1. అంతట ప్రవక్తల శిష్యులు ఎలీషాయొద్దకు వచ్చిఇదిగో నీయొద్ద మాకున్న స్థలము ఇరుకుగా నున్నది;

1. The brotherhood of prophets said to Elisha, 'Look, the place where we are living with you is too small for us.

2. నీ సెలవైతే మేము యొర్దాను నదికి పోయి తలయొక మ్రాను అచ్చటనుండి తెచ్చుకొని మరియొకచోట నివాసము కట్టుకొందుమని మనవి చేయగా అతడువెళ్లుడని ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను.

2. Let us go to the Jordan, then, and each of us cut a beam there, and we will make our living quarters there.' He replied, 'Go.'

3. ఒకడుదయచేసి నీ దాసులమైన మాతో కూడ నీవు రావలెనని కోరగా అతడునేను వచ్చెదనని చెప్పి

3. 'Be good enough to go with your servants,' one of them said. 'I will go,' he replied,

4. వారితోకూడ పోయెను; వారు యొర్దానుకు వచ్చి మ్రానులు నరుకుచుండిరి.

4. and went with them. On reaching the Jordan they began cutting down timber.

5. ఒకడు దూలము నరుకుచున్నప్పుడు గొడ్డలి ఊడి నీటిలో పడి పోగా వాడు అయ్యో నా యేలినవాడా, అది యెరవుతెచ్చినదని మొఱ్ఱపెట్టెను గనుక

5. But, as one of them was felling his beam, the iron axehead fell into the water. 'Alas, my lord,' he exclaimed, 'and it was a borrowed one too!'

6. ఆ దైవజనుడు అదెక్కడపడెనని అడిగెను; వాడు అతనికి ఆ స్థలమును చూపింపగా అతడు కొమ్మయొకటి నరికి నీళ్లలో వేయగా గొడ్డలి తేలెను.

6. 'Where did it fall?' the man of God asked; and he showed him the spot. Then, cutting a stick, Elisha threw it in at that point and made the iron axehead float.

7. అతడు దానిని పట్టుకొనుమని వానితో చెప్పగా వాడు తన చెయ్యి చాపి దానిని పట్టుకొనెను.

7. 'Lift it out,' he said; and the man stretched out his hand and took it.

8. సిరియారాజు ఇశ్రాయేలుతో యుద్ధముచేయవలెనని కోరి తన సేవకులతో ఆలోచనచేసిఫలానిస్థలమందు మన దండు పేట ఉంచుదమని చెప్పెను.

8. The king of Aram was at war with Israel. He conferred with his officers and said, 'You must attack at such and such a place.'

9. అయితే ఆ దైవ జనుడు ఇశ్రాయేలురాజునకు వర్తమానము పంపిఫలాని స్థలమునకు నీవు పోవద్దు, అచ్చటికి సిరియనులు వచ్చి దిగి యున్నారని తెలియజేసెను గనుక

9. Elisha, however, sent word to the king of Israel, 'Be on your guard about such and such a place, because the Aramaeans are going to attack it.'

10. ఇశ్రాయేలురాజు దైవజనుడు తనకు తెలిపి హెచ్చరికచేసిన స్థలమునకు పంపి సంగతి తెలిసికొని తనవారిని రక్షించుకొనెను. ఈలాగు మాటిమాటికి జరుగుచు వచ్చినందున

10. The king of Israel accordingly sent men to the place which Elisha had named. And he kept warning the king, and the king stayed on the alert; and this happened more than once or twice.

11. సిరియారాజు కల్లోలపడి తన సేవకులను పిలిచిమనలో ఇశ్రాయేలు రాజు పక్షము వహించిన వారెవరైనది మాకు తెలియజెప్ప రాదా అని వారి నడుగగా

11. The king of Aram grew very much disturbed over this. He summoned his officers, and said, 'Tell me which of you is betraying us to the king of Israel.'

12. అతని సేవకులలో ఒకడురాజవైన నా యేలినవాడా, ఇశ్రాయేలురాజు పక్షమున ఎవరును లేరుగాని ఇశ్రాయేలులో నున్న ప్రవక్తయగు ఎలీషా మీ అంతఃపురమందు మీరు అనుకొనిన మాటలు ఇశ్రాయేలురాజునకు తెలియజేయుననెను.

12. 'No one, my lord king,' one of his officers replied. 'It is Elisha, the prophet in Israel. The words you utter in your bedchamber, he reveals to the king of Israel.'

13. అందుకు రాజుమేము మనుష్యులను పంపి అతని తెప్పించునట్లు నీవు వెళ్లి అతడుండు చోటు చూచి రమ్ము అని సెలవియ్యగా అతడు దోతానులో ఉన్నాడని వర్తమానము వచ్చెను.

