1. దావీదు తన యొద్దనున్న జనులను లెక్కించి వారి మీద సహస్రాధిపతులను శతాధిపతులను నిర్ణయించి

1. And David numbered the people who were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.

2. జనులను మూడు భాగములుగా చేసి యోవాబు చేతి క్రింద ఒక భాగమును సెరూయా కుమారుడగు అబీషై అను యోవాబు సహోదరుని చేతిక్రింద ఒక భాగమును, గిత్తీయుడైన ఇత్తయి చేతిక్రింద ఒక భాగమును ఉంచెను. దావీదునేను మీతోకూడ బయలుదేరుదునని జనులతో చెప్పగా

2. And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, 'I will surely go forth with you myself also.'

3. జనులునీవు రాకూడదు, మేము పారిపోయినను జనులు దానిని లక్ష్యపెట్టరు, మాలో సగము మంది చనిపోయినను జనులు దానిని లక్ష్యపెట్టరు, మావంటి పదివేల మందితో నీవు సాటి; కాబట్టి నీవు పట్టణమందు నిలిచి మాకు సహాయము చేయవలెనని అతనితో చెప్పిరి.

3. But the people answered, 'Thou shalt not go forth; for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die will they care for us. But now thou art worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that thou succor us from the city.'

4. అందుకు రాజుమీ దృష్టికేది మంచిదో దాని చేసెదనని చెప్పి గుమ్మపు ప్రక్కను నిలిచి యుండగా జనులందరును గుంపులై వందల కొలదిగాను వేల కొలదిగాను బయలుదేరిరి.

4. And the king said unto them, 'What seemeth to you best I will do.' And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.

5. అప్పుడు రాజు యోవాబును అబీషైని ఇత్తయిని పిలిచినా నిమిత్తమై ¸యౌవనుడైన అబ్షాలోమునకు దయ జూపుడని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను. జనులందరు వినుచుండగా రాజు అబ్షాలోమునుగూర్చి అధిపతులకందరికి ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.

5. And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, 'Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom.' And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

6. జనులు ఇశ్రాయేలువారిని ఎదిరించుటకై పొలములోనికి బయలుదేరిన మీదట యుద్ధము ఎఫ్రాయిము వనములో జరుగగా

6. So the people went out into the field against Israel. And the battle was in the wood of Ephraim,

7. ఇశ్రాయేలువారు దావీదు సేవకుల యెదుట నిలువలేక ఓడిపోయిరి; ఆ దినమున ఇరువది వేల మంది అక్కడ హతులైరి.

7. where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David; and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.

8. యుద్ధము ఆ ప్రదేశమంతటను వ్యాపించెను; మరియు నాటి దినమున కత్తిచేత కూలినవారి కంటె ఎక్కువమంది అడవిలో చిక్కుబడి నాశనమైరి.

8. For the battle there was scattered over the face of all the country; and the woods devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

9. అబ్షాలోము కంచర గాడిదమీద ఎక్కి పోవుచు దావీదు సేవకులకు ఎదురాయెను; ఆ కంచరగాడిద యొక గొప్పమస్తకి వృక్షముయొక్క చిక్కుకొమ్మల క్రిందికి పోయినప్పుడు అతని తల చెట్టుకు తగులుకొనినందున అతడు ఎత్తబడి ఆకాశమునకును భూమికిని మధ్యను వ్రేలాడు చుండగా అతని క్రిందనున్న కంచరగాడిద సాగిపోయెను.

9. And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak; and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth, and the mule that was under him went away.

10. ఒకడు దానిని చూచి వచ్చి అబ్షాలోము మస్తకివృక్షమున వ్రేలాడుచుండుట నేను చూచితినని యోవాబుతో చెప్పినప్పుడు

10. And a certain man saw it, and told Joab and said, 'Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.'

11. యోవాబునీవు చూచి యుంటివే, నేల కూలునట్లు నీవతని కొట్టకపోతివేమి? నీవతని చంపినయెడల పది తులముల వెండియు ఒక నడికట్టును నీకిచ్చియుందునని తనకు సమాచారము చెప్పినవానితో అనెను.

11. And Joab said unto the man who told him, 'And behold, thou sawest him, and why did thou not smite him there to the ground? And I would have given thee ten shekels of silver and a girdle.'

