయొద్దనున్న చిక్కములో నుంచుకొని వడిసెల చేత పట్టుకొని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుని చేరువకు పోయెను.

40. He took his stick in his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the river. He put them in his shepherd's bag. His sling was in his hand, and he went to the Philistine.

41. డాలు మోయువాడు తనకు ముందు నడువగా ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు బయలుదేరి దావీదు దగ్గరకువచ్చి

41. The Philistine came near to David, with the man carrying his shield in front of him.

42. చుట్టు పారచూచి దావీదును కనుగొని, అతడు బాలుడై యెఱ్ఱటివాడును రూపసియునై యుండుట చూచి అతని తృణీకరించెను.

42. When the Philistine looked and saw David, he thought nothing of him. For he was only a young man, with good color in his skin, and good-looking.

43. ఫిలిష్తీయుడుకఱ్ఱ తీసి కొని నీవు నా మీదికి వచ్చుచున్నావే, నేను కుక్కనా? అని దావీదుతో చెప్పి తన దేవతల పేరట దావీదును శపించెను.

43. The Philistine said to David, 'Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?' And the Philistine spoke against David by his gods.

44. నా దగ్గరకు రమ్ము, నీ మాంసమును ఆకాశ పక్షులకును భూమృగముల కును ఇచ్చివేతునని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుడు దావీదుతో అనగా

44. The Philistine said to David, 'Come to me. I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the animals of the field.'

45. దావీదునీవు కత్తియు ఈటెయు బల్లెమును ధరించుకొని నా మీదికి వచ్చుచున్నావు అయితే నీవు తిరస్కరించిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సైన్యములకధిపతియగు యెహోవా పేరట నేను నీమీదికి వచ్చుచున్నాను.

45. Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword and spears. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of All, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom you have stood against.

46. ఈ దినమున యెహోవా నిన్ను నా చేతికి అప్పగించును; నేను నిన్ను చంపి నీ తల తెగవేతును; ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో దేవుడున్నాడని లోక నివాసులందరును తెలిసికొనునట్లు నేను ఈ దినమున ఫిలిష్తీయులయొక్క కళేబరములను ఆకాశపక్షులకును భూమృగములకును ఇత్తును.

46. This day the Lord will give you into my hands. I will knock you down and cut off your head. This day I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth. Then all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

47. అప్పుడు యెహోవా కత్తి చేతను ఈటెచేతను రక్షించువాడుకాడని యీ దండువా రందరు తెలిసికొందురు; యుద్ధము యెహోవాదే; ఆయన మిమ్మును మా చేతికి అప్పగించునని చెప్పెను.

47. All these people gathered here may know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord's and He will give you into our hands.'

48. ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుడు లేచి దావీదును కలియుటకై అతనికి ఎదురుపోగా దావీదు వానిని ఎదుర్కొనుటకు సైన్యముతట్టు త్వరగా పరుగెత్తిపోయి

48. Then the Philistine rose up and came to meet David. And David rushed to the center of the valley to meet the Philistine.

49. తన సంచిలో చెయ్యివేసి అందులోనుండి రాయి యొకటి తీసి వడిసెలతో విసరి ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయునినుదుట కొట్టెను. ఆ రాయి వాని నుదురుచొచ్చినందున వాడు నేలను బోర్లపడెను.

49. David put his hand into his bag, took out a stone and threw it, and hit the Philistine on his forehead. The stone went into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground.

50. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయునికంటె బలాఢ్యుడై ఖడ్గము లేకయే వడిసెలతోను రాతితోను ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని కొట్టి చంపెను.

50. So David won the fight against the Philistine with a sling and a stone. He hit the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in David's hand.

51. వాడు బోర్లపడగా దావీదు పరుగెత్తిపోయి ఫిలిష్తీయునిమీద నిలుచుండి వాని కత్తి వర దూసి దానితో వాని చంపి వాని తలను తెగవేసెను. ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ శూరుడు చచ్చుట చూచి పారి పోయిరి.

51. Then David ran and stood over the Philistine. He took his sword out of its holder and killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their strong soldier was dead, they ran away.

52. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలువారును యూదావారును లేచిజయము జయమని అరచుచు లోయవరకును షరా యిము ఎక్రోనువరకును ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుమగా ఫిలిష్తీ యులు హతులై షరాయిము ఎక్రోను మార్గమున గాతు ఎక్రోను అను పట్టణములవరకు కూలిరి.

52. The men of Israel and Judah rose up and called out and went after the Philistines as far as Gath and the gates of Ekron. The dead Philistines lay on the way from Shaaraim as far as Gath and Ekron.

53. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుముట మాని తిరిగి వచ్చి వారి డేరాలను దోచుకొనిరి.

53. Then the Israelites returned from following the Philistines and took what had belonged to them among their tents.

54. అయితే దావీదు ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుని ఆయుధములను తన డేరాలో ఉంచుకొని అతని తలను తీసికొని యెరూషలేమునకు వచ్చెను.

54. David took the Philistine's head and brought it to Jerusalem. But he put his battleclothes in his tent.

55. సౌలు దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయునికి ఎదురుగా పోవుట చూచినప్పుడు తన సైన్యాధిపతియైన అబ్నేరును పిలిచి అబ్నేరూ, ఈ ¸యౌవనుడు ఎవని కుమారుడని అడుగగా అబ్నేరురాజా, నీ ప్రాణముతోడు నాకు తెలియదనెను.

55. When Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner the head of his army, 'Abner, whose son is this young man?' And Abner said, 'By your life, O king, I do not know.'

56. అందుకు రాజుఈ పడుచువాడు ఎవని కుమా రుడో అడిగి తెలిసికొమ్మని అతనికి ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

56. The king said, 'Find out whose son the young man is.'

57. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయుని చంపి తిరిగి వచ్చినప్పుడు అబ్నేరు అతని పిలుచుకొనిపోయి ఫిలిష్తీయుని తల చేతనుండగా అతని సౌలు దగ్గరకు తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

57. So when David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner brought him to Saul with the Philistine's head in his hand.

58. సౌలు అతనిని చూచిచిన్నవాడా, నీవెవని కుమారుడవని అడుగగాదావీదునేను బేత్లెహేమీయుడైన యెష్షయి అను నీ దాసుని కుమారుడనని ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను.

58. Saul said to him, 'Whose son are you, young man?' David answered, 'I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.'
