1. ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ సైన్యములను యుద్ధమునకు సమ కూర్చి యూదా దేశములోని శోకోలో కూడి ఏఫెస్దమీ్మము దగ్గర శోకోకును అజేకాకును మధ్యను దిగి యుండగా

1. And the Philistines had gathered their armies for battle, and were gathered at Socoh of Judah. And they camped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim.

2. సౌలును ఇశ్రాయేలీయులును కూడివచ్చి ఏలాలోయలో దిగి ఫిలిష్తీయుల కెదురుగ యుద్ధపంక్తులు తీర్చిరి.

2. And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered, and camped in the valley of Elah. And they set the battle in order to meet the Philistines.

3. ఫిలిష్తీయులు ఆతట్టు పర్వతము మీదను ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు ఈతట్టు పర్వతముమీదను నిలిచియుండగా ఉభయుల మధ్యను ఒక లోయయుండెను.

3. And the Philistines stood on the mountain on this side, and Israel stood on the mountain on that side, and the valley between them.

4. గాతువాడైన గొల్యాతు అను శూరుడొకడు ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండులో నుండి బయలుదేరు చుండెను. అతడు ఆరుమూళ్లజేనెడు ఎత్తుమనిషి.

4. And a champion came out from the armies of the Philistines, Goliath was his name, from Gath; his height was six cubits and a span.

5. అతని తలమీద రాగి శిరస్త్రాణముండెను, అతడు యుద్ధకవచము ధరించియుండెను, ఆ కవచము అయిదు వేల తులముల రాగి యెత్తుగలది.

5. And a bronze helmet was on his head, and he was clothed with scaled body armor; and the weight of the armor was five thousand shekels of bronze.

6. మరియు అతని కాళ్లకు రాగి కవచమును అతని భుజముల మధ్యను రాగి బల్లెమొకటి యుండెను.

6. And a covering of bronze was on his legs, and a javelin of bronze between his shoulders.

7. అతని యీటె కఱ్ఱ నేతగాని దోనె అంత పెద్దది; మరియు అతని యీటెకొన ఆరువందల తులముల యినుము ఎత్తుగలది. ఒకడు డాలును మోయుచు అతని ముందర పోవుచుండెను.

7. And the wood of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and the blade of his spear weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And the shield bearer went before him.

8. అతడు నిలిచి ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల దండువారిని పిలిచియుద్ధపంక్తులు తీర్చుటకై మీ రెందుకు బయలుదేరి వచ్చితిరి?నేను ఫిలిష్తీయుడను కానా? మీరు సౌలు దాసులుకారా? మీ పక్షముగా ఒకనిని ఏర్ప రచుకొని అతని నాయొద్దకు పంపుడి;

8. And he stood and called to the ranks of Israel, and said to them, Why do you come out to set in order the battle? Am I not the Philistine, and you Saul's servants? Choose one of yourselves, and let him come to me.

9. If he is able to fight with me and strike me, then we shall become slaves to you. But if I prevail over him, and strike him, then you shall become slaves to us and shall serve us.

10. And the Philistine said, I defy the ranks of Israel this day; give me a man, and we will fight together.

11. సౌలును ఇశ్రా యేలీయులందరును ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని మాటలు వినినప్పుడు బహు భీతులైరి.

11. And Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine. And they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

12. దావీదు యూదా బేత్లెహేమువాడగు ఎఫ్రాతీయు డైన యెష్షయి అనువాని కుమారుడు. యెష్షయికి ఎనమండు గురు కుమాళ్లుండిరి. అతడు సౌలు కాలమందు జనులలో ముసలివాడై యుండెను.

12. And David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem-Judah named Jesse. And to him were eight sons. And the man was old among men in the days of Saul.

13. అయితే యెష్షయియొక్క ముగ్గురు పెద్దకుమారులు యుద్ధమునకు సౌలువెంటను పోయి యుండిరి. యుద్ధమునకు పోయిన అతని ముగ్గురు కుమా రుల పేరులు ఏవనగా, జ్యేష్ఠుడు ఏలీయాబు, రెండవవాడు అబీనాదాబు, మూడవవాడు షమ్మా,

13. And the three eldest sons of Jesse went out; they went after Saul to the battle. And the name of his three sons who went into the battle: Eliab, the first-born; and his second, Abinadab; and the third, Shammah.

