1. నా కుమారుడా, నీ చెలికానికొరకు పూటపడిన యెడల పరునిచేతిలో నీవు నీ చేయి వేసినయెడల

1. My son! if thou hast been surety for thy friend, Hast stricken for a stranger thy hand,

2. నీ నోటి మాటలవలన నీవు చిక్కుబడియున్నావు నీ నోటి మాటలవలన పట్టబడియున్నావు

2. Hast been snared with sayings of thy mouth, Hast been captured with sayings of thy mouth,

3. నా కుమారుడా, నీ చెలికానిచేత చిక్కుబడితివి. నీవు త్వరపడి వెళ్లి విడిచిపెట్టుమని నీ చెలికానిని బలవంతము చేయుము.

3. Do this now, my son, and be delivered, For thou hast come into the hand of thy friend. Go, trample on thyself, and strengthen thy friend,

4. ఈలాగు చేసి తప్పించుకొనుము నీ కన్నులకు నిద్రయైనను నీ కనురెప్పలకు కునుకుపాటైనను రానియ్యకుము.

4. Give not sleep to thine eyes, And slumber to thine eyelids,

5. వేటకాని చేతినుండి లేడి తప్పించుకొనునట్లును ఎరుకువాని చేతినుండి పక్షి తప్పించుకొనునట్లును తప్పించుకొనుము.

5. Be delivered as a roe from the hand, And as a bird from the hand of a fowler.

6. సోమరీ, చీమలయొద్దకు వెళ్లుము వాటి నడతలు కనిపెట్టి జ్ఞానము తెచ్చుకొనుము.

6. Go unto the ant, O slothful one, See her ways and be wise;

7. వాటికి న్యాయాధిపతి లేకున్నను పై విచారణకర్త లేకున్నను అధిపతి లేకున్నను

7. Which hath not captain, overseer, and ruler,

8. అవి వేసవికాలమందు ఆహారము సిద్ధపరచుకొనును కోతకాలమందు ధాన్యము కూర్చుకొనును.

8. She doth prepare in summer her bread, She hath gathered in harvest her food.

9. సోమరీ, ఎందాక నీవు పండుకొనియుందువు? ఎప్పుడు నిద్రలేచెదవు?

9. Till when, O slothful one, dost thou lie? When dost thou arise from thy sleep?

10. ఇక కొంచెము నిద్రించెదనని కొంచెము కునికెదనని కొంచెముసేపు చేతులు ముడుచుకొని పరుండెదనని నీవనుచుందువు

10. A little sleep, a little slumber, A little clasping of the hands to rest,

11. అందుచేత దోపిడిగాడు వచ్చునట్లు దారిద్ర్యము నీయొద్దకు వచ్చును. ఆయుధధారుడు వచ్చునట్లు లేమి నీయొద్దకు వచ్చును.

11. And thy poverty hath come as a traveller, And thy want as an armed man.

12. కుటిలమైన మాటలు పలుకువాడు పనికిమాలినవాడును దుష్టుడునై యున్నాడు

12. A man of worthlessness, a man of iniquity, Walking [with] perverseness of mouth,

13. వాడు కన్ను గీటుచు కాళ్లతో సైగచేయును వ్రేళ్లతో గురుతులు చూపును.

13. Winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, Directing with his fingers,

14. వాని హృదయము అతిమూర్ఖ స్వభావముగలది వాడెల్లప్పుడు కీడు కల్పించుచు జగడములు పుట్టించును.

14. Frowardness [is] in his heart, devising evil at all times, Contentions he sendeth forth.

15. కాబట్టి ఆపద వానిమీదికి హఠాత్తుగా వచ్చును వాడు తిరుగలేకుండ ఆ క్షణమందే నలుగగొట్టబడును.

15. Therefore suddenly cometh his calamity, Instantly he is broken -- and no healing.

16. యెహోవాకు అసహ్యములైనవి ఆరు గలవు ఏడును ఆయనకు హేయములు

16. These six hath Jehovah hated, Yea, seven [are] abominations to His soul.

17. అవేవనగా, అహంకారదృష్టియు కల్లలాడు నాలుకయు నిరపరాధులను చంపు చేతులును

17. Eyes high -- tongues false -- And hands shedding innocent blood --

18. దుర్యోచనలు యోచించు హృదయమును కీడు చేయుటకు త్వరపడి పరుగులెత్తు పాదములును

18. A heart devising thoughts of vanity -- Feet hasting to run to evil --

19. లేనివాటిని పలుకు అబద్ధసాక్షియు అన్నదమ్ములలో జగడములు పుట్టించువాడును.

