1. తరువాత ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు సాగి యెరికోకు ఎదురుగా యొర్దాను తీరముననున్న మోయాబు మైదానములలో దిగిరి.

1. Then did the sons of Israel break up, and encamp in the waste plains of Moab, on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho.

2. సిప్పోరు కుమారుడైన బాలాకు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు అమోరీయులకు చేసినదంతయు చూచెను.

2. And Balak son of Zipper saw all that Israel had done unto the Amorites;

3. జనము విస్తారముగా నున్నందున మోయాబీయులు వారిని చూచి మిక్కిలి భయపడిరి; మోయాబీయులు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు జంకిరి.

3. and Moab shrank with great fear from the presence of the people because, many, they were, and Moab was alarmed at the presence of the sons of Israel.

4. మోయాబీయులు మిద్యాను పెద్దలతో ఎద్దు బీటి పచ్చికను నాకివేయునట్లు ఈ జనసమూహము మన చుట్టు ఉన్నది యావత్తును ఇప్పుడు నాకివేయు ననిరి. ఆ కాలమందు సిప్పోరు కుమారుడైన బాలాకు మోయాబీయులకు రాజు.

4. So Moab said unto the elders of Midian Now, shall the gathered host lick up all that are round about us, as the ox doth lick up the verdure of the field. But, Balak son of Zippor, was king unto Moab at that time.

5. కాబట్టి అతడు బెయోరు కుమారుడైన బిలామును పిలుచుటకు అతని జనుల దేశమందలి నదియొద్దనున్న పెతోరుకు దూతలచేత ఈ వర్తమానము పంపెను చిత్తగించుము; ఒక జనము ఐగుప్తులోనుండి వచ్చెను; ఇదిగో వారు భూతలమును కప్పి నా యెదుట దిగియున్నారు.

5. So he sent messengers unto Balaam son of Boor, to Pethor which was by the river of the land of the sons of his people to call him, saying Lo! a people, hath come forth out of Egypt Lo! he hath covered the eye of the land, Yea he, is tarrying over against me.

6. కాబట్టి నీవు దయచేసి వచ్చి నా నిమిత్తము ఈ జనమును శపించుము; వారు నాకంటె బలవంతులు; వారిని హతము చేయుటకు నేను బలమొందుదునేమో; అప్పుడు నేను ఈ దేశములోనుండి వారిని తోలివేయుదును; ఏలయనగా నీవు దీవించువాడు దీవింపబడుననియు శపించువాడు శపించబడుననియు నేనెరుగుదును.

6. Now, therefore, do come, I pray thee curse me this people. For stronger, he is than I, If peradventure I prevail, we shall smite him, That I may drive him out of the land, For I know that, he whom thou dost bless, is to be blessed, And the whom thou dost curse, is to be cursed.

7. కాబట్టి మోయాబు పెద్దలును మిద్యాను పెద్దలును సోదె సొమ్మును చేత పట్టుకొని బిలామునొద్దకు వచ్చి బాలాకు మాటలను అతనితో చెప్పగా

7. And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went their way, with the rewards of divination in their hand, so they came in unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.

8. అతడు వారితోయీ రాత్రి ఇక్కడనే ఉండుడి; యెహోవా నాకు సెలవిచ్చిన మాటలను నేను తిరిగి వచ్చి మీతో చెప్పెదననెను. అప్పుడు మోయాబు అధికారులు బిలాము నొద్ద బసచేసిరి.

8. And he said unto them Tarry ye here for the night, and I will bring you back word, as Yahweh shall speak unto me. So the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.

9. దేవుడు బిలామునొద్దకు వచ్చినీ యొద్దనున్న యీ మనుష్యులు ఎవరని అడుగగా

9. And God came in unto Balaam, and said, Who are these men with thee?

10. బిలాము దేవునితో యిట్లనెనుసిప్పోరు కుమారుడైన బాలాకను మోయాబు రాజు

10. Then said Balaam unto God, Balak, son of Zipper king of Moab, hath sent unto me:

11. చిత్తగించుము; ఒక జనము ఐగుప్తునుండి బయలుదేరి వచ్చెను; వారు భూతల మును కప్పుచున్నారు; నీవు ఇప్పుడేవచ్చి నా నిమిత్తము వారిని శపింపుము; నేను వారితో యుద్ధముచేసి వారిని తోలివేయుదునేమో అని వీరిచేత నాకు వర్తమానము పంపెను.

