1. One day Dinah, the daughter Leah had given Jacob, went to visit some of the women in that country.

2. ఆ దేశము నేలిన హివ్వీయుడైన హమోరు కుమారుడగు షెకెము ఆమెను చూచి ఆమెను పట్టుకొని ఆమెతో శయనించి ఆమెను అవమానపరచెను.

2. Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite who was chieftain there, saw her and raped her.

3. Then he felt a strong attraction to Dinah, Jacob's daughter, fell in love with her and wooed her.

4. Shechem went to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl for my wife.'

5. Jacob heard that Shechem had raped his daughter Dinah, but his sons were out in the fields with the livestock so he didn't say anything until they got home.

6. Hamor, Shechem's father, went to Jacob to work out marriage arrangements.

7. Meanwhile Jacob's sons on their way back from the fields heard what had happened. They were outraged, explosive with anger. Shechem's rape of Jacob's daughter was intolerable in Israel and not to be put up with.

8. అప్పుడు హమోరు వారితో షెకెము అను నా కుమారుని మనస్సు మీ కుమార్తె మీదనే ఉన్నది; దయచేసి ఆమెను అతని కిచ్చి పెండ్లిచేయుడి.

8. Hamor spoke with Jacob and his sons, 'My son Shechem is head over heels in love with your daughter--give her to him as his wife.

9. మీ పిల్లలను మాకిచ్చి మా పిల్లలను మీరు పుచ్చుకొని మాతో వియ్యమంది మా మధ్య నివసించుడి.

9. Intermarry with us. Give your daughters to us and we'll give our daughters to you.

10. ఈ దేశము మీ యెదుట ఉన్నది; ఇందులో మీరు నివసించి వ్యాపారముచేసి ఆస్తి సంపాదించుకొనుడని చెప్పెను.

10. Live together with us as one family. Settle down among us and make yourselves at home. Prosper among us.'

11. Shechem then spoke for himself, addressing Dinah's father and brothers: 'Please, say yes. I'll pay anything.

13. Jacob's sons answered Shechem and his father with cunning. Their sister, after all, had been raped.

14. మేము ఈ కార్యము చేయలేము, సున్నతి చేయించు కొననివానికి మా సహోదరిని ఇయ్యలేము, అది మాకు అవమానమగును.

14. They said, 'This is impossible. We could never give our sister to a man who was uncircumcised. Why, we'd be disgraced.

15. మీలో ప్రతి పురుషుడు సున్నతి పొంది మా వలె నుండిన యెడల సరి;

15. The only condition on which we can talk business is if all your men become circumcised like us.

16. ఆ పక్షమందు మీ మాట కొప్పుకొని, మా పిల్లలను మీకిచ్చి మీ పిల్లలను మేము పుచ్చుకొని, మీ మధ్య నివసించెదము, అప్పుడు మనము ఏకజనమగుదుము.

16. Then we will freely exchange daughters in marriage and make ourselves at home among you and become one big, happy family.

17. మీరు మా మాట విని సున్నతి పొందని యెడల మా పిల్లను తీసికొని పోవుదుమని చెప్పగా

17. But if this is not an acceptable condition, we will take our sister and leave.'

18. వారి మాటలు హమోరుకును హమోరు కుమారుడైన షెకెముకును ఇష్టముగా నుండెను.

18. That seemed fair enough to Hamor and his son Shechem.

19. ఆ చిన్నవాడు యాకోబు కుమార్తెయందు ప్రీతిగలవాడు గనుక అతడు ఆ కార్యము చేయుటకు తడవుచేయలేదు. అతడు తన తండ్రి యింటి వారందరిలో ఘనుడు

19. The young man was so smitten with Jacob's daughter that he proceeded to do what had been asked. He was also the most admired son in his father's family.

20. హమోరును అతని కుమారుడైన షెకెమును తమ ఊరిగవిని యొద్దకు వచ్చి తమ ఊరి జనులతో మాటలాడుచు

20. So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the public square and spoke to the town council:

21. ఈ మనుష్యులు మనతో సమాధానముగా నున్నారు గనుక వారిని ఈ దేశమందు ఉండనిచ్చి యిందులో వ్యాపారము చేయనియ్యుడి; ఈ భూమి వారికిని చాలినంత విశాలమైయున్నదిగదా, మనము వారి పిల్లలను పెండ్లి చేసికొని మన పిల్లలను వారికి ఇత్తము.

