1. తరువాత సాతాను ఇశ్రాయేలునకు విరోధముగా లేచి, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను లెక్కించుటకు దావీదును ప్రేరేపింపగా

1. The Adversary now rose up against Isra'el and incited David to take a census of Isra'el.

2. దావీదు యోవాబునకును జనులయొక్క అధి పతులకునుమీరు వెళ్లి బెయేర్షెబా మొదలుకొని దాను వరకు ఉండు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను ఎంచి, వారి సంఖ్య నాకు తెలియుటకై నాయొద్దకు దాని తీసికొని రండని ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

2. David said to Yo'av and the leaders of the people, 'Go, take a census of Isra'el from Be'er-Sheva to Dan; then report to me, so that I can know how many of them there are.'

3. అందుకు యోవాబురాజా నా యేలిన వాడా, యెహోవా తన జనులను ఇప్పుడున్నవారికంటె నూరంతలు ఎక్కువమందిని చేయునుగాక;వారందరు నా యేలినవాని దాసులుకారా? నా యేలినవానికి ఈ విచారణ యేల? ఇది జరుగవలసిన హేతువేమి? జరిగినయెడల ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు శిక్ష కలుగును అని మనవిచేసెను.

3. Yo'av said, 'May ADONAI make his people a hundred times as many as they are now! But, my lord the king, aren't they all my lord's servants in any case? Why does my lord the king require this? Why should he bring guilt upon Isra'el?'

4. అయినను యోవాబు మాట చెల్లక రాజు మాటయే చెల్లెను గనుక యోవాబు ఇశ్రాయేలు దేశమందంతట సంచరించి తిరిగి యెరూషలేమునకు వచ్చి జనుల సంఖ్య వెరసి దావీదునకు అప్పగించెను.

4. Nevertheless, the king's word prevailed against Yo'av. So Yo'av left and went through all Isra'el, after which he came to Yerushalayim.

5. ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరిలో కత్తి దూయువారు పదకొండు లక్షల మందియు యూదా వారిలో కత్తి దూయువారు నాలుగు లక్షల డెబ్బదివేల మందియు సంఖ్యకు వచ్చిరి.

5. Yo'av reported the results of the census to David: in Isra'el were 1,100,000 men who could handle a sword, while Y'hudah had 470,000 men who could handle a sword.

6. రాజు మాట యోవాబునకు అసహ్యముగా ఉండెను గనుక అతడు లేవి బెన్యామీను గోత్ర సంబంధులను ఆ సంఖ్యలో చేర్చలేదు.

6. But he didn't count Levi and Binyamin among them, because the king's order was hateful to Yo'av.

7. ఈ కార్యము దేవుని దృష్టికి ప్రతికూలమగుటచేత ఆయన ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను బాధపెట్టెను.

7. God was displeased with this and therefore punished Isra'el.

8. దావీదునేను ఈ కార్యముచేసి అధిక పాపము తెచ్చుకొంటిని, నేను మిక్కిలి అవివేకముగా ప్రవర్తించితిని, ఇప్పుడు నీ దాసుని దోషము పరిహరించుమని దేవునితో మొఱ్ఱపెట్టగా

8. David said to God, 'I have greatly sinned by doing this. But now, please! Put aside your servant's sin, for I have done a very foolish thing.'

9. యెహోవా దావీదునకు దర్శకుడగు గాదుతో ఈలాగు సెలవిచ్చెనునీవు వెళ్లి దావీ దుతో ఇట్లనుము.

9. ADONAI spoke to Gad, David's seer:

10. యెహోవా సెలవిచ్చునదేమనగామూడు విషయములు నేను నీయెదుట నుంచుచున్నాను, వాటిలో ఒకదానిని నీవు కోరుకొనినయెడల దాని నీకు చేయుదును.

10. 'Go and tell David that ADONAI says, 'I am offering you a choice of three punishments: choose one of them, and I will execute it against you.''