11. Lo! the people that hath come forth out of Egypt he covereth the eye of the land. Now, do come, do revile me him, Peradventure I shall prevail in making war with him, And shall drive him out.

12. అందుకు దేవుడు నీవు వారితో వెళ్లకూడదు, ఆ ప్రజలను శపింపకూడదు, వారు ఆశీర్వదింపబడినవారు అని బిలాముతో చెప్పెను.

12. And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them, Thou shalt not curse the people, For blessed, he is.

13. కాబట్టి బిలాము ఉదయమున లేచి బాలాకు అధికారులతోమీరు మీ స్వదేశమునకు వెళ్లుడి; మీతో కూడ వచ్చుటకు యెహోవా నాకు సెలవియ్యనని చెప్పుచున్నాడనగా

13. And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your own land, For Yahweh hath refused to let me go with you.

14. మోయాబు అధికారులు లేచి బాలాకు నొద్దకు వెళ్లిబిలాము మాతో కూడ రానొల్లడాయెననిరి.

14. So the princes of Moab arose, and came in unto Balak, and said, Balaam refused to come with us.

15. అయినను బాలాకు వారి కంటె బహు ఘనతవహించిన మరి యెక్కువ మంది అధికారులను మరల పంపెను.

15. Then added Balak again, to send princes, more and weightier than these.

16. వారు బిలామునొద్దకు వచ్చి అతనితోనీవు దయచేసి నాయొద్దకు వచ్చుటకు ఏమియు అడ్డము చెప్పకుము.

16. And they came in unto Balaam, and said unto him Thus, said Balak son of Zipper, Do not be withheld, I pray thee from coming unto me:

17. నేను నీకు బహు ఘనత కలుగజేసెదను; నీవు నాతో ఏమి చెప్పుదువో అది చేసెదను గనుక నీవు దయచేసి వచ్చి, నా నిమిత్తము ఈ జనమును శపించుమని సిప్పోరు కుమారుడైన బాలాకు చెప్పెననిరి.

17. For I will honour, thee, exceedingly, and all that thou shalt say unto me, will I do. Do come therefore I pray thee oh revile me this people.

18. అందుకు బిలాముబాలాకు తన యింటెడు వెండి బంగారములను నాకిచ్చినను కొద్దిపనినైనను గొప్పపనినైనను చేయునట్లు నేను నా దేవుడైన యెహోవా నోటిమాట మీరలేను.

18. And Balaam responded and said unto the servants of Balak, Though Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the bidding of Yahweh my God, to do less or more.

19. కాబట్టి మీరు దయచేసి యీ రాత్రి ఇక్కడ నుండుడి; యెహోవా నాతో నిక నేమి చెప్పునో నేను తెలిసికొందునని బాలాకు సేవకులకు ఉత్తరమిచ్చెను.

19. Now, therefore abide here, I pray you even ye, for the night, that I may get to know what further Yahweh may be speaking with me.

20. ఆ రాత్రి దేవుడు బిలామునొద్దకు వచ్చి ఆ మనుష్యులు నిన్ను పిలువ వచ్చినయెడల నీవు లేచి వారితో వెళ్లుము; అయితే నేను నీతో చెప్పిన మాటచొప్పుననే నీవు చేయవలెనని అతనికి సెలవిచ్చెను.

20. And God came in unto Balaam, by night, and said unto him If, to call thee, the men have come in, arise go with them, But only, the thing that I shall speak unto thee, that, shalt thou do.

21. ఉదయమున బిలాము లేచి తన గాడిదకు గంత కట్టి మోయాబు అధికారులతో కూడ వెళ్లెను.

