1. శారా జీవించిన కాలము, అనగా శారా బ్రదికిన యేండ్లు నూట ఇరువది యేడు.

1. Now the years of Sarah's life were a hundred and twenty-seven.

2. శారా కనాను దేశమందలి హెబ్రోనను కిర్యతర్బాలో మృతిబొందెను; అప్పుడు అబ్రాహాము శారా నిమిత్తము అంగలార్చుటకును ఆమెను గూర్చి యేడ్చుటకును వచ్చెను.

2. And Sarah's death took place in Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron, in the land of Canaan: and Abraham went into his house, weeping and sorrowing for Sarah.

3. తరువాత అబ్రాహాము మృతిబొందిన తన భార్య యెదుట నుండి లేచి హేతు కుమారులను చూచి

3. And Abraham came from his dead and said to the children of Heth,

4. మీ మధ్య నేను పరదేశినిగాను పరవాసినిగాను ఉన్నాను. మృతిబొందిన నా భార్య నా కన్నుల యెదుట ఉండకుండ, ఆమెను పాతి పెట్టుటకు మీ తావున నాకొక శ్మశానభూమిని స్వాస్థ్యముగా ఇయ్యుడని అడుగగా

4. I am living among you as one from a strange country: give me some land here as my property, so that I may put my dead to rest.

5. హేతు కుమారులు అయ్యా మా మాట వినుము. నీవు మా మధ్యను మహారాజవై యున్నావు;

5. And in answer the children of Heth said to Abraham,

6. మా శ్మశాన భూములలో అతి శ్రేష్టమైన దానియందు మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతిపెట్టుము; నీవు మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతి పెట్టునట్లు మాలో తన శ్మశానభూమి ఇయ్యనొల్లనివాడు ఎవడును లేడని అబ్రాహాము కుత్తరమిచ్చిరి.

6. My lord, truly you are a great chief among us; take the best of our resting-places for your dead; not one of us will keep back from you a place where you may put your dead to rest.

7. అప్పుడు అబ్రాహాము లేచి ఆ దేశపు ప్రజలైన హేతు కుమారులకు సాగిలపడి

7. And Abraham got up and gave honour to the children of Heth, the people of that land.

8. మృతిబొందిన నా భార్యను నా యెదుట ఉండకుండ నేను పాతి పెట్టుట మీకిష్టమైతే నా మాట వినుడి.

8. And he said to them, If you will let me put my dead to rest here, make a request for me to Ephron, the son of Zohar,

9. సోహరు కుమారుడైన ఎఫ్రోను తన పొలము చివరను తనకు కలిగియున్న మక్పేలా గుహను నాకిచ్చునట్లు నా పక్షముగా అతనితో మనవిచేయుడి. మీ మధ్యను శ్మశాన భూమిగా నుండుటకు నిండు వెలకు అతడు దానిని నాకు స్వాస్థ్యముగా ఇయ్యవలెనని వారితో చెప్పెను.

9. That he will give me the hollow in the rock named Machpelah, which is his property at the end of his field; let him give it to me for its full price as a resting-place for my dead among you.

10. అప్పుడు ఎఫ్రోను హేతు కుమారులమధ్యను కూర్చుండి యుండెను. హిత్తీయుడైన ఎఫ్రోను తన ఊరి గవిని ప్రవేశించువారందరి యెదుట హేతు కుమారులకు వినబడునట్లు అబ్రాహాముతో చెప్పిన ప్రత్యుత్తరమేమనగా

10. Now Ephron was seated among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite gave Abraham his answer in the hearing of the children of Heth, and of all those who came into his town, saying,

11. అయ్యా అట్లు కాదు నా మనవి నాలకించుము, ఆ పొలమును నీకిచ్చుచున్నాను; దానిలో నున్న గుహను నీకిచ్చుచున్నాను; నా ప్రజల యెదుట అది నీకిచ్చుచున్నాను; మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతి పెట్టుమనెను

11. No, my lord, I will give you the field with the hollow in the rock; before all the children of my people will I give it to you for a resting-place for your dead.

12. అప్పుడు అబ్రాహాము ఆ దేశపు ప్రజల యెదుట సాగిలపడి

12. And Abraham went down on his face before the people of the land.

13. సరేకాని నా మనవి ఆలకించుము. ఆ పొలమునకు వెల యిచ్చెదను; అది నాయొద్ద పుచ్చుకొనిన యెడల మృతిబొందిన నా భార్యను పాతి పెట్టెదనని ఆ దేశ ప్రజలకు వినబడు నట్లు ఎఫ్రోనుతో చెప్పెను.

13. And Abraham said to Ephron, in the hearing of the people of the land, If only you will give ear to me, I will give you the price of the field; take it, and let me put my dead to rest there.

14. అందుకు ఎఫ్రోను అయ్యా నా మాట వినుము; ఆ భూమి నాలుగు వందల తులముల వెండి చేయును;

14. So Ephron said to Abraham,

15. నాకు నీకు అది యెంత? మృతిబొందిన నీ భార్యను పాతిపెట్టుమని అబ్రాహామున కుత్తరమిచ్చెను;

15. My lord, give ear to me: the value of the land is four hundred shekels; what is that between me and you? so put your dead to rest there.

16. అబ్రాహాము ఎఫ్రోను మాట వినెను. కాబట్టి హేతు కుమారులకు వినబడునట్లు ఎఫ్రోను చెప్పిన వెల అనగా వర్తకులలో చెల్లు నాలుగు వందల తులముల వెండి అబ్రాహాము తూచి అతని కిచ్చెను.

16. And Abraham took note of the price fixed by Ephron in the hearing of the children of Heth, and gave him four hundred shekels in current money.

17. ఆలాగున మమ్రే యెదుటనున్న మక్పేలా యందలి ఎఫ్రోను పొలము, అనగా ఆ పొలమును దానియందలి గుహయు దాని పొలిమేర అంతటి లోనున్న ఆ పొలము చెట్లన్నియు,

17. So Ephron's field at Machpelah near Mamre, with the hollow in the rock and all the trees in the field and round it,

18. అతని ఊరి గవిని ప్రవేశించు వారందరిలో హేతు కుమారుల యెదుట అబ్రాహామునకు స్వాస్థ్యముగా స్థిరపరచబడెను.

18. Became the property of Abraham before the eyes of the children of Heth and of all who came into the town.

19. ఆ తరువాత అబ్రాహాము కనాను దేశములో హెబ్రోనను మమ్రే యెదుట నున్న మక్పేలా పొలము గుహలో తన భార్యయైన శారాను పాతిపెట్టెను.

19. Then Abraham put Sarah his wife to rest in the hollow rock in the field of Machpelah near Mamre, that is, Hebron in the land of Canaan.

20. ఆ పొలమును దానిలోనున్న గుహయు హేతు కుమారుల వలన శ్మశానము కొరకు అబ్రాహామునకు స్వాస్థ్యముగా స్థిరపరచబడెను.

20. And the field and the hollow rock were handed over to Abraham as his property by the children of Heth.
