1. రాజు తన కుమారునిగూర్చి దుఃఖించుచు ఏడ్చుచున్నాడను సంగతి ఆ దినమున జనులందరు విని,

1. Someone told Joab, 'The king is crying because Absalom is dead.'

2. యుద్ధ మందు సిగ్గుతో పారిపోయిన జనులవలె వారు నాడు దొంగనడకలతో వచ్చి పట్టణములో ప్రవేశించిరి;

2. David's army found out he was crying because his son had died, and their day of victory suddenly turned into a day of sadness.

3. నాటి విజయము జనులకందరికి దుఃఖమునకు కారణమాయెను.

3. The troops were sneaking into Mahanaim, just as if they had run away from a battle and were ashamed.

4. రాజు ముఖము కప్పుకొని అబ్షాలోమా నా కుమాడుడా అబ్షాలోమా నా కుమారుడా నా కుమారుడా, అని కేకలు వేయుచు ఏడ్చుచుండగా,

4. David held his hands over his face and kept on crying loudly, 'My son, Absalom! Absalom, my son, my son!'

5. రాజు అబ్షాలోమునుగూర్చి దుఃఖించుచు ఏడ్చుచున్నాడను సంగతి యోవాబు విని నగరియందున్న రాజునొద్దకు వచ్చినీ ప్రాణమును నీ కుమారుల ప్రాణములను నీ కుమార్తెల ప్రాణములను నీ భార్యల ప్రాణములను నీ ఉపపత్నుల ప్రాణములను ఈ దినమున రక్షించిన నీ సేవకులనందరిని నేడు సిగ్గుపరచి

5. Joab went to the house where David was staying and told him: You've made your soldiers ashamed! Not only did they save your life, they saved your sons and daughters and wives as well.

6. నీ స్నేహితుల యెడల ప్రేమ చూపక నీ శత్రువులయెడలప్రేమ చూపుచు, ఈ దినమున అధిపతులును సేవకులును నీకు ఇష్టజనులుకారని నీవు కనుపరచితివి. మేమందరము చనిపోయి అబ్షాలోము బ్రదికియుండినయెడల అది నీకు ఇష్టమగునన్న మాట యీ దినమున నేను తెలిసికొనుచున్నాను. ఇప్పుడు లేచి బయటికివచ్చి నీ సేవకులను ధైర్యపరచుము.

6. You're more loyal to your enemies than to your friends. What you've done today has shown your officers and soldiers that they don't mean a thing to you. You would be happy if Absalom was still alive, even if the rest of us were dead.

7. నీవు బయటికి రాకయుండిన యెడల ఈ రాత్రి యొకడును నీయొద్ద నిలువడని యెహోవా నామమునుబట్టి ప్రమాణము చేసి చెప్పుచున్నాను; నీ బాల్యమునుండి నేటివరకు నీకు ప్రాప్తించిన అపాయము లన్నిటికంటె అది నీకు కష్టతరముగా ఉండునని రాజుతో మనవిచేయగా రాజు లేచి వచ్చి గుమ్మములో కూర్చుం డెను.

7. Now get up! Go out there and thank them for what they did. If you don't, I swear by the LORD that you won't even have one man left on your side tomorrow morning. You may have had a lot of troubles in the past, but this will be the worst thing that has ever happened to you!

8. రాజు గుమ్మములో కూర్చున్నాడను మాట జనులందరు విని రాజును దర్శింప వచ్చిరిగాని ఇశ్రాయేలువారు తమ తమ యిండ్లకు పారిపోయిరి.

8. David got up and went to the town gate and sat down. When the people heard that he was sitting there, they came to see him. After Israel's soldiers had all returned home,

9. అంతట ఇశ్రాయేలువారి గోత్రములకు చేరికైన జనులందరు ఇట్లనుకొనిరిమన శత్రువుల చేతిలోనుండియు, ఫిలిష్తీయుల చేతిలోనుండియు మనలను విడిపించిన రాజు అబ్షాలోమునకు భయపడి దేశములోనుండి పారిపోయెను.

9. everyone in Israel started arguing. They were saying to each other, 'King David rescued us from the Philistines and from our other enemies. But then we chose Absalom to be our new leader, and David had to leave the country to get away. Absalom died in battle, so why hasn't something been done to bring David back?'

10. మనమీద మనము రాజుగా పట్టాభిషేకము చేసిన అబ్షాలోము యుద్దమందు మరణమాయెను. కాబట్టి మనము రాజును మరల తోడుకొని వచ్చుటను గూర్చి ఏల మాట్లాడక పోతివిు?