14. దావీదు కనిష్ఠుడు; పెద్దవారైన ముగ్గురు సౌలువెంటను పోయి యుండిరిగాని

14. And David was the youngest. And the three eldest had gone after Saul.

15. దావీదు బేత్లెహేములోతన తండ్రి గొఱ్ఱెలను మేపుచు సౌలునొద్దకు తిరిగి పోవుచు వచ్చుచు నుండెను.

15. And David went and returned from Saul, to feed his father's flock at Bethlehem.

16. ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు ఉదయమునను సాయంత్రమునను బయలు దేరుచు నలువది దినములు తన్ను తాను అగుపరచుకొనుచు వచ్చెను.

16. And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

17. యెష్షయి తన కుమారుడైన దావీదును పిలిచినీ సహోదరులకొరకు వేయించిన యీ గోధుమలలో ఒక తూమెడును ఈ పది రొట్టెలను తీసికొని దండులో నున్న నీ సహోదరులదగ్గరకు త్వరగా పొమ్ము.

17. And Jesse said to his son David, Please take to your brothers an ephah of this roasted grain and these ten loaves, and run to the camp, to your brothers.

18. మరియు ఈ పది జున్నుగడ్డలు తీసికొని పోయి వారి సహస్రాధిపతికిమ్ము; నీ సహోదరులు క్షేమముగా నున్నారో లేదో సంగతి తెలిసికొని వారియొద్దనుండి ఆనవాలొకటి తీసికొని రమ్మనిచెప్పి పంపివేసెను.

18. And you shall take these ten cuttings of cheese to the commander of the thousand, and you shall visit your brothers, as to how they fare. And you shall bring their token.

19. సౌలును వారును ఇశ్రా యేలీయులందరును ఏలా లోయలో ఫిలిష్తీయులతో యుద్ధము చేయుచుండగా

19. And Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

20. దావీదు ఉదయమున లేచి ఒక కాపరికి గొఱ్ఱెలను అప్పగించి ఆ వస్తువులను తీసికొని యెష్షయి తన కిచ్చిన ఆజ్ఞ చొప్పున ప్రయాణమైపోయెను; అయితే అతడు కందకమునకు వచ్చునప్పటికి వారును వీరును పంక్తులుగా తీరి, జయము జయమని అరుచుచు యుద్ధమునకు సాగుచుండిరి.

20. And David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper, and got up and went, as Jesse commanded him. And he came to the barricade, and to the army which was going out to the battle array. And they were shouting for battle.

21. సైన్యము సైన్యమునకు ఎదురై ఇశ్రాయేలీయులును ఫిలిష్తీయులును యుద్ధసన్న ద్ధులై బయలుదేరు చుండిరి.

21. And Israel and the Philistines set up in battle array for rank to meet rank.

22. దావీదు తాను తెచ్చిన వస్తువులను సామగ్రిని కనిపెట్టువాని వశము చేసి, పరు గెత్తిపోయి సైన్యములో చొచ్చి కుశలప్రశ్నలు తన సహోదరుల నడిగెను.

22. And David left the goods on him into the hands of the keeper of the goods, and he ran to the army. And he he came and asked his brothers of their welfare.

23. అతడు వారితో మాటలాడు చుండగా గాతు ఫిలిష్తీయుడైన గొల్యాతు అను శూరుడు ఫిలిష్తీయుల సైన్యములోనుండి వచ్చి పై చెప్పిన మాటల చొప్పున పలుకగా దావీదు వినెను.

23. And as he was speaking to them, even, behold! The man between the two, Goliath the Philistine was his name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines. And he spoke according to these words. And David heard.

24. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరు ఆ మనుష్యుని చూచి మిక్కిలి భయపడి వాని యెదుటనుండి పారిపోగా

24. And when they saw the man, all the men of Israel ran from him, and were very much afraid.

25. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడువచ్చుచున్న ఆ మనిషిని చూచితిరే; నిజముగా ఇశ్రా యేలీయులను తిరస్కరించుటకై వాడు బయలుదేరు చున్నాడు, వానిని చంపినవానికి రాజు బహుగ ఐశ్వర్యము కలుగజేసి తన కుమార్తెనిచ్చి పెండ్లిచేసి వాని తండ్రి ఇంటి వారిని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో స్వతంత్రులుగా చేయుననగా

25. And the men of Israel said, Have you seen this man who comes up? For he has come to reproach Israel. And it shall be, the man who strikes him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and he will give his daughter to him. And he will make his father's house free in Israel.

