1. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెనుయాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమ డును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు షిత్తీములో దిగియుండగా ప్రజలు మోయాబురాండ్రతో వ్యభిచారము చేయసాగిరి.

1. While the Israelites were camped at Acacia, some of the men had sex with Moabite women.

2. ఆ స్త్రీలు తమ దేవతల బలులకు ప్రజలను పిలువగా వీరు భోజనముచేసి వారి దేవతలకు నమస్కరించిరి.

2. These women then invited the men to ceremonies where sacrifices were offered to their gods. The men ate the meat from the sacrifices and worshiped the Moabite gods.

3. అట్లు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు బయల్పెయోరుతో కలిసికొనినందున వారిమీద యెహోవా కోపము రగులుకొనెను.

3. The LORD was angry with Israel because they had worshiped the god Baal Peor.

4. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేతో ఇట్లనెనునీవు ప్రజల అధిపతుల నందరిని తోడుకొని, యెహోవా సన్నిధిని సూర్యునికి ఎదురుగా వారిని ఉరితీయుము. అప్పుడు యెహోవా కోపాగ్ని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులమీదనుండి తొలగిపోవునని చెప్పెను.

4. So he said to Moses, 'Take the Israelite leaders who are responsible for this and have them killed in front of my sacred tent where everyone can see. Maybe then I will stop being angry with the Israelites.'

5. కాబట్టి మోషే ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల న్యాయాధి పతులను పిలిపించి మీలో ప్రతివాడును బయల్పెయో రుతో కలిసికొనిన తన తన వశములోనివారిని చంపవలెనని చెప్పెను.

5. Moses told Israel's officials, 'Each of you must put to death any of your men who worshiped Baal.'

6. ఇదిగో మోషే కన్నుల యెదుటను, ప్రత్య క్షపు గుడారము యొక్క ద్వారము నొద్ద ఏడ్చుచుండిన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సర్వసమాజము యొక్క కన్నులయెదు టను, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో ఒకడు తన సహోదరుల యొద్దకు ఒక మిద్యాను స్త్రీని తోడుకొనివచ్చెను.

6. Later, Moses and the people were at the sacred tent, crying, when one of the Israelite men brought a Midianite woman to meet his family.

7. యాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమడును ఎలియాజరు కుమా రుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు అది చూచి,

7. Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron the priest, saw the couple and left the crowd. He found a spear

8. సమాజమునుండి లేచి, యీటెను చేత పట్టుకొని పడకచోటికి ఆ ఇశ్రా యేలీయుని వెంబడి వెళ్లి ఆ యిద్దరిని, అనగా ఆ ఇశ్రాయేలీయుని ఆ స్త్రీని కడుపులో గుండ దూసిపోవు నట్లు పొడిచెను; అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలోనుండి తెగులు నిలిచి పోయెను.

8. and followed the man into his tent, where he ran the spear through the man and into the woman's stomach. The LORD immediately stopped punishing Israel with a deadly disease,

9. ఇరువది నాలుగువేలమంది ఆ తెగులు చేత చనిపోయిరి.

9. but twenty-four thousand Israelites had already died.

10. అప్పుడు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెనుయాజకుడైన అహరోను మనుమ డును ఎలియాజరు కుమారుడునైన ఫీనెహాసు,

10. The LORD said to Moses,

11. వారి మధ్యను నేను ఓర్వలేనిదానిని తాను ఓర్వలేకపోవుటవలన ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీదనుండి నా కోపము మళ్లించెను గనుక నేను ఓర్వలేకయుండియు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను నశింపజేయలేదు.

11. 'In my anger, I would have wiped out the Israelites if Phinehas had not been faithful to me.

12. కాబట్టి నీవు అతనితో ఇట్లనుము అతనితో నేను నా సమాధాన నిబంధనను చేయుచున్నాను.

12. But instead of punishing them, I forgave them. So because of the loyalty that Phinehas showed, I solemnly promise that he and his descendants will always be my priests.'

13. అది నిత్యమైన యాజక నిబంధనగా అతనికిని అతని సంతానమునకును కలిగియుండును; ఏలయనగా అతడు తన దేవుని విషయమందు ఆసక్తిగలవాడై ఇశ్రా యేలీయుల నిమిత్తము ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము చేసెను.

14. చంప బడిన వాని పేరు జిమీ, అతడు షిమ్యోనీయులలో తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకు ప్రధానియైన సాలూ కుమారుడు.

14. The Israelite man that was killed was Zimri son of Salu, who was one of the leaders of the Simeon tribe.

15. చంపబడిన స్త్రీ పేరు కొజ్బీ, ఆమె సూరు కుమార్తె. అతడు మిద్యానీయులలో ఒక గోత్రమునకును తన పితరుల కుటుంబమునకును ప్రధానియై యుండెను.

15. And the Midianite woman killed with him was Cozbi, the daughter of a Midianite clan leader named Zur.

16. మరియు యెహోవా మోషేకు ఈలాగు సెలవిచ్చెను మిద్యానీయులు తమ తంత్రములవలన మీకు బాధకులై యున్నారు; వారిని బాధపెట్టి హతము చేయుడి;

16. The LORD told Moses,

17. వారు తంత్రములు చేసి పెయోరు సంతతిలోను,

17. 'The Midianites are now enemies of Israel, so attack and defeat them! They tricked the people of Israel into worshiping their god at Peor, and they are responsible for the death of Cozbi, the daughter of one of their own leaders.'

18. తెగులు దిన మందు పెయోరు విషయములో చంపబడిన తమ సహో దరియు మిద్యానీయుల అధిపతి కుమార్తెయునైన కొజ్బీ సంగతిలోను, మిమ్మును మోసపుచ్చిరి.