11. రాజైన దావీదు ఇది విని యాజకులగు సాదోకునకును అబ్యాతారునకును వర్తమానము పంపిఇశ్రాయేలువా రందరు మాటలాడుకొను సంగతి నగరిలోనున్న రాజునకు వినబడెను గనుక రాజును నగరికి మరల తోడుకొని రాకుండ మీరెందుకు ఆలస్యము చేయుచున్నారు?

11. When David found out what they were saying, he sent a message to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. It said: Say to the leaders of Judah, 'Why are you the last tribe to think about bringing King David back home?

12. మీరు నాకు ఎముక నంటినట్టియు మాంసము నంటినట్టియు సహోదరులై యుండగా రాజును తోడుకొని రాకుండ మీరెందుకు ఆలస్యము చేయుచున్నారని యూదావారి పెద్దలతో చెప్పుమని ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

12. He is your brother, your own relative! Why haven't you done anything to bring him back?'

13. మరియు అమాశా యొద్దకు దూతలను పంపినీవు నాకు ఎముక నంటిన బంధువుడవు మాంసము నంటిన బంధువుడవు కావా? యోవాబునకు బదులు నిన్ను సైన్యాధిపతిగా నేను ఖాయ పరచనియెడల దేవుడు గొప్ప అపాయము నాకు కలుగ జేయును గాకని చెప్పుడనెను.

13. And tell Amasa, 'You're my nephew, and with God as a witness, I swear I'll make you commander of my army instead of Joab.'

14. Soon the tribe of Judah again became followers of David, and they sent him this message: 'Come back, and bring your soldiers with you.'

15. యూదావారు రాజును ఎదుర్కొనుటకును రాజును నది యివతలకు తోడుకొని వచ్చుటకును గిల్గాలునకు వచ్చిరి.

15. David started back and had gone as far as the Jordan River when he met the people of Judah. They had gathered at Gilgal and had come to help him cross the river.

16. అంతలో బహూరీమునందున్న బెన్యామీనీయుడగు గెరా కుమారుడైన షిమీ త్వరపడి రాజైన దావీదును ఎదుర్కొనుటకై యూదావారితో కూడ వచ్చెను.

16. Shimei the son of Gera was there with them. He had hurried from Bahurim to meet David. Shimei was from the tribe of Benjamin, and

17. అతని యొద్ద వెయ్యిమంది బెన్యామీనీయులు ఉండిరి. మరియుసౌలు కుటుంబమునకు సేవకుడగు సీబాయును అతని పదు నయిదుగురు కుమారులును అతని యిరువదిమంది దాసులును వచ్చి

17. a thousand others from Benjamin had come with him. Ziba, the chief servant of Saul's family, also came to the Jordan River. He and his fifteen sons and twenty servants waded across to meet David.

18. Then they brought David's family and servants back across the river, and they did everything he wanted them to do. Shimei crossed the Jordan River and bowed down in front of David.

19. నా యేలినవాడా, నేను చేసిన ద్రోహము నామీద మోపకుము; నా యేలిన వాడవును రాజవునగు నీవు యెరూషలేమును విడిచిన వేళ నీ దాసుడనగు నేను మూర్ఖించి చేసిన దోషమును జ్ఞాపకమందుంచకుము, మనస్సునందుంచు కొనకుము.

19. He said, 'Your Majesty, I beg you not to punish me! Please, forget what I did when you were leaving Jerusalem. Don't even think about it.

20. నేను పాపము చేసితినని నాకు తెలిసినది గనుక యోసేపు వారందరితో కూడ నా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నిన్ను ఎదుర్కొనుటకై నేను ముందుగా వచ్చియున్నాననెను.

20. I know I was wrong. That's why I wanted to be the first one from the northern tribes to meet you.'

21. అంతట సెరూయా కుమారుడగు అబీషైయెహోవా అభిషేకించినవానిని శపించిన యీ షిమీ మరణమునకు పాత్రుడు కాడా అని యనగా

21. But Abishai shouted, 'You should be killed for cursing the LORD's chosen king!'

22. దావీదుసెరూయా కుమారులారా, మీకును నాకును ఏమి పొందు? ఇట్టి సమయమున మీరు నాకు విరోధులగుదురా? ఇశ్రాయేలువారిలో ఎవరైనను ఈ దినమున మరణశిక్ష నొందుదురా? యిప్పుడు నేను ఇశ్రాయేలువారిమీద రాజు నైతినను సంగతి నాకు తెలిసేయున్నదని చెప్పి ప్రమా ణముచేసి

22. David said, 'Abishai, what will I ever do with you and your brother Joab? Is it your job to tell me who has done wrong? I've been made king of all Israel today, and no one will be put to death!'