13. 'Go and find out where he is,' the king said, 'so that I can send people to capture him.' Word was brought to him, 'He is now in Dothan.'

14. కాబట్టి రాజు అచ్చటికి గుఱ్ఱములను రథము లను గొప్పసైన్యమును పంపెను. వారు రాత్రివేళ వచ్చి నలుదిశలను పట్టణమును చుట్టుకొనగా

14. So he sent horses and chariots there, and a large force; and these, arriving during the night, surrounded the town.

15. దైవజనుడైన అతని పనివాడు పెందలకడ లేచి బయటికి వచ్చి నప్పుడు గుఱ్ఱములును రథములును గల సైన్యము పట్టణ మును చుట్టుకొని యుండుట కనబడెను. అంతట అతని పనివాడు అయ్యో నా యేలినవాడా, మనము ఏమి చేయుదమని ఆ దైవజనునితో అనగా

15. Next day, Elisha got up early and went out; and there surrounding the town was an armed force with horses and chariots. 'Oh, my lord,' his servant said, 'what are we to do?'

16. అతడుభయ పడవద్దు, మన పక్షమున నున్నవారు వారికంటె అధికులై యున్నారని చెప్పి

16. 'Do not be afraid,' he replied, 'for there are more on our side than on theirs.'

17. యెహోవా, వీడు చూచునట్లు దయచేసి వీని కండ్లను తెరువుమని ఎలీషా ప్రార్థనచేయగా యెహోవా ఆ పనివాని కండ్లను తెరవచేసెను గనుక వాడు ఎలీషాచుట్టును పర్వతము అగ్ని గుఱ్ఱములచేత రథములచేతను నిండియుండుట చూచెను.

17. And Elisha prayed. 'Yahweh,' he said, 'open his eyes and make him see.' Yahweh opened the servant's eyes, and he saw the mountain covered in fiery horses and chariots surrounding Elisha.

18. ఆ దండువారు అతని సమీపించినప్పుడు ఎలీషాఈ జనులను అంధత్వ ముతో మొత్తుమని యెహోవాను వేడుకొనగా ఆయన ఎలీషాచేసిన ప్రార్థనచొప్పున వారిని అంధత్వముతో మొత్తెను.

18. As the Aramaeans came down towards him, Elisha prayed to Yahweh, 'I beg you to strike these people sun-blind.' And, at Elisha's word, he struck them sun-blind.

19. అప్పుడు ఎలీషాఇది మార్గముకాదు, ఇది పట్టణము కాదు, మీరు నా వెంట వచ్చినయెడల మీరు వెదకువానియొద్దకు మిమ్మును తీసికొని పోదునని వారితో చెప్పి షోమ్రోను పట్టణమునకు వారిని నడిపించెను.

19. Then Elisha said to them, 'This is not the road, nor is this the town. Follow me; I shall lead you to the man you are looking for.' But he led them to Samaria.

20. వారు షోమ్రోనులోనికి వచ్చినప్పుడు అతడుయెహోవా, వీరు చూచునట్లు వీరి కండ్లను తెరువుమని ప్రార్థనచేయగా యెహోవా వారి కండ్లను తెరవచేసెను గనుక వారు తాము షోమ్రోను మధ్య ఉన్నామని తెలిసికొనిరి.

20. As they entered Samaria, Elisha said, 'Yahweh, open these people's eyes, and let them see.' Yahweh opened their eyes and they saw; they were inside Samaria.

21. అంతట ఇశ్రాయేలురాజు వారిని పారజూచినాయనా వీరిని కొట్టుదునా, కొట్టుదునా? అని ఎలీషాను అడుగగా

21. When the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, 'Shall I kill them, father?'

22. అతడునీవు వీరిని కొట్టవద్దు; నీ కత్తిచేతను నీ వింటిచేతను నీవు చెరపట్టిన వారినైనను కొట్టుదువా? వారికి భోజనము పెట్టించి వారు తిని త్రాగిన తరువాత వారు తమ యజమానుని యొద్దకు వెళ్లుదురని చెప్పెను.

22. 'Do not kill them,' he replied. 'Do you kill your own prisoners with sword and bow? Offer them food and water, so that they can eat and drink, and then let them go back to their master.'

23. అతడు వారి కొరకు విస్తారమైన భోజన పదార్థములను సిద్ధపరచగా వారు అన్నపానములు పుచ్చుకొని రాజు సెలవుపొంది తమ యజమానుని యొద్దకు పోయిరి. అప్పటినుండి సిరి యనుల దండువారు ఇశ్రాయేలు దేశములోనికి వచ్చుట మానిపోయెను.

23. So the king provided a great feast for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them off and they went back to their master. Aramaean raiding parties never invaded the territory of Israel again.