12. అందుకు వాడు¸యౌవనుడైన అబ్షాలోమును ఎవడును ముట్టకుండజాగ్రత్తపడుడని రాజు నీకును అబీషైకిని ఇత్తయికిని ఆజ్ఞ నిచ్చుచుండగా నేను వింటిని; వెయ్యి తులముల వెండి నా చేతిలో పెట్టినను రాజు కుమారుని నేను చంపను.

12. And the man said unto Joab, 'Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, `Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.'

13. మోసము చేసి నేను అతని ప్రాణమునకు ముప్పు తెచ్చిన యెడల అది రాజునకు తెలియకపోదు, రాజు సన్నిధిని నీవే నాకు విరోధివగుదువు గదా అని యోవాబుతో అనగా

13. Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life; for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.'

14. యోవాబునీవు చేయువరకు నేను కాచుకొని యుందునా? అని చెప్పి మూడు బాణములు చేత పట్టుకొని పోయి మస్తకివృక్షమున వ్రేలాడుచు ఇంకను ప్రాణముతో నున్న అబ్షాలోముయొక్క గుండెకు గురిపెట్టి

14. Then said Joab, 'I may not tarry thus with thee.' And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

15. తన ఆయుధములను మోయువారు పదిమంది చుట్టు చుట్టుకొని యుండగా అబ్షాలోమును కొట్టి చంపెను.

15. And ten young men who bore Joab's armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

16. అప్పుడు జనులను ఇక హతము చేయక విడువవలసినదని యోవాబు బాకా ఊదింపగా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను తరుముకొని పోయిన జనులు తిరిగి వచ్చిరి.

16. And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel, for Joab held back the people.

17. జనులు అబ్షాలోము యొక్క కళేబరమును ఎత్తి అడవిలో ఉన్న పెద్దగోతిలో పడవేసి పెద్దరాళ్లకుప్ప దానిమీద పేర్చిన తరువాత ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును తమ తమ యిండ్లకు పోయిరి.

17. And they took Absalom and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him; and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

18. తన పేరు నిలుపుటకు తనకు కుమారులు లేరనుకొని, అబ్షా లోము తాను బ్రదికియుండగా ఒక స్తంభము తెచ్చి దానిని రాజు లోయలో తన పేరట నిలువబెట్టి, అతడు ఆ స్తంభమునకు తన పేరు పెట్టియుండెను. నేటివరకు అబ్షాలోము స్తంభమని దానికి పేరు.

18. Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the King's Dale, for he said, 'I have no son to keep my name in remembrance.' And he called the pillar after his own name; and it is called unto this day, Absalom's Place.

19. సాదోకు కుమారుడైన అహిమయస్సునేను పరుగెత్తి కొని పోయి యెహోవా తన శత్రువులను ఓడించి తనకు న్యాయము తీర్చిన వర్తమానము రాజుతో చెప్పెదననగా

19. Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, 'Let me now run and bear the king tidings, how the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.'

20. యోవాబు ఈ దినమున ఈ వర్తమానము చెప్ప తగదు, మరియొక దినమున చెప్పవచ్చును; రాజు కుమారుడు మరణమాయెను గనుక ఈ దినమున వర్తమానము తీసికొని పోతగదని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

20. And Joab said unto him, 'Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day; but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.'

21. తరువాత కూషీని పిలిచినీవు పోయి నీవు చూచిన దానిని రాజునకు తెలియ జేయుమనగా కూషీ యోవాబునకు నమస్కారము చేసి పరుగెత్తికొని పోయెను.

21. Then said Joab to a Cushite, 'Go, tell the king what thou hast seen.' And the Cushite bowed himself unto Joab and ran.

22. అయితే సాదోకు కుమారుడైన అహి మయస్సుకూషీతోకూడ నేనును పరుగెత్తికొనిపోవు టకు సెలవిమ్మని యోవాబుతో మనవిచేయగా యోవాబునాయనా నీవెందుకు పోవలెను? చెప్పుటకు నీకు బహుమానము తెచ్చు విశేషమైన సమాచార మేదియు లేదు గదా అని అతనితో అనగా

22. Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, 'But come what may, let me, I pray thee, also run after the Cushite.' And Joab said, 'Why wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?'

23. అతడుఏమైనను సరే నేను పరుగెత్తికొని పోవుదు ననెను. అందుకు యోవాబుపొమ్మని సెలవియ్యగా అహిమయస్సు మైదానపు మార్గ మున పరుగెత్తికొని కూషీకంటె ముందుగా చేరెను.

23. 'But howsoever,' said he, 'let me run.' And he said unto him, 'Run.' Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and outran the Cushite.