21. So Balaam arose in the morning, and sad-dled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.

22. అతడు వెళ్లుచుండగా దేవుని కోపము రగులుకొనెను; యెహోవా దూత అతనికి విరోధియై త్రోవలో నిలిచెను. అతడు తన గాడిదనెక్కి పోవుచుండగా అతని పనివారు ఇద్దరు అతనితోకూడ నుండిరి.

22. Then kindled the anger of God, because he was going, and the messenger of Yahweh stationed himself in the way, to withstand him, as he was riding upon his ass, his two young men being with him.

23. యెహోవా దూత ఖడ్గము దూసి చేత పట్టుకొని త్రోవలో నిలిచి యుండుట ఆ గాడిద చూచెను గనుక అది త్రోవను విడిచి పొలములోనికి పోయెను. బిలాము గాడిదను దారికి మలుపవలెనని దాని కొట్టగా

23. And the ass saw the messenger of Yahweh stationed in the road with his drawn sword in his hand, so the ass turned aside out of the road and went into the field, and Balaam smote the ass, to make her turn back into the road.

24. యెహోవా దూత యిరుప్రక్కలను గోడలుగల ద్రాక్షతోటల సందులో నిలిచెను.

24. But the messenger of Yahweh took his stand, in a hollow pass of the vineyards, with a fence on this side, and a fence on that side.

25. గాడిద యెహోవా దూతను చూచి గోడమీద పడి బిలాము కాలును గోడకు అదిమెను గనుక అతడు దాని మరల కొట్టెను.

25. And when the ass saw the messenger of Yahweh, she squeezed herself against the wall, and squeezed the foot of Balaam against the wall, and again he smote her.

26. యెహోవా దూత ముందు వెళ్లుచు కుడికైనను ఎడమకైనను తిరుగుటకు దారిలేని యిరుకు చోటను నిలువగా

26. And the messenger of Yahweh went on further, and took his stand in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn to the right hand or to the left.

27. గాడిద యెహోవా దూతను చూచి బిలాముతోకూడ క్రింద కూలబడెను గనుక బిలాము కోపముమండి తన చేతి కఱ్ఱతో గాడిదను కొట్టెను.

27. And, when the ass saw the messenger of Yahweh, she sank down under Balaam, then was Balaam's anger kindled, and he smote the ass with the staff.

28. అప్పుడు యెహోవా ఆ గాడిదకు వాక్కు నిచ్చెను గనుక అది నీవు నన్ను ముమ్మారు కొట్టితివి; నేను నిన్నేమి చేసితినని బిలాముతో అనగా

28. And Yahweh opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam What have I done to thee, that thou hast smitten me, these three times?

29. బిలాము నీవు నామీద తిరుగబడితివి; నాచేత ఖడ్గమున్న యెడల నిన్ను చంపియుందునని గాడిదతో అనెను.

29. And Balaam said unto the ass, Surely thou hast been making sport of me, Would there had been a sword in my hand, for, now, would I have slain thee.

30. అందుకు గాడిద నేను నీదాననైనది మొదలుకొని నేటివరకు నీవు ఎక్కుచు వచ్చిన నీ గాడిదను కానా? నేనెప్పుడైన నీకిట్లు చేయుట కద్దా? అని బిలాముతో అనగా అతడులేదనెను.

30. Then said the ass unto Balaam Am not I thine own ass on which thou hast ridden all thy life, until this day? Have I, been wont, to do unto thee, thus? And he said, Nay!

31. అంతలో యెహోవా బిలాము కన్నులు తెరచెను గనుక, దూసిన ఖడ్గము చేతపట్టుకొని త్రోవలో నిలిచియున్న యెహోవా దూతను అతడు చూచి తల వంచి సాష్టాంగ నమస్కారము చేయగా

31. Then did Yahweh unveil the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the messenger of Yahweh stationed in the road, with his sword drawn in his hand, so he bent his head and bowed down before him.

32. యెహోవా దూత యీ ముమ్మారు నీ గాడిదను నీవేల కొట్టితివి? ఇదిగో నా యెదుట నీ నడత విపరీతమైనది గనుక నేను నీకు విరోధినై బయలుదేరి వచ్చితిని.