21. 'These men like us; they are our friends. Let them settle down here and make themselves at home; there's plenty of room in the country for them. And, just think, we can even exchange our daughters in marriage.

22. అయితే ఒకటి, ఆ మనుష్యులు సున్నతి పొందునట్లు మనలో ప్రతి పురుషుడు సున్నతి పొందినయెడలనే మన మాటకు వారు ఒప్పుకొని మనలో నివసించి యేక జనముగా నుందురు.

22. But these men will only accept our invitation to live with us and become one big family on one condition, that all our males become circumcised just as they themselves are.

23. వారి మందలు వారి ఆస్తి వారి పశువులన్నియు మనవగునుగదా; ఎట్లయినను మనము వారి మాటకు ఒప్పుకొందము, అప్పుడు వారు మనలో నివసించెదరనగా

23. This is a very good deal for us--these people are very wealthy with great herds of livestock and we're going to get our hands on it. So let's do what they ask and have them settle down with us.'

24. హమోరును అతని కుమారుడగు షెకెమును చెప్పిన మాట అతని ఊరి గవిని ద్వారా వెళ్లువారందరు వినిరి. అప్పుడతని ఊరి గవిని ద్వారా వెళ్లు వారిలో ప్రతి పురుషుడు సున్నతి పొందెను.

24. Everyone who was anyone in the city agreed with Hamor and his son, Shechem; every male was circumcised.

25. మూడవ దినమున వారు బాధపడుచుండగా యాకోబు కుమారులలో నిద్దరు, అనగా దీనా సహోదరులైన షిమ్యోనును లేవియు, తమ కత్తులు చేతపట్టుకొని యెవరికి తెలియకుండ ఆ ఊరిమీద పడి ప్రతి పురుషుని చంపిరి.

25. Three days after the circumcision, while all the men were still very sore, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each with his sword in hand, walked into the city as if they owned the place and murdered every man there.

26. వారు హమోరును అతని కుమారుడైన షెకెమును కత్తివాత చంపి షెకెము ఇంటనుండి దీనాను తీసికొని వెళ్లిపోయిరి

26. They also killed Hamor and his son Shechem, rescued Dinah from Shechem's house, and left.

27. తమ సహోదరిని చెరిపినందున యాకోబు కుమారులు చంపబడినవారు ఉన్నచోటికి వచ్చి ఆ ఊరు దోచుకొని

27. When the rest of Jacob's sons came on the scene of slaughter, they looted the entire city in retaliation for Dinah's rape.

28. వారి గొఱ్ఱెలను పశువులను గాడిదలను ఊరిలోని దేమి పొలములోని దేమి

28. Flocks, herds, donkeys, belongings--everything, whether in the city or the fields--they took.

29. వారి ధనము యావత్తును తీసికొని, వారి పిల్లలనందరిని వారి స్త్రీలను చెరపట్టి, యిండ్లలోనున్న దంతయు దోచుకొనిరి.

29. And then they took all the wives and children captive and ransacked their homes for anything valuable.

30. అప్పుడు యాకోబు షిమ్యోనును లేవీని చూచి మీరు నన్ను బాధపెట్టి యీ దేశ నివాసులైన కనానీయులలోను పెరిజ్జీయులలోను అసహ్యునిగా చేసితిరి; నా జనసంఖ్య కొంచెమే; వారు నామీదికి గుంపుగా వచ్చి నన్ను చంపెదరు ;నేనును నాయింటివారును నాశనమగుదుమని చెప్పెను

30. Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You've made my name stink to high heaven among the people here, these Canaanites and Perizzites. If they decided to gang up on us and attack, as few as we are we wouldn't stand a chance; they'd wipe me and my people right off the map.'

31. అందుకు వారు - వేశ్యయెడల జరిగించినట్లు మా సహోదరియెడల ప్రవర్తింపవచ్చునా అనిరి.

31. They said, 'Nobody is going to treat our sister like a whore and get by with it.'