23. నీకు మరణశిక్ష విధింపనని షిమీతో సెల విచ్చెను.

23. Then David promised Shimei that he would not be killed.

24. మరియు సౌలు కుమారుడగు మెఫీబోషెతు రాజును నెదుర్కొనుటకు వచ్చెను. రాజు పారిపోయిన దినము మొదలుకొని అతడు సుఖముగా తిరిగి వచ్చిన నాటివరకు అతడు కాళ్లు కడుగుకొనకయు, గడ్డము కత్తిరించు కొనకయు బట్టలు ఉదుకుకొనకయు నుండెను.

24. Mephibosheth, the grandson of Saul, also came to meet David. He had missed David so much that he had not taken a bath or trimmed his beard or washed his clothes the whole time David was gone.

25. రాజును ఎదుర్కొనుటకై అతడు యెరూషలేమునకు రాగా రాజు మెఫీబోషెతూ, నీవు నాతో కూడ రాకపోతివేమని అతని నడిగెను

25. After they had gone back to Jerusalem, Mephibosheth came to see David, who asked him, 'Why didn't you go with me?'

26. అందుకతడునా యేలినవాడా రాజా, నీ దాసుడనైన నేను కుంటివాడను గనుక గాడిదమీద గంత కట్టించి యెక్కి రాజుతో కూడ వెళ్లిపోదునని నేనను కొనగా నా పనివాడు నన్ను మోసము చేసెను.

26. He answered, 'Your Majesty, you know I can't walk. I told my servant to saddle a donkey for me so I could go with you. But my servant left without me, and

27. సీబా నీ దాసుడనైన నన్ను గూర్చి నా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నీతో అబద్ధమాడెను. అయితే నా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నీవు దేవదూత వంటివాడవు, నీ దృష్టికి ఏది యనుకూలమో దాని చేయుము.

27. then he lied about me. You're as wise as an angel of God, so do what you think is right.

28. నా తండ్రి యింటి వారందరు నా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నీ దృష్టికి మృతుల వంటివారై యుండగా, నీవు నీ బల్లయొద్ద భోజనము చేయువారిలో నీ దాసుడనైన నన్ను చేర్చితివి. కాబట్టి ఇకను రాజవైన నీకు మొఱ్ఱపెట్టుటకు నాకేమి న్యాయమని అనగా

28. After all, you could have killed my whole family and me. But instead, you let me eat at your own table. Your Majesty, what more could I ask?'

29. రాజునీ సంగతులను నీవిక ఎందులకు ఎత్తెదవు? నీవును సీబాయును భూమిని పంచుకొనుడని నేనాజ్ఞ ఇచ్చితిని గదా అనెను.

29. David answered, 'You've said enough! I've decided to divide the property between you and Ziba.'

30. అందుకు మెఫీబోషెతునా యేలినవాడవగు నీవు నీ నగరికి తిరిగి క్షేమముగా వచ్చియున్నావు గనుక అతడు అంతయు తీసికొన వచ్చుననెను.

30. Mephibosheth replied, 'He can have it all! I'm just glad you've come home safely.'

31. మరియు గిలాదీయుడగు బర్జిల్లయి రోగెలీమునుండి యొర్దాను అద్దరికి వచ్చి రాజుతోకూడ నది దాటెను.

31. Barzillai came from Rogelim in Gilead to meet David at the Jordan River and go across with him.

32. బర్జిల్లయి యెనుబది సంవత్సరముల వయస్సుకలిగి బహు ముసలివాడై యుండెను. అతడు అధిక ఐశ్వర్యవంతుడు గనుక రాజు మహనయీములో నుండగా అతనికి భోజన పదార్థములను పంపించుచు వచ్చెను.

32. Barzillai was eighty years old. He was very rich and had sent food to David in Mahanaim.

33. యెరూషలేములో నాయొద్ద నిన్ను నిలిపి పోషించెదను, నీవు నాతోకూడ నది దాటవలెనని రాజు బర్జిల్లయితో సెలవియ్యగా

33. David said to him, 'Cross the river and go to Jerusalem with me. I will take care of you.'

34. బర్జిల్లయిరాజవగు నీతోకూడ యెరూషలేమునకు వచ్చుటకు ఇక నేనెన్ని దినములు బ్రతుకబోవుదును?