19. A false witness [who] doth breathe out lies -- And one sending forth contentions between brethren.

20. నా కుమారుడా, నీ తండ్రి ఆజ్ఞను గైకొనుము నీ తల్లి ఉపదేశమును త్రోసివేయకుము.

20. Keep, my son, the command of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother.

21. వాటిని ఎల్లప్పుడు నీ హృదయమునందు ధరించు కొనుము నీ మెడచుట్టు వాటిని కట్టుకొనుము.

21. Bind them on thy heart continually, Tie them on thy neck.

22. నీవు త్రోవను వెళ్లునప్పుడు అది నిన్ను నడిపించును నీవు పండుకొనునప్పుడు అది నిన్ను కాపాడును. నీవు మేలుకొనునప్పుడు అది నీతో ముచ్చటించును.

22. In thy going up and down, it leadeth thee, In thy lying down, it watcheth over thee, And thou hast awaked -- it talketh [with] thee.

23. ఆజ్ఞ దీపముగాను ఉపదేశము వెలుగుగాను ఉండును. శిక్షార్థమైన గద్దింపులు జీవమార్గములు.

23. For a lamp [is] the command, And the law a light, And a way of life [are] reproofs of instruction,

24. చెడు స్త్రీయొద్దకు పోకుండను పరస్త్రీ పలుకు ఇచ్చకపు మాటలకు లోబడకుండను అవి నిన్ను కాపాడును.

24. To preserve thee from an evil woman, From the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25. దాని చక్కదనమునందు నీ హృదయములో ఆశపడకుము అది తన కనురెప్పలను చికిలించి నిన్ను లోపరచుకొన నియ్యకుము.

25. Desire not her beauty in thy heart, And let her not take thee with her eyelids.

26. వేశ్యాసాంగత్యము చేయువానికి రొట్టెతునక మాత్రము మిగిలియుండును. మగనాలు మిక్కిలి విలువగల ప్రాణమును వేటాడును.

26. For a harlot consumeth unto a cake of bread, And an adulteress the precious soul hunteth.

27. ఒకడు తన ఒడిలో అగ్ని నుంచుకొనినయెడల వాని వస్త్రములు కాలకుండునా?

27. Doth a man take fire into his bosom, And are his garments not burnt?

28. ఒకడు నిప్పులమీద నడిచినయెడల వాని పాదములు కమలకుండునా?

28. Doth a man walk on the hot coals, And are his feet not scorched?

29. తన పొరుగువాని భార్యను కూడువాడు ఆ ప్రకారమే నాశనమగును ఆమెను ముట్టువాడు శిక్ష తప్పించుకొనడు.

29. So [is] he who hath gone in unto the wife of his neighbour, None who doth touch her is innocent.

30. దొంగ ఆకలిగొని ప్రాణరక్షణకొరకు దొంగిలిన యెడల యెవరును వాని తిరస్కరింపరు గదా.

30. They do not despise the thief, When he stealeth to fill his soul when he is hungry,

31. వాడు దొరికినయెడల ఏడంతలు చెల్లింపవలెను తన యింటి ఆస్తి అంతయు అప్పగింపవలెను.

31. And being found he repayeth sevenfold, All the substance of his house he giveth.

32. జారత్వము జరిగించువాడు కేవలము బుద్ధిశూన్యుడు ఆ కార్యము చేయువాడు స్వనాశనమును కోరువాడే

32. He who committeth adultery [with] a woman lacketh heart, He is destroying his soul who doth it.

33. వాడు దెబ్బలకును అవమానమునకును పాత్రుడగును వానికి కలుగు అపకీర్తి యెన్నటికిని తొలగిపోదు.

33. A stroke and shame he doth find, And his reproach is not wiped away,

34. భర్తకు పుట్టు రోషము మహా రౌద్రముగలది ప్రతికారము చేయు కాలమందు అట్టివాడు కనికరపడడు.

34. For jealousy [is] the fury of a man, And he doth not spare in a day of vengeance.

35. ప్రాయశ్చిత్తమేమైన నీవు చేసినను వాడు లక్ష్యపెట్టడు ఎంత గొప్ప బహుమానములు నీవిచ్చినను వాడు ఒప్పుకొనడు.

35. He accepteth not the appearance of any atonement, Yea, he doth not consent, Though thou dost multiply bribes!
