1. దావీదు అమాలేకీయులను హతముచేసి తిరిగి వచ్చెను. సౌలు మృతినొందిన తరువాత అతడు సిక్లగులో రెండు దినములుండెను.

1. Saul was dead and David, returning after his victory over the Amalekites, had been at Ziklag for two days.

2. మూడవ దినమున బట్టలు చింపుకొని తలమీద బుగ్గిపోసికొనిన యొకడు సౌలునొద్దనున్న దండులోనుండి వచ్చెను.

2. On the third day, a man arrived from Saul's camp with his clothes torn and earth on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground and prostrated himself.

3. అతడు దావీదును దర్శించి నేలను సాగిలపడి నమస్కారము చేయగా దావీదునీ వెక్కడనుండి వచ్చితివని యడి గెను. అందుకు వాడుఇశ్రాయేలీయుల సైన్యములోనుండి నేను తప్పించుకొని వచ్చితిననెను.

3. David asked him, 'Where have you come from?' 'I have escaped from the Israelite camp,' he said.

4. జరిగిన సంగతులేవో నాతో చెప్పుమని దావీదు సెలవియ్యగా వాడుజనులు యుద్ధమందు నిలువ లేక పారిపోయిరి. అనేకులు పడి చచ్చిరి, సౌలును అతని కుమారుడైన యోనాతానును మరణమైరి అనెను.

4. David said, 'What has happened? Tell me.' He replied, 'The people fled from the battle, and many of them have fallen and are dead. Saul and his son Jonathan are dead too.'

5. సౌలును అతని కుమారుడైన యోనాతానును మరణమైరని నీ కేలాగు తెలిసినది అని దావీదు వాని నడుగగా వాడిట్లనెను

5. Then David asked the young man who brought the news, 'How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?'

6. గిల్బోవ పర్వతమునకు నేను అకస్మాత్తుగా వచ్చినప్పుడు సౌలు తన యీటెమీద ఆనుకొనియుండెను.

6. The young man replied, 'I happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and the cavalry bearing down on him.

7. అతడు రథములును రౌతులును తనను వెనువెంట తగులు చుండుట చూచి వెనుక తిరిగి నన్ను కనుగొని పిలిచెను. అందుకుచిత్తము నా యేలినవాడా అని నేనంటిని.

7. Glancing behind him and seeing me, he shouted to me. I replied, 'Here I am!'

8. నీవెవడవని అతడు నన్నడుగగానేను అమాలేకీయుడనని చెప్పితిని.

8. He said, 'Who are you?' I replied, 'I am an Amalekite.'

9. అతడునా ప్రాణము ఇంక నాలో ఉన్నదిగాని తల త్రిప్పుచేత నేను బహు బాధ పడుచున్నాను ; నీవు నా దగ్గర నిలువబడి నన్ను చంపుమని సెలవియ్యగా,

9. He then said, 'Come here and kill me. My head is swimming, although I still have all my strength.'

10. ఈలాగు పడినతరువాత అతడు బ్రదుకడని నేను నిశ్చయించుకొని అతనిదగ్గర నిలిచి అతని చంపితిని; తరువాత అతని తలమీదనున్న కిరీటమును హస్తకంకణము లను తీసికొని నా యేలినవాడవైన నీయొద్దకు వాటిని తెచ్చియున్నాను అనెను.

10. So I went over to him and killed him, because I knew that once he fell he could not survive. I then took the crown which he had on his head and the bracelet on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.'

11. దావీదు ఆ వార్త విని తన వస్త్రములు చింపుకొనెను. అతనియొద్ద నున్న వారందరును ఆలాగున చేసి

11. David then took hold of his clothes and tore them, and all the men with him did the same.

12. సౌలును యోనాతానును యెహోవా జనులును ఇశ్రాయేలు ఇంటివారును యుద్ధములో కూలిరని వారిని గూర్చి దుఃఖపడుచు ఏడ్చుచు సాయంత్రము వరకు ఉపవాసముండిరి.

12. They mourned and wept and fasted until the evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, for the people of Yahweh and for the House of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

13. తరువాత దావీదునీవెక్కడ నుండి వచ్చితివని ఆ వార్త తెచ్చినవాని నడుగగా వాడునేను ఇశ్రాయేలు దేశమున నివసించు అమాలేకీయుడగు ఒకని కుమారుడననెను.

13. David said to the young man who had brought the news, 'Where are you from?' He replied, 'I am the son of a resident foreigner, an Amalekite.'

14. అందుకు దావీదుభయపడక యెహోవా అభిషేకించినవానిని చంపుటకు నీవేల అతని మీద చెయ్యి ఎత్తితివి?