11. కావున గాదు దావీదు నొద్దకు వచ్చి యిట్లనెను

11. Gad came to David and said to him, 'Take your choice:

12. మూడేండ్ల పాటు కరవు కలుగుట, మూడు నెలలపాటు నీ శత్రువులు కత్తిదూసి నిన్ను తరుమగా నీవు వారియెదుట నిలువ లేక నశించిపోవుట, మూడు దినములపాటు దేశమందు యెహోవా కత్తి, అనగా తెగులు నిలుచుటచేత యెహోవా దూత ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల దేశమందంతట నాశనము కలుగజేయుట, అను వీటిలో ఒకదానిని నీవు కోరుకొనుమని యెహోవా సెలవిచ్చుచున్నాడు; కావున నన్ను పంపిన వానికి నేను ఏమి ప్రత్యుత్తరమియ్యవలెనో దాని యోచించుము.

12. three years of famine; or three months of being swept away by your enemies, while your enemies' sword overwhelms you; or three days of ADONAI's sword- plague in the land, with the angel of ADONAI destroying everywhere in Isra'el's territory. Now think about what answer I should give to the one who sent me.'

13. అందుకు దావీదునేను మిక్కిలి యిరుకులో చిక్కియున్నాను; యెహోవా మహా కృపగలవాడు, నేను మనుష్యులచేతిలో పడక ఆయన చేతిలోనే పడుదును గాక అని గాదుతో అనెను.

13. David said to Gad, 'This is very hard for me. Let me fall into the hand of ADONAI, because his mercies are very great, rather than have me fall into the hand of man.'

14. కావున యెహోవా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులమీదికి తెగులు పంపగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులలో డెబ్బదివేలమంది చచ్చిరి.

14. So ADONAI sent a plague on Isra'el; 70,000 of the people of Isra'el died.

15. యెరూషలే మును నాశనము చేయుటకై దేవుడు ఒక దూతను పంపెను; అతడు నాశనము చేయబోవుచుండగా యెహోవా చూచి ఆ చేటు విషయమై సంతాపమొంది నాశనముచేయు దూతతోచాలును, ఇప్పుడు నీ చెయ్యి ఆపుమని సెల వియ్యగా ఆ దూత యెబూసీయుడైన ఒర్నాను కళ్లమునొద్ద నిలిచెను.

15. God also sent an angel to destroy Yerushalayim, but when he was about to carry out the destruction, ADONAI saw it and changed his mind about causing such distress; so he said to the destroying angel, 'Enough! Now withdraw your hand.' The angel of ADONAI was standing at the threshing-floor of Ornan the Y'vusi.

16. దావీదు కన్నులెత్తి చూడగా, భూమ్యా కాశముల మధ్యను నిలుచుచు, వరదీసిన కత్తిచేత పట్టుకొని దానిని యెరూషలేముమీద చాపిన యెహోవా దూత కనబడెను. అప్పుడు దావీదును పెద్దలును గోనె పట్టలు కప్పుకొనినవారై సాష్టాంగపడగా

16. David raised his eyes and saw the angel of ADONAI standing between the earth and the sky, and in his hand was a drawn sword stretched out over Yerushalayim. Then David and the leaders, wearing sackcloth, fell on their faces.

17. దావీదుజనులను ఎంచుమని ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చినవాడను నేనేగదా? పాపము చేసి చెడుతనము జరిగించినవాడను నేనేగదా? గొఱ్ఱెలవంటివారగు వీరేమి చేసిరి? నా దేవుడవైన యెహోవా, బాధపెట్టు నీ చెయ్యి నీ జనులమీద నుండ కుండ నామీదను నా తండ్రి యింటివారిమీదను ఉండ నిమ్మని దేవునితో మనవిచేసెను.

17. David said to God, 'Wasn't it I who ordered the census of the people? Yes, I am the one who has sinned and done something very wicked. But these sheep, what have they done? Please! Let your hand be against me and my father's family, but not against your people, striking them with this plague!'

18. యెబూసీయుడైన ఒర్నాను కళ్లమునందు యెహోవాకు ఒక బలిపీఠమును కట్టించుటకై దావీదు అచ్చటికి వెళ్లవలెనని దావీదునకు ఆజ్ఞ నిమ్మని యెహోవా దూత గాదునకు సెలవియ్యగా

18. Then the angel of ADONAI ordered Gad to tell David to go and set up an altar to ADONAI on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Y'vusi.

19. యెహోవా నామమున గాదు పలికిన మాట ప్రకారము దావీదు వెళ్లెను.