34. Barzillai answered: Your Majesty, why should I go to Jerusalem? I don't have much longer to live.

35. నేటికి నాకు ఎనుబది యేండ్లాయెను. సుఖదుఃఖములకున్న భేదమును నేను గుర్తింపగలనా? అన్నపానముల రుచి నీ దాసుడనైన నేను తెలిసికొనగలనా? గాయకుల యొక్కయు గాయకురాండ్రయొక్కయు స్వరము నాకు విన బడునా? కావున నీ దాసుడనగు నేను నా యేలిన వాడవును రాజవునగు నీకు ఎందుకు భారముగా నుండ వలెను?

35. I'm already eighty years old, and my body is almost numb. I can't taste my food or hear the sound of singing, and I would be nothing but a burden.

36. నీ దాసుడనైన నేను నీతోకూడ నది దాటి అవతలకు కొంచెము దూరము వచ్చెదను గాని రాజవగు నీవు నాకంత ప్రత్యుపకారము చేయనేల?

36. I'll cross the river with you, but I'll only go a little way on the other side. You don't have to be so kind to me.

37. నేను నా ఊరి యందుండి మరణమై నా తలిదండ్రుల సమాధియందు పాతిపెట్టబడుటకై అచ్చటికి తిరిగి పోవునట్లు నాకు సెలవిమ్ము, చిత్తగించుము, నీ దాసుడగు కింహాము నా యేలిన వాడవును రాజవునగు నీతోకూడ వచ్చుటకు సెలవిమ్ము; నీ దృష్టికి ఏది యనుకూలమో దానిని అతనికి చేయుమని మనవి చేయగా

37. Just let me return to my hometown, where I can someday be buried near my father and mother. My servant Chimham can go with you, and you can treat him as your own.

38. రాజుకింహాము నాతోకూడ రావచ్చును, నీ దృష్టికి అనుకూలమైన దానిని నేను అతనికి చేసెదను, మరియు నావలన నీవు కోరునదంతయు నేను చేసెదనని సెలవిచ్చెను.

38. David said, 'I'll take Chimham with me, and whatever you ask me to do for him, I'll do. And if there's anything else you want, I'll also do that.'

39. David's soldiers went on across the river, while he stayed behind to tell Barzillai good-by and to wish him well. Barzillai returned home, but

40. యూదా వారందరును ఇశ్రాయేలువారిలో సగము మందియు రాజును తోడుకొని రాగా రాజు కింహామును వెంటబెట్టుకొని గిల్గాలునకు వచ్చెను.

40. Chimham crossed the river with David. All of Judah's army and half of Israel's army were there to help David cross the river.

41. ఇట్లుండగా ఇశ్రాయేలు వారందరును రాజునొద్దకు వచ్చిమా సహోదరులగు యూదావారు ఎందుకు నిన్ను దొంగిలించుకొని నీ యింటివారిని నీవారిని యొర్దాను ఇవతలకు తోడుకొని వచ్చిరని యడుగగా

41. The soldiers from Israel came to him and said, 'Why did our relatives from Judah sneak you and your family and your soldiers across the Jordan?'

42. యూదా వారందరురాజు మీకు సమీపబంధువుడై యున్నాడు గదా, మీకు కోపమెందుకు? ఆలాగుండినను మాలో ఎవరమైనను రాజు సొమ్ము ఏమైనను తింటిమా? మాకు యినాము ఏమైన ఇచ్చెనా? అని ఇశ్రాయేలువారితో అనిరి.

42. The people of Judah answered, 'Why are you so angry? We are the king's relatives. He didn't give us any food, and we didn't take anything for ourselves!'

43. అందుకు ఇశ్రాయేలు వారురాజులో మాకు పది భాగములున్నవి; మీకంటె మేము దావీదునందు అధిక స్వాతంత్ర్యము గలవారము; రాజును తోడుకొని వచ్చుటనుగురించి మీతో ముందుగా మాటలాడినవారము మేమే గదా మీరు మమ్మును నిర్లక్ష్యము చేసితిరేమి? అని యూదా వారితో పలికిరి. యూదా వారి మాటలు ఇశ్రాయేలు వారి మాటలకంటె కఠినముగా ఉండెను.

43. Those from Israel said, 'King David belongs to us ten times more than he belongs to you. Why didn't you think we were good enough to help you? After all, we were the first ones to think of bringing him back!' The people of Judah spoke more harshly than the people of Israel.