14. David said, 'How was it that you were not afraid to lift your hand to destroy Yahweh's anointed?'

15. యెహోవా అభిషేకించిన వానిని నేను చంపితినని నీవు చెప్పితివే;

15. Then David called one of the young men. 'Come here,' he said, 'strike him down.' The man struck him and he died.

16. నీ నోటి మాటయే నీ మీద సాక్ష్యము గనుక నీ ప్రాణమునకు నీవే ఉత్తరవాదివని వానితో చెప్పి తనవారిలో ఒకని పిలిచినీవు పోయి వాని చంపుమనగా అతడు వానిని కొట్టి చంపెను.

16. David said, 'Your blood be on your own head. You convicted yourself out of your own mouth by saying, 'I killed Yahweh's anointed.' '

17. యూదావారికి అభ్యాసము చేయవలెనని దావీదు సౌలునుగూర్చియు అతని కుమారుడైన యోనాతానును గూర్చియు ధనుర్గీతమొకటి చేసి దానినిబట్టి విలాపము సలిపెను.

17. David sang the following lament over Saul and his son Jonathan

18. అది యాషారు గ్రంథమందు లిఖింపబడి యున్నది. ఎట్లనగా

18. (it is for teaching archery to the children of Judah; it is written in the Book of the Just):

19. ఇశ్రాయేలూ, నీకు భూషణమగువారునీ ఉన్నత స్థలములమీద హతులైరి అహహా బలాఢ్యులు పడిపోయిరి.

19. Does the splendour of Israel lie dead on your heights? How did the heroes fall?

20. ఫిలిష్తీయుల కుమార్తెలు సంతోషింపకుండునట్లు సున్నతిలేనివారి కుమార్తెలు జయమని చెప్పకుండునట్లుఈ సమాచారము గాతులో తెలియజేయకుడి అష్కెలోను వీధులలో ప్రకటన చేయకుడి.

20. Do not speak of it in Gath, nor broadcast it in the streets of Ashkelon, for fear the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, for fear the daughters of the uncircumcised gloat.

21. గిల్బోవ పర్వతములారా మీమీద మంచైనను వర్షమైనను ప్రథమ ఫలార్పణకు తగిన పైరుగల చేలైననులేకపోవును గాక. బలాఢ్యులడాళ్లు అవమానముగ పారవేయబడెను. తైలముచేత అభిషేకింపబడని వారిదైనట్టు1సౌలు డాలును పారవేయబడెను.

21. You mountains of Gilboa, no dew, no rain fall on you, O treacherous fields where the heroes' shield lies dishonoured! Not greased with oil, the shield of Saul,

22. హతుల రక్తము ఒలికింపకుండ బలాఢ్యుల క్రొవ్వును పట్టకుండయోనాతాను విల్లు వెనుకతియ్యలేదుఎవరిని హతముచేయకుండ సౌలు కత్తి వెనుక తీసినది కాదు.

22. but with the blood of wounded men, the fat of warriors! The bow of Jonathan never turned back, the sword of Saul never came home unsated!

23. సౌలును యోనాతానును తమ బ్రతుకునందు సరసులు గాను నెనరుగల వారుగాను ఉండిరితమ మరణమందైనను వారు ఒకరినొకరు ఎడబాసినవారు కారువారు పక్షిరాజులకంటె వడిగలవారుసింహములకంటె బలముగలవారు.

23. Saul and Jonathan, beloved and handsome, were divided neither in life, nor in death. Swifter than eagles were they, stronger than lions.

24. ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల కుమార్తెలారా, సౌలునుగూర్చి యేడ్వుడి అతడు మీకు ఇంపైన రక్తవర్ణపు వస్త్రములు ధరింప జేసినవాడుబంగారు నగలు మీకు పెట్టినవాడు.

24. O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul who gave you scarlet and fine linen to wear, who pinned golden jewellery on your dresses!

25. యుద్ధరంగమునందు బలాఢ్యులు పడియున్నారునీ ఉన్నతస్థలములలో యోనాతాను హతమాయెను.

25. How did the heroes fall in the thick of the battle? Jonathan, by your dying I too am stricken,

26. నా సహోదరుడా, యోనాతానానీవు నాకు అతిమనోహరుడవై యుంటివినీ నిమిత్తము నేను బహు శోకము నొందుచున్నానునాయందు నీకున్న ప్రేమ బహు వింతైనదిస్త్రీలు చూపు ప్రేమకంటెను అది అధికమైనది.

26. I am desolate for you, Jonathan my brother. Very dear you were to me, your love more wonderful to me than the love of a woman.

27. అయ్యయ్యో బలాఢ్యులు పడిపోయిరియుద్ధసన్నద్ధులు నశించిపోయిరి.

27. How did the heroes fall and the weapons of war succumb!
