1. అమ్మోనీయుడైన నాహాషు బయలుదేరి యాబేష్గిలాదు కెదురుగా దిగినప్పుడు యాబేషు వారందరుమేము నీకు సేవచేయుదుము, మాతో నిబంధనచేయుమని నాహాషుతో అనిరి

1. About a month later, Nahash the Ammonite went up and laid siege to Jabesh-gilead. All the men of Jabesh begged Nahash, 'Make a treaty with us, and we will be your subjects.'

2. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరి మీదికి నింద తెచ్చునట్లు మీయందరి కుడికన్నులను ఊడదీయుదునని మీతో నేను నిబంధన చేసెదనని అమ్మోనీయుడైన నాహాషు

2. But Nahash the Ammonite replied, 'This is my condition for a treaty with you: I must gouge out every man's right eye, that I may thus bring ignominy on all Israel.'

3. యాబేషు వారి పెద్దలతో చెప్పగా వారుమేము ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సరిహద్దు లన్నిటికి దూతలను పంపుటకై యేడు దినముల గడువు మాకిమ్ము; మమ్మును రక్షించుటకు ఎవరును లేక పోయిన యెడల మమ్మును మేము నీకప్పగించుకొనెద మనిరి.

3. The elders of Jabesh said to him: 'Give us seven days to send messengers throughout the territory of Israel. If no one rescues us, we will surrender to you.'

4. దూతలు సౌలు గిబియాకు వచ్చి జనులకు ఆ వర్త మానము తెలియజెప్పగా జనులందరు బిగ్గరగా ఏడ్చిరి.

4. When the messengers arrived at Gibeah of Saul, they related the news to the people, all of whom wept aloud.

5. సౌలు పొలమునుండి పశువులను తోలుకొని వచ్చుచుజనులు ఏడ్చుటకు హేతువేమని అడుగగా వారు యాబేషువారు తెచ్చిన వర్తమానము అతనికి తెలియజేసిరి.

5. Just then Saul came in from the field, behind his oxen. 'Why are the people weeping?' he asked. The message of the inhabitants of Jabesh was repeated to him.

6. సౌలు ఆ వర్తమానము వినగానే దేవుని ఆత్మ అతనిమీదికి బలముగా వచ్చెను. అతడు అత్యాగ్రహుడై

6. As he listened to this report, the spirit of God rushed upon him and he became very angry.

7. ఒక కాడి ఎడ్లను తీసి తునకలుగా చేసి ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల దేశములోని నలుదిక్కులకు దూతలచేత వాటిని పంపిసౌలుతోను సమూయేలుతోను చేరకుండువాడెవడో వాని ఎడ్లను నేను ఈ ప్రకారముగా చేయుదునని వర్తమానము చేసెను. అందువలన యెహోవా భయము జనులమీదికి వచ్చెను గనుక యొకడైనను నిలువకుండ వారందరు వచ్చిరి.

7. Taking a yoke of oxen, he cut them into pieces, which he sent throughout the territory of Israel by couriers with the message, 'If anyone does not come out to follow Saul (and Samuel), the same as this will be done to his oxen!' In dread of the LORD, the people turned out to a man.

8. అతడు బెజెకులో వారిని లెక్క పెట్టగా ఇశ్రాయేలువారు మూడు లక్షలమందియు యూదావారు ముప్పదివేల మందియు అయిరి.

8. When he reviewed them in Bezek, there were three hundred thousand Israelites and seventy thousand Judahites.

9. అప్పుడురేపు మధ్యాహ్నములోగా మీకు రక్షణ కలుగునని యాబేష్గిలాదు వారితో చెప్పుడని వచ్చిన దూతలతో ఆజ్ఞనిచ్చి వారిని పంపివేసెను. దూతలు పోయి యాబేషువారికి ఆ వర్తమానము తెలుపగా వారు సంతోషపడిరి.

9. To the messengers who had come he said, 'Tell the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead that tomorrow, while the sun is hot, they will be rescued.' The messengers came and reported this to the inhabitants of Jabesh, who were jubilant,

10. కాబట్టి యాబేషువారు నాహాషు యొక్క దూతలతో ఇట్లనిరిరేపు మేము బయలుదేరి మమ్మును అప్పగించుకొందుము, అప్పుడు మీ దృష్టికి ఏది అనుకూలమో అది మాకు చేయవచ్చును.

10. and said to Nahash, 'Tomorrow we will surrender to you, and you may do whatever you please with us.'

11. మరునాడు సౌలు జనులను మూడు సమూహములుగా చేసిన తరువాత వారు తెల్లవారు సమయమున దండుమధ్యను జొచ్చి మధ్యాహ్నములోగా అమ్మోనీయులను హతముచేయగా వారిలో మిగిలినవారు ఇద్దరేసికూడి పోజాలకుండ చెదరిపోయిరి.

11. On the appointed day, Saul arranged his troops in three companies and invaded the camp during the dawn watch. They slaughtered Ammonites until the heat of the day; by then the survivors were so scattered that no two were left together.

12. జనులుసౌలు మనలను ఏలునా అని అడిగిన వారేరి? మేము వారిని చంపునట్లు ఆ మనుష్యులను తెప్పించుడని సమూయేలుతో అనగా

12. The people then said to Samuel: 'Who questioned whether Saul should rule over us? Hand over the men and we will put them to death.'

13. సౌలునేడు యెహోవా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు రక్షణ కలుగజేసెను గనుక ఈ దినమున ఏ మనుష్యుని మీరు చంపవద్దనెను.

13. But Saul broke in to say, 'No man is to be put to death this day, for today the LORD has saved Israel.'

14. మనము గిల్గాలునకు వెళ్లి రాజ్యపరిపాలన పద్ధతిని మరల స్థాపించుకొందము రండని చెప్పి సమూయేలు జనులను పిలువగా

14. Samuel said to the people, 'Come, let us go to Gilgal to inaugurate the kingdom there.'

15. జనులందరు గిల్గాలునకు వచ్చి గిల్గాలులో యెహోవా సన్నిధిని సమాధానబలులను అర్పించి, యెహోవా సన్నిధిని సౌలునకు పట్టాభిషేకము చేసిరి. సౌలును ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును అక్కడ బహుగా సంతోషించిరి.

15. So all the people went to Gilgal, where, in the presence of the LORD, they made Saul king. They also sacrificed peace offerings there before the LORD, and Saul and all the Israelites celebrated the occasion with great joy.