26. దావీదుజీవముగల దేవుని సైన్యములను తిరస్క రించుటకు ఈ సున్నతి లేని ఫిలిష్తీయుడు ఎంతటి వాడు? వాని చంపి ఇశ్రాయేలీయులనుండి యీ నింద తొలగించిన వానికి బహుమతి యేమని తనయొద్ద నిలిచినవారి నడుగగా

26. And David spoke to the men who were standing with him, saying, What shall be done to the man who strikes this Philistine, and turns aside reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should reproach the armies of the living God?

27. జనులువాని చంపినవానికి ఇట్లిట్లు చేయ బడునని అతని కుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

27. And the people spoke to him according to this word, saying, So shall it be done to the man who strikes him.

28. అతడు వారితో మాటలాడునది అతని పెద్దన్న యగు ఏలీయాబునకు వినబడగా ఏలీయాబునకు దావీదు మీద కోపమువచ్చి అతనితోనీవిక్కడి కెందుకు వచ్చితివి? అరణ్యములోని ఆ చిన్న గొఱ్ఱె మందను ఎవరి వశము చేసితివి? నీ గర్వమును నీ హృదయపు చెడుతనమును నేనెరుగుదును; యుద్ధము చూచుటకే గదా నీవు వచ్చితి వనెను.

28. And his eldest brother Eliab heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger glowed against David. And he said, Why is it you have come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.

29. అందుకు దావీదునేనేమి చేసితిని? మాట మాత్రము పలికితినని చెప్పి

29. And David said, What have I done now? Was it not but a word?

30. అతనియొద్దనుండి తొలగి, తిరిగి మరియొకని ఆ ప్రకారమే యడుగగా జనులు వానికి అదేప్రకారము ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

30. And he turned around from him to another and said according to this word. And the people answered him a word like the first word.

31. దావీదు చెప్పిన మాటలు నలుగురికిని తెలియగా జనులు ఆ సంగతి సౌలుతో తెలియ జెప్పిరి గనుక అతడు దావీదును పిలువ నంపెను.

31. And the words which David had spoken were heard. And they were told before Saul, and he received him.

32. ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయునిబట్టి యెవరిమనస్సును క్రుంగ నిమిత్తము లేదు. మీ దాసుడనైన నేను వానితో పోట్లాడుదునని దావీదు సౌలుతో అనగా

32. And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and will fight with this Philistine.

33. సౌలుఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుని ఎదుర్కొని వానితో పోట్లాడుటకు నీకు బలము చాలదు; నీవు బాలుడవు, వాడు బాల్యమునుండి యుద్ధాభ్యాసము చేసినవాడని దావీదుతో అనెను.

33. And Saul said to David, You are not able to go to this Philistine, to fight with him, for you are a youth, and he is a man of war from his youth.

34. అందుకు దావీదు సౌలుతో ఇట్లనెనుమీ దాసుడనైన నేను నా తండ్రియొక్క గొఱ్ఱెలను కాయుచుండ సింహమును ఎలుగుబంటియును వచ్చి మందలోనుండి ఒక గొఱ్ఱె పిల్లను ఎత్తికొని పోవుచుండగ.

34. And David said to Saul, Your servant has been a shepherd among sheep for his father. And the lion came, and the bear, and took away a sheep out of the flock.

35. నేను దానిని తరిమి చంపి దాని నోటనుండి ఆ గొఱ్ఱెను విడిపించితిని; అది నా మీదికి రాగా దాని గడ్డము పట్టుకొని దానిని కొట్టి చంపితిని.

35. And I went out after him and struck him, and delivered out of his mouth. And he rose against me, and I took hold of his beard and struck him, and killed him.