19. David went up at Gad's word, spoken in ADONAI's name.

20. ఒర్నాను అప్పుడు గోధుమలను నూర్చు చుండెను; అతడు వెనుకకు తిరిగి దూతను చూచినప్పుడు, అతడును అతనితో కూడనున్న అతని నలుగురు కుమారు లును దాగుకొనిరి.

20. Ornan turned back and saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. As Ornan was threshing wheat,

21. దావీదు ఒర్నానునొద్దకు వచ్చినప్పుడు ఒర్నాను దావీదును చూచి, కళ్లములోనుండి వెలుపలికి వచ్చి, తల నేల మట్టునకు వంచి దావీదుకు నమస్కారము చేసెను.

21. David approached Ornan. When Ornan looked and saw David, he went out from the threshing-floor and prostrated himself before David with his face to the ground.

22. ఈ తెగులు జనులను విడిచిపోవునట్లుగా ఈ కళ్లపు ప్రదేశమందు నేను యెహోవాకు ఒక బలిపీఠమును కట్టించుటకై దాని నాకు తగిన క్రయమునకిమ్మని దావీదు ఒర్నానుతో అనగా

22. Then David said to Ornan, 'Let me have the parcel with this threshing-floor, so that I can build on it an altar to ADONAI- I will pay you its full value- so that the plague will be lifted from the people.'

23. ఒర్నానురాజైన నా యేలినవాడు దాని తీసికొని తన దృష్టికి అనుకూలమైనట్టు చేయును గాక; ఇదిగో దహనబలులకు ఎద్దులు కట్టెలకై నురిపిడి సామగ్రి నైవేద్యమునకు గోధుమ పిండి; ఇదియంతయు నేనిచ్చెదనని దావీదుతో అనెను.

23. Ornan said to David, 'Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do what seems good to him. I'm giving you the oxen for the burnt offerings, the threshing-sledges for firewood and the wheat for the grain offering- I'm giving it all.'

24. రాజైన దావీదు అట్లు కాదు, నేను నీ సొత్తును ఊరక తీసికొని యెహోవాకు దహనబలులను అర్పించను, న్యాయమైన క్రయధనమిచ్చి దాని తీసికొందునని ఒర్నానుతో చెప్పి

24. But King David said to Ornan, 'No; I insist on buying it from you at the full price. I refuse to take what is yours for ADONAI or offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.'

25. ఆ భూమికి ఆరువందల తులముల బంగారమును అతని కిచ్చెను.

25. So David bought the place from Ornan for 600 [shekel]s of gold by weight [[fifteen pounds]].

26. పిమ్మటదావీదు యెహోవాకు అచ్చట ఒక బలిపీఠమును కట్టించి. దహనబలులను సమాధాన బలులను అర్పించి యెహోవాకు మొఱ్ఱపెట్టగా ఆయన ఆకాశములోనుండి దహనబలిపీఠము మీదికి అగ్నివలన అతనికి ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను.

26. Then David built an altar to ADONAI there and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called on ADONAI, who answered him from heaven by fire on the altar for burnt offerings.

27. యెహోవా దూతకు ఆజ్ఞాపింపగా అతడు తన కత్తిని మరల వరలో వేసెను.

27. ADONAI gave an order to the angel, and he put his sword back in its sheath.

28. యెబూసీయుడైన ఒర్నాను కళ్లమందు యెహోవా తనకు ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెనని దావీదు తెలిసికొని అచ్చటనే బలి అర్పించెను

28. When David saw that ADONAI had answered him at the threshing-floor of Ornan the Y'vusi, he sacrificed there.

29. మోషే అరణ్యమందు చేయించిన యెహోవా నివాసపు గుడారమును దహనబలిపీఠమును ఆ కాలమందు గిబియోనులోని ఉన్నత స్థలమందుండెను.

29. For at that time the tabernacle of ADONAI, which Moshe had made in the desert, together with the altar for burnt offerings, were in the high place at Giv'on.

30. దావీదు యెహోవాదూత పట్టుకొనిన కత్తికి భయపడినవాడై దేవునియొద్ద విచారించుటకు ఆ స్థలమునకు వెళ్ల లేకుండెను.

30. But David could not go into its presence to consult God, because the sword of the angel of ADONAI had struck him with terror.