24. దావీదు రెండు గుమ్మముల మధ్యను నడవలో కూర్చొని యుండెను; కావలికాడు గుమ్మముపైనున్న గోడమీదికి ఎక్కి పారచూడగా ఒంటరిగా పరుగెత్తికొని వచ్చుచున్న యొకడు కనబడెను. వాడు అరచి రాజునకు ఈ సంగతి తెలియజేయగా

24. And David sat between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man running alone.

25. రాజువాడు ఒంటరిగా ఉండినయెడల ఏదో వర్తమానము తెచ్చుచున్నాడనెను. అంతలో వాడు పరుగుమీద వచ్చుచుండగా

25. And the watchman cried and told the king. And the king said, 'If he be alone, there are tidings in his mouth.' And he came apace and drew near.

26. కావలికాడు పరుగెత్తికొని వచ్చు మరియొకని కనుగొని అదిగో మరియొకడు ఒంటరి గానే పరుగెత్తికొని వచ్చుచున్నాడని ద్వారపుతట్టు తిరిగి చెప్పగా రాజువాడును వర్తమానము తెచ్చుచున్నాడనెను.

26. And the watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called unto the gatekeeper and said, 'Behold, another man running alone.' And the king said, 'He also bringeth tidings.'

27. కావలికాడు మొదటివాడు పరుగెత్తుట చూడగావాడు సాదోకు కుమారుడైన అహిమయస్సు అని నాకు తోచుచున్నది అనినప్పుడు రాజువాడు మంచివాడు, శుభవర్తమానము తెచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పెను. అంతలొ

27. And the watchman said, 'I think the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.' And the king said, 'He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.'

28. అహిమయస్సు జయమని బిగ్గరగా రాజుతో చెప్పి రాజు ముందర సాష్టాంగ నమస్కారము చేసినా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నిన్ను చంప చూచిన వారిని అప్పగించిన నీ దేవుడైన యెహోవాకు స్తోత్రము అని చెప్పెను.

28. And Ahimaaz called and said unto the king, 'All is well.' And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king and said, 'Blessed be the LORD thy God, who hath delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king.'

29. రాజుబాలుడగు అబ్షాలోము క్షేమముగా ఉన్నాడా? అని యడుగగా అహిమయస్సుయోవాబు రాజసేవకుడ నైన నీ దాసుడనగు నన్ను పంపినప్పుడు గొప్ప అల్లరి జరుగుట నేను చూచితిని గాని అది ఏమైనది నాకు తెలిసినది కాదని చెప్పెను.

29. And the king said, 'Is the young man Absalom safe?' And Ahimaaz answered, 'When Joab sent the king's servant and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.'

30. అప్పుడు రాజునీవు ప్రక్కకు తొలగి నిలిచియుండు మని వానికాజ్ఞనియ్యగా వాడు తొలగి నిలిచెను.

30. And the king said unto him, 'Turn aside and stand here.' And he turned aside and stood still.

31. అంతలో కూషీ వచ్చినా యేలిన వాడా రాజా, నేను నీకు శుభసమాచారము తెచ్చితిని; యీ దినమున యెహోవా నీ మీదికి వచ్చినవారినందరిని ఓడించి నీకు న్యాయము తీర్చెనని చెప్పినప్పుడు

31. And behold, the Cushite came; and the Cushite said, 'Tidings, my lord the king; for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all those who rose up against thee.'

32. రాజుబాలుడగు అబ్షాలోము క్షేమముగా ఉన్నాడా? అని యడిగెను. అందుకు కూషీ చెప్పినదేమనగానా యేలినవాడవును రాజవునగు నీ శత్రువులును నీకు హాని చేయవలెనని నీ మీదికి వచ్చినవారందరును ఆ బాలుడున్నట్టుగానే యుందురు గాక.

32. And the king said unto the Cushite, 'Is the young man Absalom safe?' And the Cushite answered, 'The enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.'

33. అప్పుడు రాజు బహు కలతపడి గుమ్మ మునకు పైగా నున్న గదికి ఎక్కి పోయి యేడ్చుచు, సంచరించుచునా కుమారుడా అబ్షా లోమా, నా కుమా రుడా అబ్షాలోమా, అని కేకలు వేయుచు, అయ్యో నా కుమారుడా, నీకు బదులుగా నేను చనిపోయినయెడల ఎంత బాగుండును; నా కుమారుడా అబ్షాలోమా నా కుమారుడా, అని యేడ్చుచు వచ్చెను.

33. And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And as he went, thus he said, 'O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!'