32. And the messenger of Yahweh said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass, these three times? Lo! I, myself, am come forth to withstand thee, because headlong was thy way before me.

33. ఆ గాడిద నన్ను చూచి యీ ముమ్మారు నా యెదుట నుండి తొలిగెను; అది నా యెదుట నుండి తొలగని యెడల నిశ్చయముగా నేనప్పుడే నిన్ను చంపి దాని ప్రాణమును రక్షించి యుందునని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

33. And the ass hath seen me, and hath turned aside at ray presence these three times: Unless she had turned aside from my presence, yea now even thee, had I slain, but, her, had I suffered to live.

34. అందుకు బిలాము నేను పాపముచేసితిని; నీవు నాకు ఎదురుగా త్రోవలో నిలుచుట నాకు తెలిసినది కాదు. కాబట్టి యీ పని నీ దృష్టికి చెడ్డదైతే నేను వెనుకకు వెళ్లెదనని యెహోవా దూతతో చెప్పగా

34. Then said Balaam unto the messenger of Yahweh I have sinned, for I knew not, that, thou, wast stationed to meet me in the road, Now, therefore, if it be displeasing in thine eyes, I must get me back again.

35. యెహోవా దూత నీవు ఆ మనుష్యులతో కూడ వెళ్లుము. అయితే నేను నీతో చెప్పు మాటయేకాని మరేమియు పలుకకూడదని బిలాముతో చెప్పెను. అప్పుడు బిలాము బాలాకు అధికారులతో కూడ వెళ్లెను.

35. And the messenger of Yahweh said unto Balaam Go with the men: Only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that, shalt thou speak. So Balaam went his way with the princes of Balak.

36. బిలాము వచ్చెనని బాలాకు విని, ఆ పొలిమేరల చివరనున్న అర్నోను తీరమునందలి మోయాబు పట్టణమువరకు అతనిని ఎదుర్కొన బయలువెళ్లగా

36. And Balak heard that Balaam, was coming, so he went forth to meet him unto a city of Moab which was upon the boundary of Arnon, which was in the utmost part of the boundary.

37. బాలాకు బిలాముతో నిన్ను పిలుచుటకు నేను నీయొద్దకు దూతలను పంపియుంటిని గదా. నాయొద్దకు నీవేల రాకపోతివి? నిన్ను ఘనపరచ సమర్థుడను కానా? అనెను.

37. And Balak said unto Balaam: Did I not, send, unto thee, to call thee? Wherefore didst thou not come unto me? Am I not in very deed, able to honour thee?

38. అందుకు బిలాము ఇదిగో నీయొద్దకు వచ్చితిని; అయిన నేమి? ఏదైనను చెప్పుటకు నాకు శక్తి కలదా? దేవుడు నా నోట పలికించు మాటయే పలికెదనని బాలాకుతో చెప్పెను.

38. And Balaam said unto Balak Lo! I am come unto thee, Now, can, I, possibly, promise any-thing? The word that God shall put in my mouth, that, must I speak.

39. అప్పుడు బిలాము బాలాకుతో కూడ వెళ్లెను. వారు కిర్యత్‌ హుచ్చోతుకు వచ్చినప్పుడు

39. So Balaam went with Balak, and they entered Kiriath-huzoth.

40. బాలాకు ఎడ్లను గొఱ్ఱెలను బలిగా అర్పించి, కొంతభాగము బిలాముకును అతని యొద్దనున్న అధికారులకును పంపెను.

40. And Balak sacrificed herd and flock, and sent unto Balaam, and unto the princes that were with him.

41. మరునాడు బాలాకు బిలామును తోడు కొనిపోయి, బయలు యొక్క ఉన్నత స్థలములమీదనుండి జనులను చివరవరకు చూడవలెనని అతనిని అచ్చోట ఎక్కించెను.

41. And it came to pass in the morning, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up the high places of Baal, and he saw from thence the utmost part of the people.