36. మీ దాసుడనైన నేను ఆ సింహమును ఎలుగు బంటిని చంపితినే, జీవముగల దేవుని సైన్యములను తిరస్క రించిన యీ సున్నతిలేని ఫిలిష్తీయుడు వాటిలో ఒకదానివలె అగుననియు,

36. Your servant has struck both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, for he has reproached the armies of the living God.

37. సింహముయొక్క బలమునుండియు, ఎలుగుబంటి యొక్క బలమునుండియు నన్ను రక్షించిన యెహోవా ఈ ఫిలిష్తీయుని చేతిలోనుండికూడను నన్ను విడిపించుననియు చెప్పెను. అందుకు సౌలుపొమ్ము; యెహోవా నీకు తోడుగానుండునుగాక అని దావీదుతో అనెను.

37. And David said, Jehovah, who has delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He shall deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and Jehovah be with you.

38. పిమ్మట సౌలు తన యుద్ధవస్త్రములను దావీదునకు ధరింపజేసి, రాగి శిరస్త్రాణమొకటి అతనికి కట్టి, యుద్ధకవ చము తొడిగించెను.

38. And Saul clothed David with his apparel, and put a bronze helmet on his head, and clothed him with body armor.

39. ఈ సామగ్రి దావీదునకు వాడుకలేదు గనుక తాను తొడిగిన వాటిపైన కత్తి కట్టుకొని వెళ్ల కలిగినది లేనిది చూచుకొనిన తరువాత దావీదుఇవి నాకు వాడుకలేదు, వీటితో నేను వెళ్లలేనని సౌలుతో చెప్పి వాటిని తీసివేసి

39. And David girded his sword on his apparel, and started to go. But he had not tested these. And David said to Saul, I am not able to go with these, for I have not tested them. And David took them off him.

40. తన కఱ్ఱ చేత పట్టుకొని యేటి లోయలో నుండి అయిదు నున్నని రాళ్లను ఏరుకొని తనయొద్దనున్న చిక్కములో నుంచుకొని వడిసెల చేత పట్టుకొని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుని చేరువకు పోయెను.

40. And he took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones from the valley. And he put them in the shepherd's bag which he had, even in his pouch. And his sling was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine.

41. డాలు మోయువాడు తనకు ముందు నడువగా ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుడు బయలుదేరి దావీదు దగ్గరకువచ్చి

41. And the Philistine came on, coming and drawing near to David; and the shield bearer was before him.

42. చుట్టు పారచూచి దావీదును కనుగొని, అతడు బాలుడై యెఱ్ఱటివాడును రూపసియునై యుండుట చూచి అతని తృణీకరించెను.

42. And the Philistine looked, and he saw David, and disdained him, for he was a youth, even ruddy, with a handsome form.

43. ఫిలిష్తీయుడుకఱ్ఱ తీసి కొని నీవు నా మీదికి వచ్చుచున్నావే, నేను కుక్కనా? అని దావీదుతో చెప్పి తన దేవతల పేరట దావీదును శపించెను.

43. And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog that you have come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

44. నా దగ్గరకు రమ్ము, నీ మాంసమును ఆకాశ పక్షులకును భూమృగముల కును ఇచ్చివేతునని ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుడు దావీదుతో అనగా

44. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the field.

45. దావీదునీవు కత్తియు ఈటెయు బల్లెమును ధరించుకొని నా మీదికి వచ్చుచున్నావు అయితే నీవు తిరస్కరించిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సైన్యములకధిపతియగు యెహోవా పేరట నేను నీమీదికి వచ్చుచున్నాను.

45. And David said to the Philistine, You are coming to me with sword, and with spear, and with javelin. But I am coming to you in the name of Jehovah of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, which you have reproached.

46. ఈ దినమున యెహోవా నిన్ను నా చేతికి అప్పగించును; నేను నిన్ను చంపి నీ తల తెగవేతును; ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో దేవుడున్నాడని లోక నివాసులందరును తెలిసికొనునట్లు నేను ఈ దినమున ఫిలిష్తీయులయొక్క కళేబరములను ఆకాశపక్షులకును భూమృగములకును ఇత్తును.

46. Today Jehovah shall shut you up into my hand, and I shall strike you, and take off your head from you and give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the earth today. And all the earth shall know that there is a God for Israel.

