1. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెనుయాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమ డును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు షిత్తీములో దిగియుండగా ప్రజలు మోయాబురాండ్రతో వ్యభిచారము చేయసాగిరి.

1. And Israel sojourned in Shittim, and the people profaned themselves by committing harlotry with the daughters of Moab.

2. ఆ స్త్రీలు తమ దేవతల బలులకు ప్రజలను పిలువగా వీరు భోజనముచేసి వారి దేవతలకు నమస్కరించిరి.

2. And they called them to the sacrifices of their idols; and the people ate of their sacrifices, and worshipped their idols.

3. అట్లు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు బయల్పెయోరుతో కలిసికొనినందున వారిమీద యెహోవా కోపము రగులుకొనెను.

3. And Israel consecrated themselves to Baal of Peor; and the Lord was very angry with Israel.

4. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేతో ఇట్లనెనునీవు ప్రజల అధిపతుల నందరిని తోడుకొని, యెహోవా సన్నిధిని సూర్యునికి ఎదురుగా వారిని ఉరితీయుము. అప్పుడు యెహోవా కోపాగ్ని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులమీదనుండి తొలగిపోవునని చెప్పెను.

4. And the Lord said to Moses, Take all the princes of the people, and make them examples [of judgment] for the Lord in the face of the sun, and the anger of the Lord shall be turned away from Israel.

5. కాబట్టి మోషే ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల న్యాయాధి పతులను పిలిపించి మీలో ప్రతివాడును బయల్పెయో రుతో కలిసికొనిన తన తన వశములోనివారిని చంపవలెనని చెప్పెను.

5. And Moses said to the tribes of Israel, Every one of you kill his friend that is consecrated to Baal of Peor.

6. ఇదిగో మోషే కన్నుల యెదుటను, ప్రత్య క్షపు గుడారము యొక్క ద్వారము నొద్ద ఏడ్చుచుండిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సర్వసమాజము యొక్క కన్నులయెదు టను, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడు తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు ఒక మిద్యాను స్త్రీని తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

6. And behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought his brother to a Midianite woman before Moses, and before all the congregation of the children of Israel; and they were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of witness.

7. యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమా రుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు అది చూచి,

7. And Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose out of the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand,

8. సమాజమునుండి లేచి, యీటెను చేత పట్టుకొని పడకచోటికి ఆ ఇశ్రా యేలీయుని వెంబడి వెళ్లి ఆ యిద్దరిని, అనగా ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని ఆ స్త్రీని కడుపులో గుండ దూసిపోవు నట్లు పొడిచెను; అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలోనుండి తెగులు నిలిచి పోయెను.

8. and went in after the Israelite man into the chamber, and pierced them both through, both the Israelite man, and the woman through her womb; and the plague was stopped from the children of Israel.

9. ఇరువది నాలుగువేలమంది ఆ తెగులు చేత చనిపోయిరి.

9. And those that died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

10. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెనుయాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమ డును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు,

10. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

11. వారి మధ్యను నేను ఓర్వలేనిదానిని తాను ఓర్వలేకపోవుటవలన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీదనుండి నా కోపము మళ్లించెను గనుక నేను ఓర్వలేకయుండియు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను నశింపజేయలేదు.

11. Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest has caused My wrath to cease from the children of Israel, when I was exceedingly jealous among them, and I did not consume the children of Israel in My jealousy.

12. కాబట్టి నీవు అతనితో ఇట్లనుము అతనితో నేను నా సమాధాన నిబంధనను చేయుచున్నాను.

12. Therefore say, Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace;

13. అది నిత్యమైన యాజక నిబంధనగా అతనికిని అతని సంతానమునకును కలిగియుండును; ఏలయనగా అతడు తన దేవుని విషయమందు ఆసక్తిగలవాడై ఇశ్రా యేలీయుల నిమిత్తము ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము చేసెను.

13. and he and his seed after him shall have a perpetual covenant of priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

14. చంప బడిన వాని పేరు జిమీ, అతడు షిమ్యోనీయులలో తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకు ప్రధానియైన సాలూ కుమారుడు.

14. Now the name of the smitten Israelite man, who was smitten with the Midianite woman, [was] Zambri son of Salmon, prince of a house of the tribe of Simeon.

15. చంపబడిన స్త్రీ పేరు కొజ్బీ, ఆమె సూరు కుమార్తె. అతడు మిద్యానీయులలో ఒక గోత్రమునకును తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకును ప్రధానియై యుండెను.

15. And the name of the Midianite woman who was smitten, [was] Cozbi, daughter of Zur, a prince of the nation of Hommoth: it is a chief house among the people of Midian.

16. మరియు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు సెలవిచ్చెను మిద్యానీయులు తమ తంత్రములవలన మీకు బాధకులై యున్నారు; వారిని బాధపెట్టి హతము చేయుడి;

16. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying,

17. వారు తంత్రములు చేసి పెయోరు సంతతిలోను,

17. Harass the Midianites as enemies, and strike them,

18. తెగులు దిన మందు పెయోరు విషయములో చంపబడిన తమ సహో దరియు మిద్యానీయుల అధిపతి కుమార్తెయునైన కొజ్బీ సంగతిలోను, మిమ్మును మోసపుచ్చిరి.

18. for they are enemies to you by the treachery in which they ensnare you through Peor, and through Cozbi their sister, daughter of a prince of Midian, who was smitten in the day of the plague because of Peor.