24. అటుతరువాత సిరియా రాజైన బెన్హదదు తన సైన్య మంతటిని సమకూర్చుకొని వచ్చి షోమ్రోనునకు ముట్టడి వేసెను.

24. It happened after this that Ben-Hadad king of Aram, mustering his whole army, marched on and laid siege to Samaria.

25. అప్పుడు షోమ్రోనులో గొప్ప క్షామము కలిగి యుండగా గాడిదయొక్క తల ఎనుబది రూపాయలకును, అరపావు పావురపు రెట్ట అయిదు రూపాయలకును అమ్మ బడెను; వారు అంత కఠినముగా ముట్టడి వేసియుండిరి.

25. In Samaria there was great famine, and so strict was the siege that the head of a donkey sold for eighty shekels of silver, and one quarter-kab of wild onions for five shekels of silver.

26. అంతట ఇశ్రాయేలురాజు పట్టణపు ప్రాకారముమీద సంచారముచేయగా ఒక స్త్రీ రాజును చూచిరాజవైన నా యేలినవాడా, సహాయము చేయుమని కేకలు వేయుట విని

26. Now as the king was passing along the city wall, a woman shouted, 'Help, my lord king!'

27. యెహోవా నీకు సహాయము చేయనిది నేనెక్కడ నుండి నీకు సహాయము చేయుదును? కళ్లములోనుండి యైనను ద్రాక్షగానుగలోనుండియైనను దేనినైనను ఇచ్చి సహాయముచేయ వల్లపడదని చెప్పి

27. 'If Yahweh does not help you,' he retorted, 'where can I find help for you? From the threshing-floor? From the winepress?'

28. నీ విచారమునకు కారణమేమని యడుగగా అదిఈ స్త్రీ నన్ను చూచినేటి ఆహారమునకు నీ బిడ్డను ఇమ్ము రేపు మనము నా బిడ్డను భక్షించుదుము, అని చెప్పినప్పుడు

28. Then the king asked, 'What is the matter?' 'This woman here', she answered, 'said to me, 'Give up your son; we will eat him today, and eat my son tomorrow.'

29. మేము నా బిడ్డను వంటచేసికొని తింటివిు. అయితే మరునాటియందు నేను దాని చూచినేటి ఆహారమునకు నీ బిడ్డను ఇమ్మని అడిగితిని గాని అది తన బిడ్డను దాచిపెట్టెనని చెప్పెను.

29. So we cooked my son and ate him. Next day, I said to her, 'Give up your son for us to eat.' But she has hidden her son.'

30. రాజు ఆ స్త్రీ మాటలు విని తన వస్త్రములను చింపుకొని యింక ప్రాకారముమీద నడిచి పోవుచుండగా జనులు అతనిని తేరి చూచినప్పుడు లోపల అతని ఒంటి మీద గోనెపట్ట కనబడెను.

30. On hearing the woman's words, the king tore his clothes; the king was walking on the wall, and the people saw that underneath he was wearing sackcloth next his body.

31. తరువాత రాజుషాపాతు కుమారుడైన ఎలీషాయొక్క తల యీ దినమున అతనిపైన నిలిచియున్నయెడల దేవుడు నాకు గొప్ప అపాయము కలుగజేయునుగాక అనెను.

31. 'May God bring unnameable ills on me, and worse ills, too,' he said, 'if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today!'

32. అయితే ఎలీషా తన యింట కూర్చునియుండగా పెద్దలును అతనితోకూడ కూర్చుండి యున్నప్పుడు రాజు ఒక మనిషిని పంపెను. ఆ పంప బడినవాడు ఎలీషాదగ్గరకు రాకమునుపే అతడు ఆ పెద్ద లను చూచిఈ నరహంతకుని కుమారుడు నా తలను కొట్టి వేయుటకు ఒకని పంపియున్నాడని మీకు తెలిసినదా? మీరు కనిపెట్టి యుండి, ఆ దూత రాగా వాడు లోపలికి రాకుండ తలుపుతో వానిని వెలుపలికి తోసి తలుపు మూసి వేయుడి;వాని యజమానుని కాళ్లచప్పుడు వానివెనుక వినబడును గదా అని వారితో చెప్పుచుండగా

32. Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king sent a messenger ahead but, before the man arrived, Elisha had said to the elders, 'Do you see how this son of a murderer has given orders to cut off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door; hold the door against him. Isn't that the sound of his master's step behind him?'

33. ఆ దూత అతనియొద్దకు వచ్చెను. అంతట రాజుఈ కీడు యెహోవా వలననైనది, నేను ఇక ఎందుకు యెహోవాకొరకు కనిపెట్టి యుండవలెననెను.

33. He was still actually speaking, when the king arrived and said, 'This misery plainly comes from Yahweh. Why should I still trust in Yahweh?'