47. అప్పుడు యెహోవా కత్తి చేతను ఈటెచేతను రక్షించువాడుకాడని యీ దండువా రందరు తెలిసికొందురు; యుద్ధము యెహోవాదే; ఆయన మిమ్మును మా చేతికి అప్పగించునని చెప్పెను.

47. And all this company shall know that Jehovah does not save by sword and by spear, but that the battle belongs to Jehovah, and He has given you into our hand.

48. ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుడు లేచి దావీదును కలియుటకై అతనికి ఎదురుపోగా దావీదు వానిని ఎదుర్కొనుటకు సైన్యముతట్టు త్వరగా పరుగెత్తిపోయి

48. And it happened, when the Philistine arose and went, and drew near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the ranks to meet the Philistine.

49. తన సంచిలో చెయ్యివేసి అందులోనుండి రాయి యొకటి తీసి వడిసెలతో విసరి ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయునినుదుట కొట్టెను. ఆ రాయి వాని నుదురుచొచ్చినందున వాడు నేలను బోర్లపడెను.

49. And David put his hand into the pouch and took a stone from there. And he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.

50. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయునికంటె బలాఢ్యుడై ఖడ్గము లేకయే వడిసెలతోను రాతితోను ఆ ఫిలిష్తీయుని కొట్టి చంపెను.

50. And David was stronger than the Philistine with the sling and with the stone. And he struck the Philistine and killed him. And there was no sword in David's hand.

51. వాడు బోర్లపడగా దావీదు పరుగెత్తిపోయి ఫిలిష్తీయునిమీద నిలుచుండి వాని కత్తి వర దూసి దానితో వాని చంపి వాని తలను తెగవేసెను. ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ శూరుడు చచ్చుట చూచి పారి పోయిరి.

51. And David ran and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword; and he drew it out of its sheath and killed him. And he cut off his head with it. And the Philistines saw that their warrior was dead, and they fled.

52. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలువారును యూదావారును లేచిజయము జయమని అరచుచు లోయవరకును షరా యిము ఎక్రోనువరకును ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుమగా ఫిలిష్తీ యులు హతులై షరాయిము ఎక్రోను మార్గమున గాతు ఎక్రోను అను పట్టణములవరకు కూలిరి.

52. And the men of Israel and Judah rose up and shouted, and pursued the Philistines until you enter the valley, even to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell in the way of Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.

53. అప్పుడు ఇశ్రా యేలీయులు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుముట మాని తిరిగి వచ్చి వారి డేరాలను దోచుకొనిరి.

53. And the sons of Israel returned from hotly pursuing the Philistines; and they pillaged their camps.

54. అయితే దావీదు ఆ ఫిలిష్తీ యుని ఆయుధములను తన డేరాలో ఉంచుకొని అతని తలను తీసికొని యెరూషలేమునకు వచ్చెను.

54. And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem; and he put his weapons in his own tent.

55. సౌలు దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయునికి ఎదురుగా పోవుట చూచినప్పుడు తన సైన్యాధిపతియైన అబ్నేరును పిలిచి అబ్నేరూ, ఈ ¸యౌవనుడు ఎవని కుమారుడని అడుగగా అబ్నేరురాజా, నీ ప్రాణముతోడు నాకు తెలియదనెను.

55. And when Saul saw David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner, the army commander, Whose son is this youth, Abner? And Abner said, As your soul lives, O king, I do not know.

56. అందుకు రాజుఈ పడుచువాడు ఎవని కుమా రుడో అడిగి తెలిసికొమ్మని అతనికి ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

56. And the king said, You ask whose son this young man is.

57. దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీయుని చంపి తిరిగి వచ్చినప్పుడు అబ్నేరు అతని పిలుచుకొనిపోయి ఫిలిష్తీయుని తల చేతనుండగా అతని సౌలు దగ్గరకు తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

57. And when David returned from striking the Philistine, then Abner took him and brought him before Saul; and the head of the Philistine was in his hand.

58. సౌలు అతనిని చూచిచిన్నవాడా, నీవెవని కుమారుడవని అడుగగాదావీదునేను బేత్లెహేమీయుడైన యెష్షయి అను నీ దాసుని కుమారుడనని ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను.

58. And Saul said to him, Whose son are you, boy? And David said, The son of your servant Jesse, the Bethlehemite.
